HELP! I need a fill doctor in Texas!!!
Mellis replied to MzDandylion's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I may be a little late--but you can keep in mind for next time. I get my fills at the radiology clinic in Paris (RRRC). The radiologist does it under flouro--$350--does a very good job. There are 3 different ones who do it--i have had 2 of them--both did a good job. My band was in Mty also and they have never had any qualms about it. Usually I can call and get in the next day -
Calling all who had surgery in MEXICO
Mellis replied to roseyandmusic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi--I just found your note and hope I can still help you. I had surgery with Dr.Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey and will be happy to help you. -
First patients to have Realize...let's hear from you!

that's why i get so frustrated when people refer to getting a band as "cheating". I think it takes MORE willpower to make sure you are eating the right things--when the soft stuff goes down so much easier -

but isn't it just amazing how the sweets still go down so easy when regular food doesn't!!! -

It sounds like you have a problem--have you had a flouroscopy done to make sure of the placement of the band?--just changing which brand of gastric band you have wouldn't necessarily take care of the problems you are reporting. I would get an x-ray/swallow done to make sure my band hadn't slipped. Just a thought. -
Well, I'm gonna do it! I scheduled the date for December 28th to get the lapband! Now I'm so excited--and a nervous wreck!! All words of wisdon are welcome!! Mary 12/28

I did not request deletion of the previous email. what i posted was an email sent to me a year ago that wasa sent me praising Dr. R. to prove how her opinion changes according to the facts she choses to make up. She cannot verify any of her allegations because they are false. just because she says they are true--doesn't make it so. I did look on OH--even what she says is there--Isn't!! she is making that up too. It truly makes me wonder now if all of what she says about other docs (other than hers) is false also--I would question anything she says because i know this to be false. as far as i'm concerned this discussion is over. If someone would like to contact me privately, i will reply individually, but i will not be open to the comments made by one person who considers herself the know it all

it is not appropriate to post a personal/private email that someone sent you

Wasa There is not a true piece in anything you said! I don't know where you think your facts are coming from, other than made up in your own brain. You cannot provide any documentation for any of your allegations--because they are false. If you could, you would provide them, other than just throwing statements out there and trying to scare people. Dr. R goes all over the world teaching and is considered one of the best in the world and one of the innovators of the surgery. The fact is, you are a coordinator for Dr Aceves--who pretends to be trying to help people with your "facts"--but instead you are just trying to scare them to your dr. And even though you rant and rave about other coordinators, you are no better and worse than most of them. And in the interest of fairness, I am working with Dr R--but I don't go around bashing everyone else. I think there are enough patients and enough dr's to go around--and that each person has to find the dr that is the right fit for them.
-
That is sure a change from what you were saying a year ago. In fact, you were telling me that he helped you with a problem even though he wasn't your doctor. I have checked, and he does NOT have a 20% erosian stat--so you must be talking about someone else.

Liquid Stage was KILLING ME, I feel much better tonight!
Mellis replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Another thing I did when I was at my wits end--I made a very liquid cream of wheat(used double the amount of liquid-i used milk to up the protien)--remember giving cereal to baby so they would sleep through the night?--same effect! -
That is the biggest difference I have seen between US docs and Mex docs--here in the US you have to be sick first--the Mex docs do the surgery before you get sick to prevent the comorbidities!!

absolutely!!! I've been overweight/obese for over 20 years--tried every "diet" out there and never lost it. I am now less than I have been in over 20 years. Yes, mine has been slower than a lot of people I have seen--but then--I'm not ON a diet any more!! If i want something-i eat it--just a whole lot less of it! -

i was banded 12/28/07 with the realize band--i'm 52 lbs down now--which is 22% of my original weight -
I absolutely agree with that! I only lost 7 lbs the first month--but now I'm 9 months out and 52 lbs down--i've lost 22% and am now officially overweight!!(29.8 BMI!!!)--that fits the 1-2 lbs per week--even with the couple of plateaus i have hit
-
it truly does depend on which dr you have--and what their practice is. Example--I had none of the stuff you mentioned--so you can see it goes from nothing to everything
-
Does anyone but me want to keep getting the band a secret? I am scheduled for 12/28 and just don't want to tell very many people. Is it a fear of failing "again" or just not wanting to go through "the discussion"? AND of the few people I am telling--even few of them know that I am going to Mexico to have it done--absolutely because I don't want THAT discussion!! My husband told his father and my f-i-l's remark was"I rather just be fat than have surgery" But like I told hubby--that's because he has no clue--but then most people don't! so--back to the question--do you tell people ahead of time--or wait till they notice Mary

When can we start to drink coffee?
Mellis replied to Benellid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never quit drinking coffee--but the nutritionist did say that at least the first little bit--to add milk or cream--more to counter the acidity. Since that is how I drink it anyway--I had no problem with that!! -
Disapproving family...help!
Mellis replied to Aphrodite1984's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/28 in Monterrey by Dr A. Rodriguez. As a nurse, I am embarassed to admit that I recieved better patient care THERE than I ever did in hospitals here-inclcuding the one I worked in! And the care from the Dr was not to be compared--he seemed to genuinely care. And as far as follow-up--I have his email address and his direct cell phone number! -
Oh dear .. My doc shocked me ...
Mellis replied to Pix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sometimes I think all the different prescribed diets are more a difference in definitions than actual differences. But I have noticed that he US docs are a lot more conservative about pre and post op diets than Mex docs. After my surgery I was on Liquids for 1 week(any liquids-clear full-pudding,etc) Then 1 week of soft foods(anything you could give a 5-6 month old-or someone without teath) then gradually ease back into normal foods as I was able. -
Young Doc or Old Doc?
Mellis replied to CaliGirl626's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the question to me would be how much experience they have doing the band--not overall experience. The younger(or older) may have the most lapband experience -
help me narrow down mexico surgeon choice

There is more than one dr. Rodriguez--I went to Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey--he is not associated with Belite -
How much is the cost of a band fill?
Mellis replied to blynt1065's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found so many different prices!! If I go back to my doc in Mexico--no charge--with flouro. A doctor here in town charges $500 without flouro AND you have to go have an endoscopy done first. i went to a radiology clinic about 60 miles east that they charged $350 with flouro--one of the radiologists is a bandster. When I can get the price right, it is as cheap to go back to Monterrey--I went there once and went here once. I have pretty good restriction right now, so it should be a while before i have to go back -
I went to Dr. R and cannot say enough great things about him--he and his entire staff are wonderful! I paid the 7900--think that is the right price--his website is Lap band surgery - Gastric Banding - Grupo Endro-Bariatrico Mexico The other site you mentioned isn't his. If you want more info from other people who have used him--go to his forum--or feel free to contact me

It really depends on your doc--the preop diet can range from none to weeks of liquids.
