Help Me Decide- One Now, One Later-- Or Both Later
Jachut replied to stateofzen's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Id wait and do both at once. Cosmetic surgery is a big upheval with a band and brings quite a risk of weight gain. I didnt unfill for my TT nine weeks ago but have suffered suchdiscomfort since that i advise doing so. Ive unfilled my band once for a major surgery and it has never been the same, i definitely would not choose to unfill it twice. Its taken me a loooooong time to be running and spinning and bodypumping again at anything like my previous schedule. Avoiding weight gain has been HARD. Alo, its common to get a little depressed after. Your new body is still not perfect, and changes take a long time to see. Nothing else in your life changes eithet, you kind of have a post surgery letdown. I also ouldnt want that twice. Then theres the money. Cheaper to have one anaesthtic. -
Well popcorn is an exception (i can inhale it) but most junk is very high in ft and very low in fibre which makes it kinda slidey as long as you chew. But i can eat junk food bread - no mcdonalds burger, no subway. Yet i can eat a real hamburger either made by me or from the fish and chip shop - homemade burger, fresh salad, tasted real bread roll. Not all of it, waaaay too big but some. Theres no real hyme or reason and its different fir different people.

Refill After Gall Bladder Surgery Question.
Jachut replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Absolutely, I could not feel the same restriction and my doc says this is not uncommon. I got too tight without even knowing it and have suffered weeks of heartburn before having an unfill last week,.a bit better but still need a bit more out I think. Sigh, but im just doing whst I did unfillef, enjoying apples and salads and yogurt and all the stuff thst used to be so hard. The beauty is that becsuse I couldnt feel so much restriction, the unfill hasnt resulted in changed food intake either -

I might add, I was years into maintenance and eating 1500 a day, not 600!!!!.A bit easier to stick to with no fill. -

I was unfilled for nine months while I had chemo. It was hard work but I didnt gain. I ran and went to the gym (rpm and bodypump) like normal during treatment, yeah I was pretty run down but I had to do it! I couldnt let myself gain! If I can do that through two surgeries, radiation and chemo and keep the weight gain away for nine months you CAN do this! -
Tummy Tuck & Breast Reduction 11 Hours Away!!!!
Jachut replied to highland's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I just cant believe how soon they kick you out. I was on for five days! I just wouldnt ge tht recouperation at home, decent meals cooked for me and a lomg spell of oing nothing but recovering. -
Oh beliee me, i more than make up for ut with my love of Cookies, cakes, muffins etc. I just like my enriched flour with a ton of sugar and fat! Not sure why i went off bread so decidedly but cant even bear the smell of it now. The other thing i hate with a passion is any sort of cooked cheese, i barf at the smell of my kids makin g toasted cheese sandwhiches, would rather starve than eat pizza. Strange!

I agree, i think people are sometimes looking for magic and even as a successful and experienced bandster, ive been guilty of it myself, and gotten myself into trouble because if it. Im peased to report a coupke if days fter a small unfill, i am feeling better, but i think i still need a bit more taken out. I have just been reminded that i cannot try o abdicate responsibility for what i eat to my band, it is NOT that easy. Even once successful wright loss has been attained, it takes hard work to keep it of. In fact i ork harder now than i did to lose it. To the OP i really want to urge you to go back and take more ir all of your fill out. Your band us not doomed, pouches often recover from an unfill and short spell on a liquid diet.

I have never believed bread is the enemy and i have lways been able to eat it if i want to take enough care. But ypu knw, i dont even like it anymore. In m opinion bread is quite eay to give up.

Soooooo true. And always worth keeping in the forefront of your mind. Its fascinating - i too lost most of my weight on far less restriction than it now takes me to maintain it.

Id say no man TRULY wants his wife or partner to just fake enjoying sex either. Mercy sex is normal once in a while but just putting out out of a sense of duty (which is what you seem to b suggesting Bigenuf) is not going to solve anything, its just hiding the problem. I agree that its not norml to never feel any desire for your partner in the absence of any other problms but there cn be real, treatable physical and psychological reasons for that not just cheating or reationship problems. For example, the difference tha HRT and testosterone have made to me is profound. Pressure or distrust are likely do more harm than lack of sex!

I get that and have since the early days. Starts dead centre, just below the breast bone, horribe gnawing steady pain. I cant relieve it by moving or getting into any particular position. It radiatates into my throat, the roof of my mouth and sometimes my back, then suddenly, it just stops. Ive had my and for seven years, am having a lot of trouble with heartburn, but hafnt had this pain for well over a year until the other day. Jts unrelated to food, i know that much.

I have suffered from a loss of libido and not feeling sexy in myself for a long time now and believe me, there's NOTHING you can do or say that will make her feel otherwise. For me, I started on testosterone treatment and that has made a huge difference to how I feel about sex, my libido came back. The rest was just time, after being treatment for rectal cancer and having an ileostomy for nine months, believe me, I was completely off sex. My hubby insisted he didn't even see my bag, but for pete's sake, I had a bag of **** hanging off my stomach. I was sick, worn out and worried. Sex was the last thing on my mind. Then followed menopause, depression, the works. Women's libidos are very complex, we couldn't be more different from men. Not wanting sex does not mean that you don't love your partner or are cheating. Some women are lucky, they have a strong sex drive and a good ability for sexual response, others of us are not so simply wired. Your wife may feel a lot more upset and confused about this than you realize - often it appears to the partner "oh, she just doesn't want it/me" and they don't see that the woman is not even sure WHY she is unresponsive, she's upset that she's unresponsive, she even knows she could just do it and pretend and make her partner happy but she just can't bring herself to. And when you're in that situation, as a woman, you fear showing any affection at all because it may be misinterpreted as a desire for sex. I'd be sure your wife is really OK. Could she be suffering from depression or any other mood disorder? Even just stress can make a huge dent in our libidos. Its going to take something like counseling and she really should get her hormone levels checked.

Bummed About Weight Gain After Plastic Surgery
Jachut replied to betheboo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, on the advice of my lap band surgeon I didn't unfill at all and I"m in trouble now - really ferocious heartburn and chest pain, I am living on 24 hour Zantac and Mylanta. I had a 0.2cc unfill yesterday (4cc band) which has made no difference at all, I'm really hoping I don't have to take ALL the Fluid out. I'm actually quite worried about my band - my port was moved and fiddled with and it makes you wonder. No doubt about it, plastic surgery is a major disruption to the banded life. I've not gained significantly but am at the highest point of my general swing - the disruption to my exercise schedule's been the killer for me - and I"m STILL not fully up to speed at 9 weeks post tummy tuck. I haven't touched a barbell yet, I'm just not ready to do that, and my running is greatly reduced. I think we have to focus on the benefits of what we've decided to undergo and realize that the weight effects can be tackled again later. Hang in there, you've lot it before and you will again. -
Oh, well for me it would be like a colonoscopy - the person doing the scope would be my surgeon so he would come and see me and tell me right away.

I took the micropore tape off today to change it and dared a look at the scar. So pleased with it, it is lovely and neat - you see so many scars that a very uneven and lack symmetry online. Its a very straight scar due to the lack of skin I had to work with, and again, i say that pics dont do it justice! My tummy is so much neater than it was, even though I am not a lot smaller. Given that I heal up well and my scars tend to lose their colour very quickly and stay flat, I dont think the height of this scar is going to be a big problem. Still quite significantly swollen too, so I am anticipating a lot more improvement in terms of muscle definition and slimness.

aren't you going to try unfilling completely and doing a few weeks on a liquid diet to shrink down the pouch? That's the standard treatment. As long as the band hasn't actually slipped, it will usually shrink. I think this is on the cards for me. Even as a band veteran of seven years I've fallen into this trap and well AFTER I'd lost all my weight and kept it off for years. I had to unfill totally for cancer surgery and when I refilled, I just couldnt get to a comfy spot. I've gotten WAAAAY too tight as we discovered when I was sent for a barium swallow but I couldn't feel that because of the slightly stretched pouch I'd developed. I stress I was not downing large quantities of food, but just not feeling my band. This was symptomless for ages, so my doc was happy to take a wait and see approach. Now, I've got awful heartburn and went today for a slight unfill, but several hours later, the ranitidine I'd taken yesterday was wearing off and back came the awful gnawing pain. I've taken more medication tonight but I really hope that it settles and I suspect I'm going to have to go back and have more taken out. Luckily, I don't get stuck, vomit or have any actual reflux of stomach contents, just pain.
-
I had to give in and take a Mylanta - its scarily painful and constant without it. Sigh. Like I couldn't just be freaking healthy for a while. Perhaps it will settle and not come back after this pill has worn off in 24 hours. Or I might just need a little more out.

Good news - my backless, newly invisible port was easily accessed today within a millisecond for an unfill (heartburn which I've had since the tt) -
Problem With Protein Shakes
Jachut replied to Scooby_Who's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is nothing special about any particular product, that's just your doctor pushing something he has a vested interest in. Buy elsewhere if you don't like them. I hate Protein shakes and never drank more than two or three. They're disgusting and man made and not a patch on real food in my humble opinion. They're not a part of my diet ever. And I lost weight just fine, have kept it off for five years and am not suffering from lack of muscle, hair loss or protein deficiency. -
Artificial sweeteners and highly liquid diets are a killer combo. I have this issue all the time - can't ever make it through a spin class - but for me its a result of bowel surgery, I have to live with it. I tell you what, its almost impossible to go all out in a spin class if you thin you're going to fart and you don't know if it'll have follow through. I have to slink out! Its really freaking annoying. I also have this issue when I run but less so. But when I do a fun run or other event, I take ammonium before hand. The runners trots happen to lots of people.

Nope, not me. Once or twice though, my hair has gone through a stage of being in really horrible condition and having increased fall. But I have never even approached what I would call hair loss. For me, the first time was about eighteen months after surgery (and six months after I'd had bio ionic straightening done). I was just working SO hard to keep it conditioned, it was dry, ratty and thin on the ends. I ended up cutting off all the hair that had been straightened. The next time was many years later, the condition didnt get as bad, but the fall increased again. I was having treatment for cancer, but the chemo I had didnt cause hair loss - for me it was rock bottom iron levels. Since then, I've struggled to keep my iron levels up and each time they fall too much - lots of breakage and fall out. My hair has never fallen out from the root- it breaks and thins out that way. But never noticeable noticeably so I get bald spots - just enough that hubby starts to go nuts at all the hair on the floor and all over the basin in the bathroom! So for me - iron is key to preventing hair problems. I've had a gazillion surgeries since my band surgery and dont lose hair after an anaesthetic.

Banded For Over 4 Years And I Have Struggled Since Day 1...it's Time For This Band To Be Removed!
Jachut replied to Lyse8432's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My thoughts are that you have had one of the most common complications - a slip - but that you have had no proper medical care for it! This is easily fixed - the band probably needs to be removed. Sometimes unfilling completely will fix a slipped band but it obviously hasnt in your case. I'm a bit baffled as to why your band doctor has not suggested this - have you even been back to him/her? This is why you need to see, not doctors in the emergency room. Often the band can simply be replaced at the time of removing the slipped one. And you could go on to have a text book perfect band experience. Or you could just remove and not replace it depending on how you feel about it. Having a band means developing a relationship with a surgeon and a clinic that will provide specialised care for you. If that's difficult or the surgeon is too far away or even in another country, that can really spell the difference between success and failure. And if you were unfilled by an inexperienced doctor in an emergency room, are you even sure that you HAVE been unfilled? I really urge you to find PROPER care.
