    Out patient gastric sleeve?

I had mine outpatient Nov. 2014. Surgery at like 8am and I was home by noon. Best decision I ever made to have it outpatient. I was up walking every 1-2 hrs for 15 min. This is the key!! Helps alleviate the gas they fill you with for surgery. I even set an alarm to remind me. Think of the germs you would otherwise be exposed to in a hospital setting. My surgeon performs the leak test before closing his patients up from surgery. I've currently lost 143 pounds. Drink your fluids, walk, and listen to your body!! Call your surgeon with any concerns after surgery. Good luck!!
  2. My mother has maintained a 150 pound weight loss following VSG five years ago. You can do it!! If she goes up five pounds she "diets" to get it off.

    Donate or Save Clothes

I've struggled with this myself after a 111 pound weight loss. What if I gain the weight back? What will I wear? My therapist has urged me for months to get rid of them. He says that I'm only giving myself an excuse to gain the weight back. This weekend I got rid of all of them except my biggest pair of jeans which I now can fit my whole body into one thigh (I kept them for picture reference). It was a freeing experience.

    Pretty fantastic NSV's

Congrats lady!! I can completely relate. I've always said my dream "size" is actually when I can pull on a pair of jeans and tee and not worry about muffin top or noticeable bulging. I just purchased a pair of 9/10 jeans and the best feeling was having no love handles showing from the back...lol

    Farewell My 140 Pound Friend

Your post deeply touched me in its cleverly raw telling of your personal journey. I've often said that the inability to eat at any (and in my old life) ALL whims after surgery, felt like "losing" my best friend. I believe your summarization is a more apposite description. Congrats and "RIP" Brandon!!!

    Any Georgia sleevers?

@@AllisonK1986 You can DEFINITELY lose 100+ pounds with the sleeve!! I'm 5'7 and have lost that much the first six months. I haven't been the perfect sleever, BUT I recognized what I needed to do to be successful for myself which included getting help with a therapist who specializes in Bariatric patients. It's not been easy. However, I would do it a thousand times over if need be. Also, I will caution that you can't compare yourself to other VSG'ers. I think everyone's post should come with a warning that "these results are not typical." Lol Otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy. I've been lucky and know the last 20 pounds are going to be hard to get to goal. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions regarding the process.

Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused

I eat 5 small meals a day (the first of every day is a Premiere Protein Shake). Two are mainly snaking items of cheese, jerky, and nuts. I'm almost 8 months out and down 109 lbs as of this morning.

    So I've noticed...

OMG!!! @@Elode You look MARVELOUS MAMA!!! I only read comments from my phone app and it limits what I see. I've been thinking about some of the posters around the time I had surgery the other day and how they're surviving. ???? So glad to hear of your success!! I too haven't been habitual about exercising, but trying to change my wicked ways. Lol Either way it still a lot of hard work. Congrats!!!
  11. I drink two cups of coffee daily and alcoholic beverages (mainly white wine, bloody Mary's, straight liquor or low calorie mixers) several times a month. 6.5 months out and have lost 104 pounds. I make sure to include the calories/carbs in my daily totals. Oh...and my surgeon warned me also of the possibility of alcohol being more "potent" after surgery. SO NOT TRUE FOR ME. I just like the taste. ????

    Eating

I could down a premier Protein shake only weeks after surgery. It's actually been a blessing and I think has helped get my protein in for weight loss. Currently I'm almost seven months out and down 104 pounds since surgery. I still drink a shake (in minutes) every day. ???? Edit...I'm "assuming" that you're implying 30 minutes is quick for drinking...lol I do remember days after surgery it taking hours for only ounces. Weeks post-op.. 30 minutes felt like I was drinking it fast.
  14. First off...hugs...the audacity of some people shouldn't surprise me at this point. You look great!!! AND continually inspire me in my VSG journey. I've been running now for about a month all because you did. Reading your blog gave me hope those first couple of months, along with my own therapist, on knowing that losing the weight with the right choices is attainable. When I was 100lbs heavier I was once compared to fat Amy by a stranger... it's horrifying to realizing that after possibly reaching my goal, I still could be continually judged. It's the society we live in. ????

    Diabetes and the Sleeve

I was diagnosed around the same age with diabetes. I started out with Met. During the next 15 years of being non-compliant and not taking care of myself, I ended up being insulin dependent. My body literally turned on me and with every pound I gained my health severely declined. By 38 years of age, I had cataracts in both eyes and the start of neuropathy, all diabetes related. I too had infertility issues (PCOS), mostly due to weight. I yo-yo'd with my weight over the years between 80 pounds and 3 pregnancies. I wish I'd considered weightloss surgery years ago!! It probably would have saved me a lot of money spent to my infertility clinic and heartache. The best thing you can do for yourself and future children is to be healthy. I had the surgery in November 2014. My surgeon told me to quit takings my meds the day of surgery and my glucose has been perfect since!! My last A1c was 4.2. I've lost 100 pounds since a week before surgery and 21 pounds to goal. I look and more importantly feel wonderful!! The cataract progression has slowed and the neuropathy has reversed itself. I love my new life and my only regret is not doing it sooner!!
