So tell me how you REALLY feel...

I love my body and don't want to change anything... Sags and all! And my husband seems content too. Lol!
  2. Maybe it was just too heavy for you... Nothing stupid about it-- just information for you that your sleeve is clearly not a pizza fan!

    Pain with eating

Considering you are 3 months out and this is a new development not related to diet or other physical changes that you can identify, I think you need to consult with your physician. I would call the office. Good Luck!
  4. @ snowkitten Thanks for starting this thread- this has been a tough week for me and I am so encouraged by all the responses I have read. I was working at a conference and was given a complimentary hotel room and club lounge access from Sunday to Wednesday. I can honestly say I didn't go crazy but I did eat more than normal and we all know that restaurant food is not known for it's healthy properties! The scale has stayed the same but I feel the drain. Also, I went to the gym this morning and felt the pain (literally)! So, thanks again, everyone!
  5. @@Inner Surfer Girl I agree with the seriousness of getting proper nutrition, especially Protein, post-op. However, I heartily disagree with the "only barrier is mental in almost all cases," I don't know if the surgeon is just exaggerating to make his point or what actual data he is using. My concern is that there are people who will make themselves ill trying to follow that advice and tell themselves that it's a mental problem when it is not. I have been lucky- no complications and a smooth recovery. It took me about a week before I could get in 60 gm of protein and that was fine. Each person heals at a different rate. What worked for me was keeping a log. I used a medicine cup and tracked each ounce of Fluid and protein- with the goal of 4 ounces per hour, initially. I increased gradually and stopped the medicine cups when I could drink more and "graduated" to my son's old peter rabbit cup Good Luck!
  6. I am not familiar with the surgeons in your area so sorry I can't be of help there. Transferring the test results should be no problem. I would suggest you talk to the manager of the center about your concerns. Good luck!

    Job interfering with surgery...

You don't mention if the training is one of those classroom based trainings which are only offered as certain times or not. My opinion? If the training is specialized and will not recur soon, I would probably have the surgery after the training ends. Good luck in whatever you choose.

    OUT OF CONTROL! HELP

@rdy4chng Good for you taking the initiative to share what you are going through. Let that post be the start of YOU taking back control. I have seen some wonderful tips on this thread. I would also recommend at least a few days of liquid Protein and lots of Water just to clear out the system. Packing Snacks another great idea. Also, if you have hands free telephone the commute can be a time to catch up with family. I talk to my sister in Wisconsin (I'm in PA) on my one hour commute in the afternoon. It makes the trip fly by and can be almost enjoyable. Good Luck and keep at it!

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

I've always wondered, does that prohibition from eating or drinking at the nurses station every actually stopped someone from doing it? I've also wondered why after a night where there were 2 transfers out, 3 transfers in, and a code to boot, the nurse manager could find nothing more important to talk about than someone's beverage on the desk!

    Anyone getting married?

My son is getting married in August of 2016. I am enjoying all the wedding prep. I think it is more fun this time around than when I was the bride. Lol! Many bridal shops have some amazing seamstresses who can do great alterations. I am planning on getting my "mom" dress early next year. Congratulations to those of you getting married!
  11. I had always wondered about the Why Mexico question myself. I knew it was cheaper but never knew just how much! Fortunately I have insurance but my hospital bill was $29,000! and the surgeon's bill was $3,000! This included the surgery and a one night stay. There were no complications (fortunately) so nothing else that would have increased the bill. Also, this does not include any of the outpatient tests or doctor visits. Talk about sticker shock!

200 lbs or more to lose?

@@butterfly23 Good luck on this journey. For me, posting my stats was important. It helped me to keep things real. Yes, I really do weigh this much, and yes, my goal is also posted too. Every time I edit the ticker down a pound or 2 I have such a great feeling of accomplishment. Don't worry about how much you have to lose. None of us are here because of a low BMI!

    Hate eating

This may be related to your anxiety, however, there are some people that lose the sense of hunger and never get it back or get it back at a much later time. My opinion: Make it work for you. View eating like brushing your teeth or showering- something that is done as normal body maintenance. Would you stop brushing your teeth because you don't like the brush? Of course not. Good luck!

    for those already sleeved

@@erose321 Makes perfect sense. I wondered about that too. After all, they are removing a lot of tissue-- won't it feel different? I can't answer for anyone else, but my insides feel the same to me! I would not know I had ever had surgery if not for the small scars and the restriction.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

@@elladvyne OMG!!! I was an ICU nurse for 20 years and would rarely (thank Goodness) get pulled to what we called "intermediate care" which sounds very much like what you described. Worked like a dog every time and never got to go to the bathroom! Are you going on an all liquid pre-op diet? Or is it a combination of liquid and lean Protein? My opinion here- I don't think an all liquid diet is safe considering your work. Perhaps 2 liquid meals followed by a lean protein meal might work. If your plan is for all liquid, please talk to your surgeon/dietitian. Post-op- How long are you taking off from work? Once you get back, keep a Water bottle handy wherever you go. Also- greek yogurt is your friend and easily portable. Good Luck!
  16. @Gladys62- My Samuel is my 22 year old son who is in the Navy. He found it quite amusing when he found out my "screen name" Lol.
  17. So now that I am almost 5 months out, the weight loss has really slowed (though not stopped). I was not sure what to do and thought maybe my metabolism was in the "toilet" and maybe I needed to cut back even more. I went to a center which does the RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) Test. It was very easy- breathing into a tube for about 15 minutes. It turned out that if I sat around all day, I would be burning around 2000 calories! The doctor said that for my gender and age that was great! We then went over my daily calorie intake and what he told me was to add more of the "enemy"--- CARBS!!! He did qualify it to add that he was talking about good carbs like sweet potatoes, Quinoa, and brown rice for one week. He also told me to increase my calories from around 900 to 1500. This was on Monday evening. Starting Tuesday I followed the advice and today the scale moved down for the first time in 2 weeks. I was happy. The human body never ceases to amaze me... Has anyone else had this test done? Has it changed how you ate?

    When will the pain go?

If you are having pain while sipping slowly, I would agree with calling your doctor. If you find yourself gulping at all, slow down, sip gently and see what happens. Hope you feel better soon.

    really struggling

Great thread. I am another one of those who has not mourned food. I think it is because I don't think of it as "dead." When I was researching surgeries, one reason I picked the sleeve was because I did not want to say goodbye to pizza forever. Going on very strict plans was a disaster for me each and every time I went on a program. Do great, plateau, gain it all back plus more. So this time, I decided that I was NOT going on a program. Fortunately my eating habits were already pretty good and portion control was my big issue. At almost 5 months out I can eat ANYTHING. I have found that I enjoy that 1/2 slice of pizza just as much as I did when I was eating 3 or 4 slices. In fact, I enjoy it more because i am eating it slowly and savoring it. The puree phase goes by quickly and as you start eating solids you will find things that you enjoy. You will also be able to choose something that used to put the pounds on because now you will be satisfied with a small amount. Good Luck!

    Memorial Day Challenge!

I'm in! Thanks so much for doing this! My goal weight is 215. This morning I weighed 222. The weight loss has slowed down so I am hoping I make it!
  21. In the very early stages I viewed drinking Water and getting in as much Protein as I could my "job." When I am at work it doesn't really matter whether I want to do something or not-- I do it because it's my job! I found it was easier to do when I viewed like that. Also, keep sipping, that will help. Have you tried greek yogurt? That was a life saver for me- Don't worry about starvation. That is not a problem at this point in time. The most important thing is fluids. Without that people end up in the hospital with dehydration. Protein is next and hopefully your totals will improve. Don't expect to feel hungry for awhile. If you are lucky, maybe for a long while! I was so annoyed when my hunger came roaring back at 4 weeks! Good Luck.
  22. This is very normal for 3 weeks out. Keep getting your fluids and Protein in. It takes some time to get up to 1000 calories!

    november sleevers.

It's great reading so many success stories. Congratulations! My date was November 19th also. I have done well so far- not particularly fast but steady so far. Extremely uneventful surgery and recovery for which I am very grateful!
  24. @Gladys62 This is great news! Not so much that you have a severe inflammation but that this is something very treatable. Hopefully this will start you on the path to wellness. I am very surprised that your physician did not order a PPI for at least a month or so. I thought most docs did. Good thing you are out of that practice. One thing I thought about regarding people's experiences. This reminds me very much of pregnancies. Years ago, when I was having my son, I felt great and never had morning sickness. My sister thought her experience would be the same. She, however, was sick for 6 months straight! It was one of those crazy things and no one can figure out why. I was one of those who had a wonderful, easy experience with this surgery. Why? I have no idea but I am grateful for it. I hope that this experience will turn itself around and your experience will become a great one also.
  25. There are 2 variables here. One is your insurance company and the other is your surgeon's practice. For example, my insurance company did not have a specific weight loss requirement, however, my surgeons' office required that you weight the same or less on the day of surgery than you did when starting the program. I would have never been approved for the surgery if I had gained weight. You will find other people on this forum who gained weight and had no trouble getting approved while some had to lose 10%. This is not something I would wait to find out about. I would talk to the team and find out my insurance requirements. Good Luck.
