    Hello, any veterens around?

I will be at 8 years in November. I never made it to goal but that was ok. Had over a 100lb loss. It started to creep slowly back on- about 10 pounds a year or so. I started to watch more last year and am back to the lowest post-surgical weight so I am very happy with that. I may try for another 25 pounds or so. I haven't decided yet :).
  2. At Costco they have Orgain Clean protein shakes which are lovely. There is both a animal and plant-based version. As far as length of time to do a reset, there are multiple schools of thought out there, however, I would recommend doing what seems right to you. I would start off with a limited diets of protein shakes and green non-starchy vegetables. As you stabilize slowly add in fruit and regular meals. If it continues to be an issue going to a medical weight loss clinic might help too. Good Luck!

    Regain advice

What has really helped me was going back to protein shakes. For me it is like a whole system reset. The cravings go away and I can deal a bit better. A call to the doctor is also a good idea. It you are having cravings perhaps one of the newer meds might help. Regain is touch but not insumountable!
  4. Gastric sleeve patients don't usually get dumping syndrome, though it is not impossible. I am 7 years out and have never had dumping.

Odd words of wisdom from Mom.

There is a great variability among folks. For me, more than 2 years out, I have never thrown up from eating past where I should. It's a good and bad thing. When I get tempted for another bite, it's hard to say no!

    Revision surgery

Having surgery to remove the band will take you off regular eating for a least a few days! Lol. Seriously though, I would suggest having dietitian visits lined up and a plan set up before the band is removed to help avoid this. I think your being aware of this issue will help you avoid it. Best of luck!

    So many questions.

My husband and I go out 1-2 times a week and I love it! I have part of my salad, vegetable, and sirloin steak. The rest gets wrapped up and I get another meal out of it. Yippee!

    PLEASE HELP ME!!

It's awful when you're not feeling well and the hospital doesn't seem to care. In reading your posts, it looks like the first hospital did not have their act together at all. The Cleveland Clinic, however, responded timely, did appropriate tests and treatments, and were quite reasonable. It sounds like you should go back for medical care. I am also an RN and agree with the others that this can be serious and that conservative measures are tried first (that's a good thing).
  9. When I read your post- my first thought was, "I wish I had that problem!" Lol. I think that people tend to share more and ask questions that they wouldn't ask in other situations. I know during one support group session I was chatting with a woman who I thought had met her goal and she was one week post-op! I was so shocked, I blurted that out. Fortunately, she was flattered that I thought she was at goal and we had a great conversation about what the surgery meant to her and why she had pursued it at a lower BMI. You are fortunate to go into surgery with less weight to lose than most people here. Keep your chin up and enjoy the ride!

    Sleeve or bypasd

As with many others I chose the sleeve because I wanted to avoid intestinal rerouting. Considering your lack of comorbidities and wanting to get pregnant I would highly recommend it. In my opinion, having a surgery that will cause malabsorption followed by a pregnancy would be an added strain on the body. Good Luck in whatever surgery you choose.

    Nuclear stress test

That doesn't sound right. These are not tests that are commonly repeated (unless there is a strong medical reason to) or even required by some bariatric programs. To be on the safe side, go ahead and call your insurance company, however, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

    Eating too much...

Good topic. I thought I was the only one! I enjoy the days where I can hardly eat. Not so fond of the days where I can tolerate more... I have found that there are certain foods that fill me up quickly- one is greek yogurt and the other is steamed shrimp. On those days when I am feeling "hungry" I try to snack on those.

    Protein Shakes

Where do you get the Core brand? Never heard of it. I usually make my own with 8 oz. Fairlife milk and Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt (5oz tub) any flavor. For about 200 calories it replaces and meal and gives 20 gms of protein. If I have some fresh berries in the house I will throw them in too. I don't have a lot of Protein shakes now that I am a little further out, however, I do enjoy them for Breakfast and this one is quick and tastes good.

    Food funerals

I didn't have "food funerals" but I did eat things I enjoyed within reason before surgery. After all the pre-op work there was no way in the world that I wanted to gain weight. I remember feeling a real sense of accomplishment that I could eat modest amounts and have my weight stay stable.
  16. What a great day. I have lost 100 lbs and arrived at Onederland on the same day!

    Surgery in the Afternoon

I was the last case of the day- into surgery at around 3:30 PM. Got to my room around 6PM. Actually worked great. I had the night to rest as much as I could- did get up every 4 hours to walk. In the morning I was up walking at least hourly and slowly sipping fluids. I would also check with my surgeon's office about the "nothing by mouth" after midnight. Since my surgery was not until 3:30, I was able to have a Protein shake and other liquids before 6AM. By the time I got to the hospital I was just starting to feel a little thirsty. It was not bad at all.

I have one that mentions small portions. I've used it a few times.

    Sick before surgery

Depending on what it is, surgeons will cancel surgery if you are ill. I had a sore throat and cold symptoms the week before surgery-- I drank as much herbal tea for colds as I could hold and bought zicam which i took according to the directions and was good to go on surgery day. Good luck to you.
  21. Dare I say it, I eat ice cream! Why? Because I plan it out and it is not a trigger food for me. The one thing I have learned is that when it comes to weight loss surgery there are very few hard and fast rules. Thank you @@readyforthislifechange for sharing something you found helpful. I am sure that everyone who read the ingredients and the numbers can figure out if this is something that would work for them or perhaps modify, like halving the amount of ice cream and using fat free Fairlife, for example. Thank you to all of those who displayed appropriate behavior. And to @@readyforthislifechange, please don't stop sharing. There are plenty of people who have manners that would like to read what you have to say.

    Pre-Op Diet Experiences

@@Radar If you are down 13 pounds, then you are obviously sticking to something! I would suggest adding greek yogurt- that is a great snack and quite filling. Also, a hard boiled egg has saved me on more than one occasion. So that was actually a good choice in a bad situation. Maybe you should bring some extra and store them at work. I would also suggest you try and stay away from restaurants now that your surgery is close. Concentrate on eating well. Good Luck to you!
  24. Actually, I like the idea that someone can google a topic and find a post about it. Maybe something I have experienced can help someone else. Honestly, I can't imagine that bariatric surgery is in the top ten things that crazies search under, however, I could be wrong! That being said, I am not worried as I am sure I am not the only mother with a son named Samuel in this entire country.
