@@BLERDgirl Thank you for the explanation. I have never really been a chickpea fan, however, I have committed to trying everything at least once to see if any prior off limits foods have move from the dark side to light. I'll look into this. I saw it in a Ricotta Bake recipe, but that stuff sounded horrible.

2 weeks beyond surgery still hungry 2,200 calories a day what's wrong?
winklie replied to Dallas Powell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are placed in a cardiac ward (typically) after GB surgery because the first and easiest way to detect leaks is that the subject will develop tachycardia (heart rate typically > 120 bpm at rest), if not fixed very soon, as in within hours, death is the most likely outcome, as your septic. (see sepsis), if you had a whole in your stoma and were stuffing this food into your abdomen, your heart would be racing after several hours, and sadly you would not have survived two weeks. All those different foods and their associated bacteria in your abdomen! I mean if an appendix (think of how small those are) bursts, it's touch and go about survival for awhile, and that's just a couple of ounces of liquid. -
@ No biggie, I usually go by Winkly but it was taken if you can believe that, so I use the alternate spelling. It's a long story, perhaps someday I'll share the etymology of my username.

What the hell is Hummus? I keep reading about it, and I see it in the store, like 349583094583 flavors. I hear it's big in the middle east, and I am a pretty bland eater, any suggestion for a really mellow one to try?

I worry about it as well. I'll say this, it takes some work to really stretch a pouch out. My best friend had a RNY GB 12 years or so ago. He eats whatever he wants, and has failed miserably at the whole weight loss thing (from 700 pounds to 400) but even with that, he can't eat more than a single piece of pizza at a time. His issue, is that he'll start on a pizza at 1700, and by the time he goes to bed, he will have eaten the whole thing, one slice at a time. So, i'll go on record stating that while it is certainly possible to stretch your pouch, it is not easy, if it were my freind would be dead by now. In fact, he has a number of extremely severe health issues relating to, you guessed it, morbid obesity. He has become so anemic that he has to to the hospital three days a week and be infused with Iron via a slow drip, as his body has completely lost the ability to absorb Iron. His Vitamin D is heading the same way, I think his current Vitamin D is 200,000 IU a week and even that has not brought his levels up to normal. He'll die fairly soon I think, we've been friends for 30 years, and I'll miss him, but this is all his doing. I talked until I was blue in the face and he laughed everything off. Oh and he needs double knee replacements, complete knee replacements, at 42 years old. Not good.

First, you have a really easy going NUT and Surgeon if you can eat a Lean Cuisine at 3 weeks post. I am on pureed food and very limited at that. The amount of food you can imbibe is directly linked to the size of the pouch, if you can get that much food in you, time to consider sitting down with the Surgeon and having a discussion, something about your pouch is wrong. You could have a Fistula (which is a connection to the old stomach) and this would explain why you can get that much food in you. But aside from that, a properly constructed pouch would make it impossible to get that kind of food inside you, I mean 3 lean cuisines at a time, that's crazy. A Fistula can be repaired under a local with an endoscope, not a bad fix, if your pouch is way too big or stretched like crazy, there is but one fix, another surgery, to reduce the pouch size to the correct size. Best of luck -
Wow congratulations, meeting your goal is quite the accomplishment! I have a ways to go, but I'll get there.

As I understand this is extraordinarily rare, sort of like a Politician telling the truth, and only done as an absolute last resort, and it carries a very high mortality rate, well dependent on how long ago the RNY was done, but no I have never heard of it being done, and even in speaking to my surgeon, who has been at this for 20 years, he's never reversed one, he said it's possible, but you would need to be on deaths door, and there are just so many other workarounds, for really anything that pops up that he's never done it. Hope that helps

My ass hurts when I sit too long, I'm f'ing freezing when the temps dip below 64 and

So I am in school last night, Applied Statistics, the hardest class, ever, I just (along with I think everyone else hate it). My tummy got to rumbling, and I thought I was going to have a blow out sitting there. It was funny though at one point, the teacher paused so we could sort of grasp what she was saying, and all anyone could hear was my stomach rumbling, even the teacher looked at me (and she knows what surgery I just had) and was like, do you need to step outside, and I was like, oh no I'll be fine (stomach growls) then one of my classmates said "dude, you better go to the mens room and get that out, cause if you pass that gas in here, we're all gonna die" I fired back there is a 50% chance it's gas, therin lies the problem. Then I had to ride the bus home and walk a mile from the bus station to my house, I spent a good hour on the toilet afterwards, what a nightmare! I did eat a couple Dannon light and fit yogurts last night, hoping for some of that probiotic love I keep reading about. -
So on my Facebook page I started a discussion. Here is the gist, it comes in three parts. Part one, we have a Heroin epidemic at least here in my state. Part two the State created it by going postal on Doctors a growing number of whom refuse to prescribe narcotic pain medication anymore, under any circumstances. Part three, the Narcan cycle. Heroin user OD's, get's Narcan (it's being given away all over the place) and with a a little CPR (if the heart stops) is back up and going again in a few minutes. Police are not making arrests when they administer Narcan, because, and this is sad, if they were, the other junkies would just let the guy who OD'd die rather than risk a bust. So the discussion was about this rather broad topic, that I am frankly mixed over. Somehow the discussion became a personal attack against myself, yes I have faced my demons in life. I have not had an easy one. Okay, now for the question. The comment was made, by several people, that a RNY GB is nothing more than treatment for an addiction, that left untreated would kill me, food. I don't feel this is right. I deleted the post as it had gone straw man by then and I am not getting into that. But I do not see myself as addicted to food. I did not move enough, and ate the wrong foods without a thought about quantity or quality, and I cannot fight my genes, everyone in my family is obese. So what say you, was that an accurate, if harsh description of a GB it is simply Narcan for a food addict?

@@lauraellen80 I think it depends on the person. I am just 2.5 weeks out. However I was on Senna Lax 8.6mg tabs 4 a day for years prior to surgery. I get constipated very easily. Constipation causes me massive pain. Right now is an exploratory time, I am trying to figure out what works in what doses and how often. Thus far I have had two states, either plugged up, or the exact opposite. I am trying to find that middle ground. Adding to all this is the fact that I still have Isopure left and MY BODY HATES IT, but damnit, I spent $50 and no matter how my ass feels about it, I am going to drink every gram of it. I'm cheap what can I say? -
Hernia repair, gall bladder removal, and gastric bypass at the same time.
winklie replied to tamywill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Jangy03253 You had/have or are having a DS, which is a much more involved operation that a LRNY GB. Also as DS patients lose the most weight of all the surgeries, I don't think it is a bad idea at all to remove the Gallbladder just to prevent what is bound to be another surgery down the road. Apparently the chances of you developing gallstones in in relation to the amount of weight you lose and how fast you lose it. -

I am actually working out and emergency ass kit to carry with me to cleanup and restore my ability to be in a group. I am a full time college student. I retired from one industry and decided to do what I have always wanted to do. Now another year and a half of school and I'll be set to do so. I had "an emergency" in the park last week. Three miles into a six mile walk. To my left ten feet away was the Nashua River (BIG HUGE DEEP River) to my right about 100 yards of woodland. It got to the point my ass informed me one of two things was about 10 seconds away from happening. Either you are going right here right now, -or- you can grab a couple of handfuls of those ferns and try to make it to that big tree..... I went the tree option. Was about 1.5 seconds shy..... Thank god I carry a knife on me. I was able to remove my underwear, and between them and the ferns did and acceptable job cleaning up. I was also lucky I was wearing my biggest hoodie that day and it hangs all the way down over my ass. I got home and decided I needed an emergency kit, I am just trying to decide what to include and how to package it. I don't take my backpack with me everywhere so I am thinking of some kind of standalone case. I guess a pair of sweat pants, wet wipes, a bunch of those big huge folded paper towels, baby powder perhaps. Oh and some ghetto cologne, Axe, lol. -

I BEGGED my surgeon to yank my Gallbladder while he was RIGHT NEXT TO IT and he was like, that is a different procedure. I was like, how about a sonogram let's check for stones that would justify the surgery, and he got a little pissed, Doctors hate it when they cannot just talk over you. He denied that request as well. So, I get to take Actigall for the next year....... -

I was walking 7-10 miles a day pre-op. The day after surgery, I was bored in the hospital so I did laps. 12600 steps. My surgeon, came up that evening and we were talking and I showed him my fitbit and he showed me his, 9900 steps. We shared a good laugh. Day two in the hospital was worse, as I was even more bored, so I did 14500 steps. It was actually kinda funny, the other patients thought there was something wrong with me. Since getting out of the hospital, life has not been kind, I've only done a 6 mile walk twice, and I toned my pace way down, because more or less everyone I knew was screaming at me to slow down. Yesterday at the two week post op check in, all restrictions were lifted, sans 20 pound lifting limit and that goes away in two weeks. I built a gym in my spare room, I am looking forward to starting weight training along with walking and eventually running once I lose enough weight.

20 days and things aren't "moving"...
winklie replied to twinmomC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had (for lack of a better way of putting it) ass problems for years. In fact it is familial, both my children required a very carefully worked out prune juice additive to their bottles and food for several years before they were able to go on w/o it. My niece (From my sister) required three surgeries to remove broken parts of her intestines (look up hirschsprung disease) my mother has been plugged up since she was a little girl. I was taking a lot of different meds prior to surgery, and my Doctor and I found that Senna Lax 8.6mg 2 pills am 2 pills pm kept me pretty regular, I also have a standing prescription for Miralax (prescription strength) that I take if I go 2 or more day w/o a BM, if I go another 2 days, I add colace, and between the three, I could pass a large rock. Post op. No more Senna...... Miralax, Miralax, Miralax. Oh and 100+ oz of Water a day. My Surgeon understood my ass was going to be an issue before the surgery, and it has not failed to disappoint. I was at my two week post op yesterday, and we had an entire conversation about my ass. Actually, even more effective than Miralax is Isopure Carb Free. My body H-A-T-E-S that stuff. One shake of that before bed and by am, it's a rush to the bathroom where out it goes, there is no mistaking the scent, it's the Isopure. liquid Colace, is w/o a doubt the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. In fact the only times I have vomited post op are after taking that stuff. Perhaps it's the brand. I don't know. Surgeon advised Miralax every day, until I get a handle on this, then we can start cutting back until we find a balance. -

@@Sharon1964 My Treatment center has taken this to a whole new degree. I get 2 emails, at 1 week and 1 day before the appointment, a robocall, where you have to listen to the machine blah blah and press #1 to keep the appointment, and a text message 2 days before the appointment where you have to reply to the text by sending 'C' to keep the appointment. Honestly it's over the top. I made all but one of my appointments, and I live 30 miles away, do not drive and rely on public transit and made it. Each appointment requires 2 miles of walking and three different buses, each way. Yes, round trip is 4 miles walked, and six buses. If I can go through all that and make 19/20 appointments, I have little pity for someone who misses an appointment. That being said, things can and do happen, however as I pointed out in my last post, everything is a test. The Doctors want patients who are going to be successful, and they are testing you at every turn, every test, every exam, Think of it like this, they do informational seminars twice a month to a packed room, hundreds of people. They do eight to 10 surgeries a week. Sometimes a few more sometimes a few less. So from hundreds of potential patients they have weeded it down to 8-10 a week, those 8-10 are the most motivated, cream of the crop so to say, and thus most likely to succeed. Which bodes well for the Doctor. -

winklie replied to Snowbutterfly's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The thing is, for the Treatment Center, every step is a weeding out process. Think of it, you most likely went to an informational seminar, that was packed with several hundred people. Now think of all the work between that first encounter until surgery. They are testing you, making sure you are ready. My Doctors office, is super cool if I have to miss an appointment, I just call, explain why and reschedule. That being said, I missed one, out of I would guess, 20 visits over 6 months. -

How long does it take you to drink
winklie replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot answer this question as drinking has become and unconscious activity. It's just something I do. I fact, I have to measure my liquids as I go through the day, I dispense 16oz at a time, when empty I log it. But there are shakes, coffee in fact just about everything I eat is a liquid at this point. I got through a 34 oz Water bottle in 2.5 hours during school last night (and that was while trying to get caught up in Statistics), however I drank the same bottle in about an hour earlier in the day. My NUT is getting miffed as she said I am taking in too much liquid.
