Thanks Inner Surfer Girl. It takes a lot to get me down. Living positive is the only way to be. I must say the almost 4 months I spent in hospital was very hard but I got through it and will keep going. It was great getting rid of the chair! I am left with minimal problems from the surgery but the way I look at it, I have a second chance at life! Without the surgery, I would most probably have died in the next 10 years.

Hi :-) I was 435.63lb (197.6kg) before surgery August 2014 and am now 236.77lb (107.4kg) so have lost over 198lb (90kg). Things have slowed down a lot and I have an extreme amount of excess skin plus I had many complications after surgery (gastric leak leading to pneumonia, a collapsed lung, organ failure and many months in hospital) but am glad I had it as it has changed my life. It has taken me a long time to say that but things are on track. I sold my wheelchair (needed for other health reasons) and am currently studying to become a medical administrator/practice manager!

I'm going crazy! I am stuck when it comes to snacks. I find myself sucking the cheese of the kids corn chips or the salt off peanuts! I know its terrible. I feel ashamed ???? I do have a laughing cow every now and again but what i really long for is soy crisps. Are we able to have them as a snack? Help i need ideas!

Thanks for your advice Veronica. I will definitely be trying some of your ideas. Do you know if oranges are ok? I have been sucking the juice out and leaving the pulp.

Nightmare journey to weight loss goal
missymac replied to Chatterboxa86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Chatterbox86, i see your original post was on 5/8/14. I had my sleeve the following week and was in and out of hospital until Christmas eve. I developed a leak and went septic. I also got pneumonia, a stent put in then removed, a collection in my chest cavity which is still there and gives me pain daily, nj tubes, pic lines no food or Water for months, developed diabetes insipidus, became suicidal, had drains in my chest, almost died twice, countless procedures and now have my hair coming out in chunks (i expected some hairloss but this is rediculous). I also have flashbacks of my time in hospital, half of which i dont remember. I, like you sometimes think to myself was it worth all this? right now, i wish i never had it but in time, im sure i will be glad i made the decision to have it. I have lost 73kg so far so that is a plus. -
Can you lose more then 100 lbs with the sleeve?
missymac replied to lyndabuon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes i had my surgery in August last year and in the past 7 months have lost 73kg which is about 160lb. -
Hi everyone. I had my sleeve done in August last year and have been plagued by problems since. 4 weeks after surgery i had persistent vomiting for 2 weeks and ended up in hospital for 4 months and almost died twice. I had developed a hole in the upper part of my stomach and its contents had leaked into my chest wall cavity and around my organs causing my lung to collapse and develope pneumonia, sepsis and due to me being on lithium at the time, diabetes insipidus meaning my kidneys stopped working. I got transferred to a specialist hospital where i had operation after operation and a drain in my chest wall. I got out of hospital Christmas eve with a collection that might never go on my chest, months worth of antibiotics and an nj tube down my nose to give me fluid as i couldn't have more that 100mls an hour. I have been going well since then and my last scan a week and a half ago showed the leak is healed over half way through my stomach wall which means nothing is leaking out. But that brings me to now. For the past 24hrs i have been getting what for lack of a better way to describe it feels like soft contractions in my stomach. I thought they might be hunger pains but i still get them after eating or drinking. I am also getting a lot of integestion (burping) and sometimes the pain goes through to my back??? I'm petrified to call my surgeon or even see the gp. Has anyone else experienced this?

Popcorn After Gastric Sleeve Surgery....
missymac replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As much as i like popcorn i am staying well away from it. I had my surgery on 13th August 2014 and developed a tear in my stomach and after going septic and almost dying twice plus being fed through a nj tube until last week, i can safely say i am sticking to what my docs have told me to do. I got out of hospital Christmas eve and i don't plan on going back so unfortunately popcorn is just going to have to wait. Please be careful with your food. I was and still ended up very sick which makes me worry what might happen to someone starting foods too soon or pushing their limits.
