Anyone going through Kaiser permanente?
62race replied to Mel13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@ilikecake2much I had to lose about 12 pounds, after 7 of those 12 I made appt with psych, you HAVE to be at your surgery weight on day of surgery or they claim they will cancel. I met with surgeon in mid November. I also met with Nutritionist that day too. I followed their recommended 1200 calorie diet to a T and it worked for me rather quickly. I met with psych before Christmas and then had to wait through the holidays for surgery date. They called me beginning of January and I got my date for Feb 17. I am not patient either. Waiting through two weeks of holidays was rough. I think they get their surgery schedule at the beginning of each month for the following month. I also asked to be on a wait list for cancellations. I was supposed to be at 218 for my surgery date and was 211. I was very determined to get this surgery as soon as possible. Kaiser Fremont was great. I always felt very welcomed and comfortable there. I had Dr. Hahn but have hears great things about each surgeon. I also got on my vitamin regime before surgery. I also go to a wls group meeting monthly in Campbell. I even went less than a week after surgery. Everything going well. I'm happy to communicate anything with you! I have a pal I met on here that went through surgery about a month ahead of me and it was so nice to talk with someone at the same program. Since so many are different. I would have replied earlier but you response went to my spam folder. Good luck! -

Hello ilikecake2much! Yes, I've had my surgery on February 17! Seven weeks post op today and everything is well! I've lost 44lbs since my journey began in November. About 20 since surgery. Slow but steady. Who is your surgeon? I'd be happy to share all I know! Kaiser Fremont is a great program and I'm so glad I did it! -

62race replied to 2/2015RN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! Everything went well! I'm one week post op today and down 28.5 pounds since November. Probably about 5 since surgery. Everything gets better every day. I wake up a little stronger, less pained and more encouraged. I worked from home yesterday and plan in going in today. Have to drive to Santa Cruz from San Jose so a little concerned but its reverse commute and I will just take my time! No pain meds since Saturday so I am good to go. I can start some yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce today so I'm happy about that. No problem keeping things down I just have to remind myself constantly. How are you doing? -
Came home last night. All is well. Main pain is getting up and down. Tired too. But drinking and sipping going ok. Heating pad on sore back is helping a lot. I had my sleeve at Kaiser in Fremont, CA. Dr. Hahn. Great experience. Can't believe its done! Started planning in October and here I am post op!

I'm ready! Excited and prepared. Have lots of support. Let's do this!

Sleeve surgery date February 27, 2015
62race replied to 2/2015RN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes! Let's keep in touch. I'm only 5'1" and currently weigh 220. I was up to 236 in October. I feel better even losing this much. I would love to be at 125 so about 100 lbs? But not sure how realistic though. I'm 43 and love to walk and hike. Every pound lost makes that easier so I'm highly motivated to make this work. Yes, I am in San Jose, California. -

I got my date set for February 17,2015. I'm so excited. I started looking into surgery in October 2014 through Kaiser Fremont. Went to two seminars then met with surgeon and nutritionist and after I lost a few pounds I met with psych. Had to wait through holidays to get my surgery date but it finally came on Thursday! The timing has been perfect and I've lost 17 lbs since I started. But things are slowing down as they always do. I would be giving up by now normally but I need to lose two more pounds before surgery so I'm inspired to keep on trucking! Good luck to you! -

So happy for you! I'm hoping to get scheduled in February with Dr. Hahn. Thanks for the update! It is very helpful to me. Keep them coming! -
I went to my first at kaiser Campbell. You don't have to be a kaiser member to go. It was small but maybe because it was right before Christmas. Very nice helpful people in various stages of post op. I plan on going to the next one on January 28th at 6pm.

I am in San Jose too!

Annie, your surgery is coming up soon, right? Looking forward to hearing about your experience with Kaiser and Dr. Hahn. If you are willing to share, of course. Good luck!

I've been lurking and occasionally posting but I've learned so much in the last couple of months from everyone here. So, thank you for that. I've been moving swiftly along through the Kaiser Fremont program. I had my first meeting on November 11th, then a more formal meeting with my doctors referral on the 25th of November. Decided to move forward and had my first one on one with surgeon and NUT on December 4th. Lost five more pounds (13 since my dreadful PCP appt in October which got the ball rolling on thinking about WLS), had my psych visit and EKG today and now on wait list for surgery! Fremont Kaiser has been great. Can't say enough good things about everyone I've dealt with. The ball is in their court and I need to be at 218 by surgery. Just another five pounds. With their guidance and support I know I can do it! The surgeon needs to review my file and he says he will do it soon! I hope that's sooner rather than later because I am ready to start this new chapter!

Can I ask you how long it took you to get surgery scheduled once you were done with requirements?
-
Kaiser sent me a follow up email yesterday, a week after my consultation, it seemed like a form letter but was from the surgeon. I replied back with some questions and my progress. I'm at five pounds before goal weight so he replied right away to send in my multiple choice test and call for the psych appointment! I called and they had an appointment today but unfortunately I couldn't make it. So I have my psych appt on Tuesday the 16th. I'm hoping to speak with coordinator again to see about scheduling ASAP so I fall under my husband's current insurance which expires January 31st. Fingers crossed! Things going smoothly still!

I'm looking forward to being cold and being able to wear cute clothes to keep me warm!

Dr. Hahn is great. Just had a great visit with him and meet with coordinator next. I need to lose about ten lbs before surgery but he said I was right on track! Everything going well!
-
Just started my three hour consultation at Kaiser Fremont. I just met with nutritionist who said she rarely gives people fives on their assessment but I got all fives! I've lost eight pounds since end of October and next I meet with Dr. Hahn. For the past few weeks I've followed Kaiser's 1200 calorie plan and nutritionist was so happy! She says so far I'm a great candidate. So far every single person I've encountered with Fremont Bariatrics has been so nice and helpful. I will keep you updated after I meet with surgeon and coordinator.

Went to my second group meeting today with Dr. Dutta and a nutritionist. It was more detailed than first meeting and lasted about two hours. I didn't learn much more than I've learned from reading online but it was still very exciting. My husband came too and was very supportive. They weighed us in the beginning and I've already lost five lbs from my highest weight a few weeks ago. As soon as meeting was over they said we could book our next private appointment with a surgeon, nutritionist and coordinator. I was able to book with Dr. Hahn for December 4th. Its a three hour appt. Things are moving quickly and nicely. Dr. Dutta said after losing 10% of current weight they will schedule surgery. This was a general comment to group and not specific to me. He said if you had already lost 10% of your highest weight in last year then they could book as early as January! Now I'm reading my binder and filling out questionnaires. Also, copayment is due at this next one on one appointment. Hope that helps some of questions about Fremont Kaiser. So far so good and they seem very organized and on top of things!

I'm going to my second WLS seminar tomorrow at Fremont Kaiser. I had to go to a intro meeting at Santa Clara Kaiser first and then my PCP referred me to Fremont. They called within a couple if days and I got into this meeting. I heard this meeting is with surgeons and nutritionist but as a group. I can let you know what I find out tomorrow. I am in a similar boat except my husband may be losing Kaiser insurance at end if year unless new job offers it. Kaiser has been good to me so I'm hoping we can keep it somehow, especially for the bariatric program. Good luck to you!
