Its a good supplement for everyone, it has so many benefits. I take it, and it really helps with the dry hair/skin I suffer from and I've noticed it does reduce inflammation in the body too - really helps that poor old heel of mine with all the running.
-
Id always choose to go with a band, adjustable, removable, I've really found that its user driven, I can be as tight or unrestricted as I please, and it has been done for over a decade in Australia, there's been plenty of practice. At a BMI of 35, I truly didnt think something like a gastric bypass was for me and its barely done here anyway. And the gastric sleeve, well its too new for my liking, I'd like to see it around a lot longer before I chose it. But I'd have another band a million times over.

That's the trouble with current fashion, isnt it? Even thin people have muffin tops in lower rise pants. If you can match your fatty suckeriners with your top, or at least make them black, perhaps people wont guess? They'll just assume its a camisole? Myself - even my 20 year old university pals display some pretty impressive muffin tops, I figure mine is modest by comparison. So I wear it with pride. But I draw the line at visible bum crack.

Lol, but if you're really stuck you salivate profusely, its terrible. Its more than just pain.
-
Everything you can say about running applies to walking too. There's no need to run if you dont want to, but if you get fit enough, one day you'll find that you cant get your heart rate over 100 no matter how hard you walk - unless you find some very big hills. So yeah, walk! Its a great way to start and like running, its convenient and cheap. And you can take kids with you on bikes or in prams.

Yeah, that sounds like a minor stuck episode. A bit more stuck and you'd have saliva pooling in your mouth that you cant swallow (without making the golf ball feeling worse) and for me, I get the shakes, and a need to burp but I cant. It really hurts. Anymore than that and up it comes. I'm astounded that a doctor would tell you to drink when you're stuck. That does NOT help. It will make the pain a thousand times worse. Dont do it.

I have the exact same bad habits I had before. I really struggle with sweet carb foods like cakes, muffins, Cookies. I drink WAY too much coffee. I probably drink more alcohol than is wise for weight loss, though I'm well within health recommendations and only drink wine. I tend to not eat meals and pick all day. I've even picked up another bad habit I never had - I'm a Breakfast skipper. I still eat when I'm not hungry, but bored, stressed etc. The difference is I handle those things better, do less of them and blow out far less when I do indulge. And there's ONE thing above all else that has negated a lot of these bad habits - running. Run an hour a day and you gain quite a lot of dietary freedom. The band takes care of the portion sizes so although my diet could be better, its not one that makes me obese like it once was.

is sugar free stuff bad for you?
Jachut replied to andielmt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I avoid them. If there's one food phobia I have, its artificial sweeteners. And I truly believe that the key to long lasting weight loss is to learn to handle ALL foods. Sweet foods in moderation, fatty foods in moderation. Cutting out food groups is not to my way of thinking sensible life long eating practice. You need to be able to live in the modern world, go out to eat, eat with friends, eat food others have prepared etc etc. So just learn to deal with it all in moderation seems a sensible way to go -
Yeah, me too. I had a white bathing suit one year so I took the lot off with a razor. Ick. Soooooo itchy and it really, um, reduced sensation. I know a lot of people say a brazillian increases sensation but I found the complete opposite. Plus, I'm no prude, but I just dont like it. Little girls are bald, I'm an adult woman. Its kind of creepy to me, just icky. But I would NEVER be brave enough to let someone down there to do it. The less people peer up my ginger the better. I can count on one hand the number who have and I'd like to keep it that way. And it would HURT!

Dont really need a tummy tuck (but could have a PERFECT stomach if I had a mini one, probably not worth the money, surgery, pain, recovery time though). I definitely need a breast lift. Its the one area on my body that has really suffered, I already had loads of stretch marks on my breasts, I need them fixed.

For those with BMI 35-40?
Jachut replied to ronwifey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh ugagirl, yes, I've had fat discrimination from other fat people. In fact at a BMI of 35, which afterall is quite "normal" looking in society these days, I've never actually felt discriminated against for my weight EXCEPT at places like Weight Watchers from people who were much heavier than me. I thought everyone who had a BMI of 50, must have had a BMI of 35 at least once in their life? Its a pathway to bad health and real morbid obesity and good on anyone who takes drastic action before they get there. Its not intended to rub anyone else's nose in it, and its most definitely not that whining your skinny size 8 friend indulges in because she thinks she looks fat in a bikini! -
Key for me, who has started a hundred exercise programs in my life and not stuck to them, is convenience. I love the gym, honestly, have no problem going but just simply have not got the time to go more than once or twice a week. Its doomed everytime I start. Which is why I took up running. I go to the gym again now but primarily I am a runner. I can put on my shoes, head out the front door and be back in 45 minutes. I can do it in the morning or the evening, on the weekend, at midday or midnight. I knew I would have to walk or run primarily because that was what I had time for. And I have a treadmill too so time and weather is no issue, if I cant go outside, I can still get on that. Luckily I came to love it. The gym is a fun addition, not my primary exercise. I can go to a class whenever I feel like but running is always there to keep me going if I'm busy or poor or cant make the gym for a hundred other reasons. A 40 minute drive, I just wouldnt even contemplate it, I'd know for sure that I'd last a week. Plus the cost of petrol these days! You'd easily pay for a bike or a treadmill with the savings you'd make by not driving that fat. Good luck!

Id go for a C at 5ft 2. I'm a DD now, almost down to a D which apart from the sag factor, is a pretty good size on my 5ft 10 frame. They're definitely "there" but not overly big.

I dont know, and I know I dont have much of a problem. But its aging too, isnt it? I am really struggling to come to terms with the fact that I feel and look so great now, but that I've wasted all my 30's being fat. I could have looked REALLY great before I started to sag and get wrinkles and sun damage etc etc. I feel so regretful that I allowed myself to get fat and like now I have this teeny tiny brief window to be an attractive sexy woman. Which is crap. I see people in their 40's, 50's and 60's ALL the time who look absolutely fabulous, its way more to do with confidence and having style than it is with how firm your stomach is. And even those people who you *think* are all that probably dont look that terrific naked. Hardly anyone does. PS will make a big difference to you but I think we have to realise there's physical decline that's going to happen anyway and we all have to come to terms with that whether we've been MO or not.

I've had periods after fills where I've suffered gnawing physical hunger. I tend to be a bit more restricted for a week or two post fill and then it eases off and during that time, I really do only eat the half cup portions. Its simply not enough for my energy needs and consequently I am STARVING but I cant fit more in. Once the restriction settled and I could eat more, and more fulfilling food, it would always go away but I would keep losing. That full feeling for me that I seemed to have by just having a band there went away within about 4 or 5 months, ever since its been a case of normal hunger levels, but smaller amounts of food to satisfy them. I can go Breakfast to lunch without eating easily but I need an afternoon snack, I cant make it from lunch to dinner. And I do eat about a cup at a time.

What horrible things have Dr.s said to you?
Jachut replied to zippykat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I got told to lose weight when I went to the doctor with a very sore neck. I was a physio student and someone had been practicing on me and damn near broke my neck by pushing on one of my cervical vertebrae with less than expert technique. He looked at me, out of the blue said "how much do you weigh?" and made me get on the scales. Then he said "lose a few kilos". I was 20 years old, 5ft 10 and maybe 170lb! Not skinny, but certainly not even overweight. -
You're lucky that you have everything you could imagine on the market over there - there's plus sizes here of course too, but far, far less and if you couldnt fit your legs into socks, I suspect you'd be going sockless in Australia. I havent worn tights or pantyhose for about 12 years since I finished work to have my first baby, oh how I loathed them. But I had so much trouble even being 5ft 10 tall, the plus sizes were still too short and at 5ft 10 and 160lb I suspect I wouldnt have a hope of wearing "normal" sized hosiery even now.

Blast from the past, the youtube music thread...

pffft. The 90's isnt "old" music. That's the 70's and 80's! -
Consuming 600-900 calories/day-is this wrong?
Jachut replied to charlygirl08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It does make a lot of sense, I agree. I mean, why do some people gain weight so easily? There's got to be loads of obese people out there (like my DH) that seriously dont eat THAT much food. I mean yes, he overeats for him, but he would literally eat half what any other 6ft 1, 260lb man would. He eats 3 meals a day, never Snacks, moderate alcohol intake (like a beer or two twice a week and a couple of glasses of wine a week) and he exercises too and yet he cant control his weight. Comes from sitting at a desk 10 hours a day no doubt. Some people simply have to go that low to lose. I worry seriously that people eating that little are malnourished and would argue seriously that its not necessary for most people, but when it is, you've got no real choice have you? I dont really believe in starvation mode personally. And I'd rather run for 3 hours every day than try to live on 800 calories, lol, I like my food too much to tolerate that. -
Any lapbanders who didn't have obesity related health problems?
Jachut replied to marnie723's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I dont think there's ANYTHING wrong with doing this surgery out of vanity. I freely admit that was my main motivation, I hated being fat. Many of us go on to take just as big risks with PS, there's risk of death with ANY surgery and as far as surgeries go this is a fairly simple on. The prevention of future health problems was also important to me, but I was mainly concerned with how bad I felt I looked. -
I've never been told that. YOu can get a bit tighter around period time, but that's usually in the lead up and you might find yourself with less than optimal fillwhen the bloating goes away. But really, that can apply to ANY time of the month, or being filled in the morning vs being filled in the afternoon. Everyone's restriction and body Fluid levels vary. I would go ahead with the fill.

Vent away, I know the frustration of foot problems. Myself, I have chronic bursitis in my right heel, and it has been constant for about four years now. It affects my whole leg and I have sciatic problems on that side. It was the main reason I had WLS, it started out of the blue one day. Losing 85lb or so has helped enormously, as have orthotics in my running shoes and I generally wear birkenstocks or some other orthotically designed shoe the rest of the time, with the occasional girlie shoe thrown in. I have had years of physio, my problem is quite manageable and not excruiciating like it was when I was fat and I manage to run regularly, running just means I cant walk for 15 minutes when I get up in the morning. Last week though out of desperation I went to an acupuncturist. I was so sceptical I probably appeared rude. Guess what, I'm about 3/4 cured. I have NO leg pain and had NO heel pain when I got up. All that's left is a mild sciatic pain in the buttock and a generalised ache and tightness of that lower right quadrant of my back and buttock. That's after ONE session. Truly miraculous and I've heard great things about acupuncture for planta fasciitis. OK, this wasnt meant to be a story about me, but my heart goes out to you. I actually have a hole in the bedroom wall behind the door where I kicked it out of pure frustration one day. I hope you find something that works for you.

When is the right time...
Jachut replied to Jeni 85's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've gotten past my initial goal to a BMI of 24 before I started considering a breast lift. And my stomach would be much improved by more weight loss, I really need to be down at 21, 22 for my build, what's round my middle is fat, not sagging skin. But then, I dont need a tummy tuck. I think when you do, you may as well take as much fat with it as possible, rather than lose that fat THEN have the tummy tuck. I mean save yourself some work! So 29, 30 sound sensible. I want a breast lift and I think for that I need to be right down where I plan to stay as my boobs have really only shrunk in the last 10kg. If I had had a lift at a BMI of 30, I would definitely have affected the result negatively with more weight loss as I've lost a lot of size since then. -
The decision was all mine, made with lots of discussions with my DH, but I told all my family and friends. I'd never have surgery without telling my family, my health is everyone's concern, lol, as theirs is mine. I'd kill my mum for example if she had even a colonoscopy without my knowing it.

Why can't they fill band the first time?
Jachut replied to mindyemt08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, they CAN fill it at 6 weeks and often do. But I'm all for avoiding fills you dont really need and not just having them becuase they're scheduled. I didnt have one at 6 weeks becuase I didnt need one until about 12 weeks. But they wont totally fill you up at that time, it takes time to approach more restriction. I now have the same sort of restriction at 3ml in a 4ml band as I had when I had 1ml in a 4ml band, your body changes over time and with weight loss and hence the need to fill more. And for some people it takes several fills to even get restriction, everyone's different. Then you can get filled and it not settle for a few weeks and suddenly you're too tight.
