I signed up for BariatricPal yesterday but have been reading this forum for almost 1 year prior to my surgery. I had VSG surgery on 02-12-14. I was very nervous about having the surgery becaue as a 51 year woman, the surgery was my first. So it was fear of the unknown and hearing all of the horror surgery stories out there that just built on my existing feart. My starting weight was 393 and I currently weigh 230 lbs. I don't have anything negative to say about my experience. I have been very fortunate and feel blessed to have had such a great journey thus far. I would say perhaps the gas pains after surgery was one of the scariest things for me. Except for 2-3 vomiting episodes in the beginning when transitioning through different eating stages, I have had a smooth eating experience ever since. I now exercise 4 days per week, measure and track my food, take my vitamins and protein shakes as recommended by my medical team and feel an overall improvement to my healt.
I no longer have sleep apnea, and have recently been removed from my blood pressure meds. At this point, I decided to join as I have read some interesting posts and would like to share my experience with those who are on the fence about this surgery or for anyone who is terrified to do it. I also seek support of a community who totally GETS what life is like feeling trapped inside of your body with little hope of ever being able to get out of it and how this surgery has allowed us to get that freedom back. I also seek guidance from those wise veterans out there who have gone through it all should I come across a situation that I have not yet had to face.
