    Would It Kill Me....

OhioGirl, I did really read your post, several times in fact... To me that sounds like you told her that she will be fine with doing what she's suggesting and to just not overdo it without her doctor's approval. But not overdoing it to her(if she is moving on to a stage she isn't supposed to be in yet) could still possibly have negative consequences. If this wasn't your intention when you wrote that, my apologies, but it seems as if a few other posters read your response the same way I did.

I am fairly new to the idea that the lap band

I posted this on your other exact thread you had on the intro board, but I'll post it here too in case you didn't see it. I have read your other posts now and see that she is the one who has initiated this interest, so I give you kudos for taking the time to want to learn as much about this as possible, the question is - is she doing the same? Once I decided this is what I wanted to do, I was on the internet every night after my son and husband were asleep researching as much as I could until I figured out how the band works, the risks, possible successes, etc. This still isn't knowing first hand but hopefully by mid-May I will be there. That's the thing about WLS, you can only read so much and then you just have to decide - either I'm doing it or not. Again, I know the struggles of being once fairly athletic (softball, swim team) and then hitting your mid to late 20's having a baby and your body going downhill. I'd do it all over again in a second for my son, but there comes a point when you do decide that you have to take care of yourself too and hopefully your wife has reached that.

    Help!!!!

Surf the net for all I can about how much the lapband will help me :rolleyes2:
  4. Two things: Your wife should be the one on here asking these questions (I won't tell you how annoyed I would be if my husband was on the internet trying to find a solution to my weight problem); and secondly (and maybe this has already taken place) you and your wife should be having this conversation, not you with a bunch of strangers on the internet. I haven't been banded yet but, it is my decision, my body, my problem. It would do me no good for my husband to be the one doing the research, I'm the one reading up on everything and the one coming to the conclusion if this is or isn't what I need or if it will or won't help me. One last thing, if I got the feeling that my husband was watching my every move with my eating habits and jotting down notes (figuratively speaking of course) about what my downfalls are as far as food, hell that would probably make me eat it all the more out of spite (not a healthy attitude but maybe you can understand what I'm trying to say). Maybe I interpreted your whole post wrong but you are her husband not her father, she has to want this and be willing to do the research on her own also if she is a big girl and wants this done. Good luck to you and your wife, whatever the outcome.

    Would It Kill Me....

Ohiogirl, you probably need to go back and read this entire thread (or again if you have already).
  6. Am I the only one that has the feeling that everytime he says "more on that subject later..." or "more to come later..." is setting us up to try to buy something from him? I mean he keeps stating more or less how he's finally figured out the secret to weight loss without surgery and keeping it off but more on that later (Where you can buy my whole program for just $99.99/month!) I sure hope this is a farce and you're not facing possible death from surgery complications in a month. If you are so concerned about everyone here and future lapband patients - come clean with the whole story and all the details now, not anymore of this - more to come later crap.
  7. Good for you, I hope I didn't come off to harshly - everyone deserves to come through this operation strong and healthy :). Good luck to you!!!

  8. I'm trying to figure out how you've gotten 3 fills already at only 5 weeks out. I thought most docs made you weight at least until weeks 4-6 for the first fill?
  9. Ooh, do I really get to look forward to losing 20 pounds in two weeks?
  10. Would this be a good thing to try before starting a low carb diet or liquid diet? You know to maybe get rid of some bloatedness (is that a word?) before starting a major weight loss effort pre-surgery? Thanks in advance!

    Want Procedure...No Support

I think it would be a hard thing to hide from him once you are at your right restriction if you went through with it or had any problems like stuck episodes, etc., unless he will be overseas, etc. I'm sorry but your marriage sounds pretty one sided, does he make all the decisions?
  12. I'm sorry, but that's the crappiest piece of logic I've heard in a while.
  13. It would be if this is your initial consult.

    Help,anyone?

Are you asking if you can avoid not having to quit smoking for two weeks beforehand? Not to sound harsh, but if the doctor you are going to says you gotta do, just suck it up and do it. I read on here yesterday about someone who decided they didn't need to or couldn't quit smoking before their surgery, lied to their doctor about it and went into cardiac arrest three times on the operating table. It's two weeks out of your life, I guess you need to ask yourself if it's worth it to you or not. Good luck in your decision.

    Want Procedure...No Support

My husband used to be in the marine corp. and my weight was never a sore spot and he was in great shape. I think it is more your husband's personality then being a marine/navy guy. I would let him know how much you sacrificed your body to give him four beautiful children and it's just not that easy to always workout and lose weight, otherwise, the whole world would be thin. I'm sorry he is so unsupportive, maybe if you let him know you would be watching what you ate and working out but the band is a tool that would help you actually lose more and keep it off this time. Good luck, I hope he comes around, if not you still need to do what's best for you!
  16. Uh...22 pounds in 20 days? I'd say you were doing exceptional, congrats!

Did the OP ever come back?
  19. Classic! Why do you have to be bitchy and hormonal, if another guy had said that to him, he would just have been being assertive!

    1-Day Post Op-need encouragement

You know Mommi, I was going to tell you to maybe lay off, but then I read through her other posts and saw what a silly little twit she seems to be.

    Limboland...

What did those of you already banded do when you were in "limboland"? That's the place I'm calling it when I've started the process of getting approved for the lapband, but my preliminary tests aren't until next week, I still don't have the letter of support from my PCP and I don't have approval from my insurance nor a surgery date. So basically, I have no idea when I might be having surgery/ While I'm not really kidding myself that I'll lose weight right now, I'm trying not to gain either. I know my insurance does not require a physician monitored diet (or any diet) ahead of time. My surgeon has a low carb/high Protein diet to follow two weeks before surgery, but who knows when that will be. We are leaving for vacation tomorrow to Orlando for 6 days and then the day after we get back is when I have the psych eval and some other test (still not really sure what kind of test). I was told that since I have BCBS and I'm using a Center of Excellence, BCBS pretty much gives prior authorization for the surgery within a few days of the test results being submitted. So who knows, maybe actual surgery could be anywhere from 1 month to 2 months out. I'm sorry, I guess I'm rambling. I know I should start some form of diet/exercise now but with vacation coming up I'm not sure what to do. We'll be doing Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure so we should be getting in a fair amount of walking and I'm going to try not to over do it with eating while there and while traveling (we are driving from NC). I guess I was just hoping to hear others have gone through and gotten through this period of unknown and come out banded okay and ready to lose weight. Again, sorry for the incessant babbling and thanks for letting me go on  Heather
