How long should it take to eat?

I do find that if I take ages to eat I can eat more. It does start to empty out of the pouch. I have a bad habit of eating till satisfied, stopping, but not gettign rid of my meal. Ten minutes later I can eat a bit more etc. Its never a big meal, still bandster size but I could eat leas than I do without going hungry kind of thing. It hasnt mattered, I have 8kg to go to goal but I am not losing anymore so for me, its probably time to follow a few of these bandster rules.

    No liquids required! Cool!

Well I thought that was exactly what I said Laurigee - I'm not knocking the Optifast, I was just mildly disagreeing that it makes all the difference to recovery. But I only know my own experience, not anyone elses. But I dont see where anyone has mentioned there being 2 classes of obese except for YOU when you say you'd question the motives of anyone of BMI 35 having this surgery. Tsk tsk. I wouldnt say that too loud if I were you. I certainly dont think I'm "better" because I didnt have to do it.
  3. Men lose faster than women basically because they have more muscle tissue and therefore much faster metabolisms.

Um, I've never seen a wombat in the street, lol. They do poo on all the sitemarkers down at Wilsons Promontory though so you can never find your campsite! Kangaroo meat isnt much to eat - pretty tasteless. Kangaroos can be a pest here so it makes sense to eat them but it doesnt sit well with me. Which is insane - its somehow OK to raise a sheep specifically for the purpose of killing it to eat, but I wont eat kangaroo, which is free ranging and in feral proportions?

Did all the biggest losers get tummy tucks???

Although look at this pic of him http://www.realitytvworld.com/realitytvdb/erik-chopin/person-906 You can see he DOES have some loose skin. Look at his arms, and you can see he's got a bit of an apron under that shirt - perhaps it was just all clever TV lighting and make up. Physiologically it just seems impossible. Not to take away one BIT from what they've achieved, its phenomenal.

Did all the biggest losers get tummy tucks???

I've got to say it did cross my mind that they'd had plastic surgery in the intervening months. It just seems impossible doesnt it? Eric was sooooo big, although he does show a bit of loose skin under his chin.. They've had one Australian season and Adro, the guy that won is having PS now, but he's up front about it.

Did all the biggest losers get tummy tucks???

I retract my statement now that the last episode has been shown in Australia, lol. Wow, those 4 looked amazing right at the end. When they left the ranch they looked to me like they were hiding a bit of loose skin, but boy, their arms are all flawless in the finale! It must be all the weights and toning. I cannot figure how you could lose so much so fast and not have a ton of loose skin to contend with.

Hehehe, well throw another shrimp on the barbie is an Americanism, since we eat PRAWNS here and you'd never ruin a good prawn by putting it on the barbie. Normally you eat prawns as part of a cold seafood platter - which is a very common Australian Christmas meal due to it being summer. We've got a weber and a barbecue - the weber is great for entertaining and cooking a large piece of meat (or several) at once for company, but for most people its too much trouble to light the weber and allow it to heat for a few snags (sausages) or chops, when you have a gas barbecue that's alight instantly.

    Rewards!

I had to lay off the shopping, it was getting out of control. But I can shop now more than I could because i dont have to pay $80 for a Tshirt, like I had to when I wore plus sizes. So I'm enjoying spying something and being able to have it and it not costing a fortune. Running is my reward, to be able to just go out for a run and it not kill me but rather, make me feel good! I love it.

here we say Roast Beef not Beef Roast, ditto pork, but roast lamb is also just called a leg of lamb. Roast chook for roast chicken. But simply a "roast" can mean any of them. Now we often say we're having a Weber also because we more often than not cook big pieces of meet in the Weber (kettle barbecue). I'd never do a turkey or pork in the oven for Christmas day, its always in the weber. Coke just means all softdrink to me too, soda is soda water, a mixer (I think you call it club soda). Durex is stickytape and rubbers are what you use to erase pencil mistakes!

    cold after having surgery

I'm always cold coming out of an anaesthetic. But this winter in Australia, I noticed I was MUCH colder than usual - I've always been impervious to it. But I froze, I was always going and getting a jacket and we had a very mild winter in Melbourne. I think it was just my body adjusting to less insulation, its summer now but I notice also that sometimes I need to pop something with long sleeves on at night.

    I'm thrilled, and a question

People have all sorts of ways to deal with leaving food in a restaurant from taking the food home, to having a card stating they can only eat so much so that they can order smaller portions etc. Truth is I think you have to get over it. Having a hang up in your head about "wasting" food is what made us fat/keeps us fat. YOu need to be able to totally dissociate yourself emotionally from it and not worry about whether or not it goes uneaten or whether you've gotten your money's worth. I truly think its really important to force yourself to get to that point rather than finding ways to cope with wastage. So what if 3/4 of the meal remains on your plate and goes in the bin if you've had a nice night with good company and enjoyed what you did eat. You are not a garbage bin - you can only eat what you can eat and the rest is wasted whether you throw it out or eat it when you dont really want it. Its really a victory to have gone to a buffet and done so well, good on you. To no longer care about what you DIDNT eat though, that's what you're truly aiming for. Having said that, the sizes of meals we get served nowadays is insane - and I live in Australia, its about half of what you guys get served up to you over there. Its senseless wastage since the average person just doesnt need (or want) to eat it all. Even when I was obese I could rarely finish a restaurant meal.

7 days post op. Is this bad??

If you'd been given the OK on mushies and you chewed it to mush and had no discomfort or problems, then you've done no harm. You know the food value of fast food, but we all have to eat it on occasion when there's no alternative. You did the best you could, didnt just throw caution to the wind and didnt overdo it. I think you did well. Planning ahead is a better idea of course, but these things happen from time to time. I've got a small cooler and some containers that have ice rings in them that you can prefreeze to keep food cold - since I go to uni and dont have access to a fridge or anything. The food is fine in the car for a couple of hours. Although nowadays a year out I'd just buy a salad roll or something healthy instead.

    Vitamins?

I dont have any trouble with large capsules, so I just take regular vitamins and Fish Oil.

    Abdominal Excersise

You wont hurt the band once you're healed up from surgery. I find more pilates based core stuff more effective than a gazillion poorly done crunches personally. Planks, OW and boy are they effective! Just doing lots of running has strengthened my tummy up a lot too.

Where will YOU be on Xmas Day?

Looks like it might be a white Christmas in melbourne, lol, even though its the middle of summer. Its forecast 14 degrees celcius, that's cold even for winter! Crazy mad weather, this global warming thing is scary. There is actually some snow forecast in the high country!

    I,m so clean

It hasnt been really BAD for 10 years but we have had drought conditions for 10 years. The last year or two have been awful. We've had Water restrictions of some degree or another for about 7 years now. Its sad - my kids do not know what it is to play under the sprinkler in the summertime, or to play slip'n'slide with a sheet of black plastic and some soapy water. Hot tubs and snow though, lol, sounds like a porn movie!
  21. And who is it that decides that rape and incest are bad enough circumstances to justify abortion but that falling unexpectedly pregnant when you are in no situation to support a baby or becoming aware that your baby has congenital defects are not? You cant specify some conditions are bad enough and not others. The child of a rapist is still a child with a right to live if you view it that way, as much so as the child of a middle class white woman who simply doesnt want anymore babies and has fallen unexpectedly pregnant. To "force" a woman to breed is to "force" a woman to breed, regardless of the circumstances of the conception. You cant have it both ways. Either an 8 week old foetus is a baby or it isnt, it doesnt matter if it came into being due to rape or incest. And either a woman has the right to choose what she does with her own body or she doesnt. This is an unwinnable argument, because both sides are fraught with moral dilemma.

    Tips for a new runner?

Its SO addictive! Today its smoky in Melbourne. Half of Victoria is up in flames, terrible bushfires and drought, and the wether conditions have brought the smoke down into Melbourne. Air quality is very poor today. So I wont be running outside. I really am tempted to just go though, but its really not good for you breathing huge lungfuls of bushfire smoke.

    Downsizing & dress size

Oh baggy clothes are rarely flattering. You feel like you're hiding your fat but you arent. I have a girlfriend who whilst not obese is plump. And she always insisted on wearing skin tight lycra Tshirts even while she was nursing, and had big nursing pads on, lol. YOu could see everything. She had rolls on her tummy and big arms and she looked atrocious most of the time and of course we'd all bitch about her behind her back, as girls do. Anyway one night she turned up to girls night in this kaftan thing (when kimono tops and the like made a bit of a comeback 3 or so years ago). I didnt recognise her, she looked like a huge obese person in this flowing garment. Since that time, I have always been braver with clothes choices and avoided big tops to hide under. Now of course, after a year of being banded, I can pretty much wear anything I want so I dont need to hide.

    Question for the ladies...

Unfortunately not, lol. I dont have huge boobs - in proportion to me, I am an E cup but 5ft 10, so I dont have the kind of bustline where people dont talk to my face. They suit me OK. But its hard to buy bra's for an E, especially when you've shrunk to an Australian 12-14 band size, its a speciality size, not an off the rack size. I'm seriously considering a liposuction reduction to a D cup. I run a lot and I really could do without the wolf whistles and hoots on the main roads as well, they do cause a bit of a stir when they're bouncing up and down! I wouldnt go a full reduction due to the scarring, and even though they're a bit on the sad side after 7 years of breastfeeding 3 children, I dont really care about that either. I'd just like to be able to run in more comfort and buy bras more easily.

    Drinking During Eating

I drink when I want to and its usually pretty soon after a meal. Far from washing the food through while I'm eating, drinking at the same time of eating is the one thing guaranteed to almost make me PB. It blocks me up badly. I think I probably do get hungrier sooner than if I didnt drink so soon after a meal (I usually want a coffee fairly soon after lunch) but really, I'm almost at goal weight so who cares? Its worked for me so far, lol.
