  1. I felt back to normal once I was on regular food. This seems to be very variable though You can and should start walking immediately. I walked miles in the hospital (literally). Once I got home, my husband drove me to the mall everyday and we walked. For more intense workouts, you have to wait to get cleared by your surgeon and you have to see what your energy level is as you will be getting in a small amount of calories. I was cleared at 2 weeks, however, I have seen posts from others on this forum who have had to wait 4-6 weeks. The incisions are pretty tiny- mine are fading nicely. So no, it doesn't look like you have been "sliced" I have not had that said to me but I have thought about what I would say if it did. I think I would say something like "What an interesting theory, what evidence have you gathered to support your hypothesis?" Good Luck to you!
  2. No problem at all! My first outing after surgery on November 19th was a work holiday party about 3 weeks later. I slowly enjoyed a bowl of Maryland Crab soup. It took me about 1/2 hour to get it all in and guess what? No one noticed!
  3. You might find unjury chicken broth works. Tastes good and has plenty of Protein. Good Luck. Will you be starting purees soon? That might make things easier. What about greek yogurt? That saved me in the early stages!
  4. I feel so badly that you have had such a terrible time. I too would be interested to know if there is a "common denominator." Like BLERDgirl, my surgery and recovery has been easy and I am also not a "Spring Chick"... I don't really have any words of wisdom. I do think you are on the right track and with good medical care you can get past this. Hope all works out. We are all pulling for you!

    Sizes and more sizes!

My 2 favorites are Boscov's (East Coast) and CJ Banks. Both have nicer clothes, however, their sales are excellent. At Boscov's I just spent $55 on 2 pairs of pants, 1 pr jeans, 3 shirts, and a sweater! They were on clearance and most were $6.99! CJ Banks also has some good sales. I am recommending these more for work type of wear. For everyday, KMart works!

    Venting About Poor Forum Etiquette

No, I have not read through the entire post but I feel your pain... You're and Your Their, there, and they're I cry at the misuse of these innocent words....
  9. At 4 1/2 months I have passed the 50% mark towards my goal. One thing, though, is that weight loss can and DOES slow down. I am hoping to reach goal weight by my son's wedding in August, 2016! I would encourage everyone not to be discouraged when the stalls occur and to keep working towards good health!

    Stress test :(

Not necessarily. Did they tell you anything about your heart rhythm? The whole purpose of the test is to see how the heart responds to work and if there are signs of a lack of oxygen to the heart. While doing exercise the BP can go up. Mine went up to 160/100 and then after the test went back down to normal. Either way it will be a good thing to find out if there were changes on the cardiogram or not. If so, it doesn't mean you can't ever have surgery. It might mean you need further follow-up or treatment before surgery can be scheduled. Good Luck and keep us posted!

    Hospital or Surgical Center

Good luck on your surgery. I think going to the hospital is the best choice also. For me, I like the idea that if there is a problem, staff is right there to deal with it. Much safer option, in my opinion.

    Surgery was a success!

Glad to hear everything went well. Keep up the good work! Walk every hour if you can, your body will thank you!

    Pain when drinking

It's completely normal at this stage. You have probably heard this but these do work: SLOWLY sip all beverages. The swelling will subside and it will get easier. WALK to get rid of the gas. It works better than anything else. Some people also swear by Gas-X. Good Luck!

    It's no April Fool's Joke.

I understand completely! I was not excited like many on here about getting this surgery but I knew that I needed it to improve my health. Good Luck to you! I am 4 months out and so far, very happy with this decision.

    Pre-op Binge eating

My surgeon only had one requirement and that was that you couldn't be heavier on the day of surgery than you were when you started the program. Their focus was also on learning strategies for eating well not on the scale. So during the 3 month pre-op I was careful about what I ate, and once a week I had whatever i wanted but not to excess. I think there are a few important points which following the guidance did for me 1) following a plan 6 days, having an off day, and then going back on helped me to realize that I was capable of making changes 2) Even on my "off" day I followed the strategies I had been taught: chewing slowly, stopping when full, and drinking plenty of Water 3) I lost 27 pounds by the day of surgery which made for 27 less pounds I had to lose after surgery! 4) I have literally been overweight all of my life. My earliest memories are around 3 or 4 years old and I was overweight then. By the time it came to making a decision about surgery you can believe that I didn't feel there was much hope for me. Being successful during the pre-op period helped me start to realize that I too could be successful. My suggestions regarding food funerals: DO enjoy 1 or 2 slices of pizza or a nice dinner out before the pre-op liquids start. DON'T eat massive quantities and sabotage yourself. Good Luck on your journey.
  17. Hi there, I am 4 months out also. For me the hardest thing is getting all the Water in. It is a real struggle. For breakfast I usually have an egg or a Protein shake if I am in a hurry. Mid morning I have the Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt. Lunch is usually cheese, afternoon snack is a Protein Bar or nuts, and dinner is a protein and vegetable. I am doing really well and although the weight loss has slowed, it is still trending down. All the post-op labs were fine so no worries there. What has helped me the most I think is developing an exercise routine. I go to the gym twice a week and can feel the difference it makes. Water ranges from 30-70 oz Protein about 60-80 Gm I don't count carbs or fat though I am guessing calories are about 900 Vitamins- 1 children's chewable and 1 calcium chew

"picky eaters" - my pet peeve

I thought that was hilarious! Truth be told, I am also not on a diet and I eat pizza at least once every 2-4 weeks. And, I thoroughly enjoy my little slice!

    Meat 7 days out?

@@carolinacrumb88 I am glad you are going to call your nutritionist. Even if she says no, this is an opportunity for you to talk about what's going on with someone who can give good guidance.

    Meat 7 days out?

I laughed out loud when I read that. Of course I could have gotten a PhD in KNOWING about healthy eating. My problem was in actually DOING healthy eating!

Hang in there and keep walking! Hope your recovery is speedy!

    Meat 7 days out?

I would recommend you ask your nutritionist. Thanksgiving was 8 days after my surgery and the nutritionist said it was fine to puree a small amount which I did and think I may have actually eaten a few teaspoons of it!

    So disappointed

@@kndoster Kindle is right. Stay off the scale! I would also recommend keeping the carbs low. The most current research does not support a very low fat diet. That doesn't mean go crazy, but honestly at 600 or so calories per day, just how much fat can you have? Perhaps a talk with the dietitian might be a good idea to help figure out the best food choices. Dietitians are usually (not always) pretty sharp and can really help. I would suggest celebrating your victories and hard work towards becoming a healthier you! Good luck and keep up the great work!

You know you lost weight when

It happened to me this week. All of my size 26W-28W, 3X clothes were so loose I could no longer where them in public so I went out and couldn't believe it when everything I bought was 16W-18W and 1X! I am still looking at the tags thinking these can't possibly fit, but they do!
