Hello,
My name is Heather. I have been heavy basically my whole life. I tried everything to loose weight and some things worked but only for a short period of time causing me to gain more weight that what I started with. I have always had weight loss surgery in the back of my mind and never could afford it. Never had the insurance to cover it.
I got married April 2014 and was curiously looking through my husbands insurance information and saw that weight loss surgery was covered 100%!! So I decided to jump on the chance! My insurance required me to see a nutritionist 1 time a month for 3 months. Plus I had to see a psychiatrist and a cardiologist , get and ultrasound of my Gaul bladder, and get blood work. I saw my Doctor in July of 2014 and had my surgery October 2014. I was not required a waiting period nor to loose weight first by my insurance. I was put on a 2 week liquid diet by my surgeon pre-op and lost 12lbs. probably would of been more if I had done the whole 2 weeks like I was supposed to.
Your wondering what I mean by that right? Well, I was given my surgery date 1 before the date. and one week before surgery all hell broke loose! My primary care physician decided that he was against me (and anyone for that matter) having surgery. He sent a clearance for the surgery but made it clear in his notes that he wasn't supportive of it. So my surgeons office decided to cancel my surgery. It was the Friday before my surgery and I had been on the liquid diet a week and 3 days. I was naturally very upset, and was very hungry so I went and ate!! I tried to make healthy choices that Friday and throughout the weekend. Monday I got a call from my surgeons office saying that my surgery was approved and asked if I was still on the liquid diet and I told them I wasn't... They said it was okay, I just needed to start back on it, So I did and 2 days later I had my surgery. (the same date I had been told a month prior)
