Momma_D replied to nymetzfan11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery sept 23..dr varnell rocked!! Bailey is wonderful and the nurses were great.. just do what they say.. the tests were a pain but unlike other hospitals they make sure that you can handle the surgery... The support groups are really good to get to know people that have gone through the same thing and to get advice from other patients... I attend the one in muskogee in fact I just went to one last night we had quite a good time and I made a lot of new friends... I wish you all luck on your journey I have lost 51 pounds in 8 weeks... -

One pound isn't a gain! That's great!
-
145. No change, which I'll take, because I was up to 152 during the week. Apparently fluids (IV during endoscopy) + TOM + salty foods = 7 pounds in 3 days. >< Ahh yeah i gained 8 pounds overnight after my surgery..

I cannot do sugar free..artificial sweeteners..they make me sick but could before surgery. .so odd...i use reg sugar in small amounts

After surgery i couldn't tolerate artificial sweeteners..actually have to use real sugar which works for me because my diabetes is now gone and blood sugars are to low..the real sugar stabilizes me..

Does anyone else hate the way they feel after they eat
Momma_D posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Does anyone else hate the way they feel after they eat? That over full bloated yucky feeling inside your chest. I hate that we cannot drink while we eat... that has always helped wash down my food before surgery. I get so I don't even want to eat because of the way I feel. How does everyone else feel? I tried to eat slow but with my life everything's so hectic that I don't have time to stop and chew and chew and chew... -
Have my 6 week check in today with my surgeon and I have lost 40 pounds in basically 7 weeks because I was only on a 1 week pre op diet . I was told i am doing very well and I'm doing what I need to do and keep going but he kept saying I need more protein and more protein ...I'm eating as much meat as I did before the surgery and every diet I've ever been on requires 4 to 6 ounces of the protein each day... I'm getting that !! I just don't understand why we have to have so much protein when the normal amount is usually what we are eating...

Are you losing "Friends" now that you are losing weight?
Momma_D replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My best friend of many years is so competitive that she is grinding her teeth that i did the surgery..i was always smaller than her until the last 10 year's..now that I'm losing she's freaked..honestly i have few friends these days..these groups help so much... -
Congratulations!!! 40 pounds is great! I'm less than a week post operative and am having trouble getting all the Protein I should be getting. I'm hoping it's just the swelling. Keep up the good work. Thank you me too on the protein..my doc keeps pushing out but i just can't do it on these soft foods...i hope I'm not bald in a couple of months...

Liana526,,..i agree with everything you said. .going out to eat with my family is a nightmare! I miss just being able to sit and eat normally with them... I hate that I cannot have a normal meal I am still on soft foods and will be until a week from Tuesday when I can actually start eating chicken like a normal person ..I am terrified that I won't like it anymore like I did with eggs... I did not think that it would be like this for me because my daughter had the same surgery and she has been eating normal food without any problems she never vomited she drinks tons of water and seems to be doing fantastic she has lost 85 pounds in 8 months... Of course mine couldn't be normal I figured I'd have problems I always have problems... The worst is I know I'm going to lose all my hair because I cannot drink protein shakes I'm going to be a bald wrinkly looking person... I try to eat protein to prevent that but all I can eat is fish and some cheese and I have discovered that I love potatoes and I know I shouldn't eat as many as I do but its the only thing that makes me feel normal... I can go to a restaurant and eat a baked potato probably all of maybe 3 or 4 spoons of it but at least I'm eating something on my plate... I'm hoping when I can eat chicken at least I can order some sort of chicken and look halfway normal I can pick at it and get more protein in because I have always loved any kind of chicken... So I'm hoping I don't sabotage my weight loss by eating potatoes but right now it's all that I can eat that makes me feel okay plus potatoes make me be able to have bowel movements don't ask me why it's always been that way but this has been my saving grace when it comes to that ..I have not had to take a laxative since my surgery which of course its only been 7 weeks but still I know girls that have had nothing but problems once I ate some potatoes I went like a normal person... I know we'll all be happy in the end when we're smaller and able to move around and after were allowed to have any thing we want to eat within reason... Everyone seems to mention sugar as a problem I can that's a problem because I can eat sugar I actually sucked on a piece the kids candy the other day I know I'm bad but it was so good... I am type 2 diabetic but I have a problem where if I do not get sugars I become hypoglycemic and bottom out... The two weeks I did not touch any sugar my blood sugar was in the low 60 s almost to the 50 S & almost passed out so I was allowed to bring in some sugar the doctor said he rather me use natural sugar than to use sweeteners in the first place artificial sweeteners I mean... I wish everyone luck with this I know it's just the learning experience and in time will all be ok and look fabulous! -
I don't understand why we need more protein now..every diet I was ever on before said that I needed 4 to 6 ounces of protein a day that is nowhere near what they require now I would think that I would need to eat the same amount of protein as I did then doesn't make sense
