October 2014 sleevers check in please!
mjmboston replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@cornhusker WOW! Over 180 pounds in 7 months! That is amazing! Do you mind me asking how many calories a day you are eating and how much you are exercising? Congrats! -
@@SimplySue Congrats!! you look fantastic!

@@SimplySue Congrats on your progress that is awesome!! WOW! Curious are you eating the number of calories Dr. O'malley and team recommend? Liz at highland said I should be eating 1300-1500 calories which in my mind I think that is way too much. But I have been averaging around 900-1000 and only losing 1-2 pounds a week, which when I do the math (metabolic rate, calories in, calories out etc etc), I should be losing a lot more. Liz says to increase but when I do, nothing changes. Its a bit frustrating. Just curious since we have the same doc etc. @@bestisyettocome859 Congrats and welcome!

@@burtonbn I didn't have to do a pre-op diet either (other than the suggested healthy eating diet the NUT puts everyone on prior to surgery to make sure you are committed and educate you on healthy eating for those that don't know) . Just clear liquid diet the day before which is normal for almost any surgery. Doing great. I did start doing some shakes here and there ahead of time, to find out what I liked, which I would highly recommend. GOOD LUCK and Congrats on the date!!

@@smiranda I think every surgeon and ever insurance is different. I do know that I was recently (6 months prior to meeting with surgeon) diagnosed with it and my surgeon would not schedule the surgery until it was under control with medicine. I think that was a requirement of my insurance company (Excellus, part of BC/BS). I was lucky that just a few months on the meds and it came down to "normal levels". Good luck!

@@pansy63 Welcome! I am also 51 and have been overweight my entire adult life (lost and gained and lost and gained etc etc!). I was sleeved about 11 weeks ago, December 15th, and it was the best decision I made! I actually went back to work after one week! Now granted, I work in an office and am at my desk most of the day, but I was ready to go back. My surgeon basically said, it was up to me as long as I wasnt on pain medicine (I was only on that for a few days after surgery). Good luck and congrats on making the decision!

@@LainieG Congrats!! That is great news!

@@lynziv Congrats on your surgery. I am 3 weeks post-op today. I had the same kind of pain you are explaining, I think it was the gas they fill you up with, i never got the shoulder pain everyone talks about, mine settled in my pelvic area and had bad pain there, but it went away after the first week, or maybe even sooner. Congrats again on the start of your new journey!

@@SimplySue Congrts! That is so awesome!!! I can't wait until I can do that, I think I have been shopping in plus size for over 25 years! ugghhh But just something else to look forward to in the new year!

professional 52yo worried about perception of other members of upper management?
mjmboston replied to scared52yoguy!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@scared52yoguy! Good luck with everything. I agree with the others, hernia is the way to go! I am 51, upper management at a midsize company. I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. At first, I choose to only tell the CEO (my boss) and few few close friends at work, but I was back at work last week for a few days and told the rest of the exec team, i figured what the heck. Everyone is really supportive. But, I totally understand where you are coming from. Especially the worrying as surgery approaches, I was a bundle of nerves. But everything went great and I am sure it will for you too! Congrats on making this decision and GOOD LUCK!! -
@@SimplySue Thanks, I do like the unjury chicken soup. I meant to stop by the pharmacy at my post-op apt and forgot. I just ordered some online. But, Yippie......I have moved on to pureed! Although i can't eat much still, liquids goes down much easier but I am sure it gets better with time (I hope)! Only able to eat maybe 1/4 cup of pureed at a time.

Is 3 1/2 weeks too long for staples?
mjmboston replied to AJP1243's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AJP1243 I had my surgery the same day as you! I have 3 incisions and all have staples. I have my post-op follow up tomorrow and I thought I read that they will take out my staples then, but I could be wrong. How are you doing otherwise? I am so sick of these sweet Protein drinks I can't stand it anymore! I hope they move me to pureed tomorrow after my appointment. I am def not getting in enough protein or calories. Good luck with everything! -
Hi Everyone, I'm here too, just busy with surgery last week! Mine was on the 15th and feeling good. Still pretty sore and still have some gas but other than that great. Getting very sick of the shakes, they are all so sweet, never thought I would say I was sick of sweet stuff!!! . Gonna try some plain yogurt today and see how that goes. I know everyone is just busy with the holidays as well but very happy to still have this support! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! Martha

@@SimplySue Welcome to a fellow Western New Yorker! I postponed my surgery at Highland for work issues. It was supposed to be today (yikes!) and is now Monday December 15th.....3 weeks seems like forever!

Hi everyone, Wondering if there are any Rochester NY area sleevers out there? I am pre-op, scheduled to have surgery on November 24th at Highland with Dr. O'Malley. Would love to hear from others that are local. Thanks!

@@living55 Hi There, sounds like things are going well! My surgery date has moved. It was my doing, not my doctors. I have a huge project at work that was supposed to be completed by surgery and its not so i was able to push it to December 15th. A little disappointed I have longer to wait but this way I can relax after and not worry about work. Good luck on your post-op apt!

@@living55 Glad to hear you are doing ok! Keep me posted!

@@living55 How did it go? I hope you are doing well. Let me know!

@@onmywaytoonederland Welcome!! I am fairly new as well. Surgery was originally scheduled for November 24th but I had to reschedule. Its now the week of December 15th, still waiting on the exact date. But finally heard on Monday insurance was approved. I was told by the Doc don't worry about it, they always approve (BCBS) but I was still worried! Anyway, welcome! Looking forward to our journey!

@@living55 Hi there, for samples I went on to the various sites that people mention on here like bariatric pantry and Nashua Nutrition, also tryabouttime dot com which is all natural. BUt you do have to pay for the samples. Its just getting them in single servings so you can try them out. Good luck!

@@bellabill I don't mind at all, I lived in Burlington. Spent my entire career working for tech start-ups so Burlington was the perfect location! How about you? I moved there right after college with a few other friends and was there for 22 years. I really miss it but I get back a few times a year and always once in the summer to head down the cape for my annual cape vacation (Harwichport). All my closest friends still live there or other parts of New England (West Hartford, Darien, CT, Ogunquit, ME). @JALUVIC Welcome!
