How does the sleeve FEEL? How does it work?
pippinleicester replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had a band which slipped and now a sleeve.I find with the sleeve that I feel a much stronger sense of restriction in fact I find it impossible to overeat. If I eat one spoonful more than I should the feeling is most uncomfortable and I just throw up the whole meal so it is something you very quickly learn not to do.I am so happy with the sleeve,at last I feel in charge of my eating and have found no downside.Pippinleicester. -
Sleeve 5 days ago and NOT hungry!
pippinleicester replied to Cyr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me to concentrate on fluids at first and not worry too much about protein as the fluids were vital.Like you I didn`t feel hungry but made sure I got my liquids. When my stomach had healed more I found I could get more protein in.Best wishes Pippinleicester. -
Pre-op Questions I'm Pondering (I Need YOUR Input)
pippinleicester replied to His Fairest's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would most certainly have it done again knowing what I know now.I know I have been very very lucky,I never even had gas pain.I have had about 10 surgeries in my life and this was definitely the most pain-free.I could have done cartwheels out of the hospital on the 2nd day.I know this is not the same for a lot of people so as I say I have been very lucky. The only food I have had a problem with is chicken but I will try again later because I love chicken.Best wishes Pippinleicester. -
I am the same, have been able to drink normal amounts since day 2.I even rang surgeon to find out if this was normal and he said fine.Pippinleicester.

Well it depends on your surgeon. In the UK where I live the advise seems to be different from the US.My doctor and dietician were fine with me having coffee the day after surgery. In fact I was advised to enrich it with skimmed milk powder for the protein.I would advise you to ask your doctor.Pippinleicester.

Pre op and terrified!
pippinleicester replied to Rosie77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Please try to stop worrying, think of all the thousands of people who have gone before you.I can only tell you about my own experience.I can honestly say i had only discomfort and no pain,I know some people have complications but the whole experience went like a dream for me and I was back at work in 10days.I was very worried as I had a terrible experience with a gastric band with plenty of complications though again I know some people don`t.I am 66years old and thought I would be off my feet for a lot longer. Please get in touch if you are still worried.Pippinleicester -

I need some encouragement
pippinleicester replied to gmacy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having juice but not shop bought fruit juices as they have a lot of calories. If you have a juicer try spinach or kale with cucumber then I like to add an apple or some carrots to sweeten it a little and perhaps some fresh ginger which is great for the digestion and some lemon, but just play around until you get something you like(beetroots are excellent) that way you get all the vitamins and trace elements from the veg.Pippinleicester -
I need some encouragement
pippinleicester replied to gmacy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am 8 weeks out and have lost 32 pounds and I thought I was doing well.I would be cock-a-hoop if I had lost 60lbs.I am told that it takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1lb in weight. So you just can`t be losing 1lb a day even if you starved yourself . Relax and enjoy the journey you sound as if you are doing just fine.Best wishes.Pippinleicester. -

Questions: Hip Pain and Cookbooks?
pippinleicester replied to empelky93's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just wonder if you are perhaps taking more exercise or walking more than you used to and that might be the reason for your sore hip.Best wishes.Pippinleicester. -
Can someone help me out? Drinking water isn't easy...
pippinleicester replied to Anthony DeCastro's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that any liquid was just fine it did not have to be water so that any tea or coffee I drank counted. Also the protein drinks I could stomach I could only do so if I mixed the ready made drinks blended with equal volumes of ice.My dietician told me that this also counted as liquid as did any no sugar fruit squash.Once I stopped obsessing about forcing water down I was quite easily able to drink the required amount of liquid.Pippinleicester -
Surely this corpse can at last be declared dead.Amen.

Just for fun: Share your most embarrassing plastic surgery moments
pippinleicester replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have never had plastic surgery but i recently had surgery for a compound fracture of my arm and a reconstruction of my elbow. After surgery I was in a lot of pain and this added to the fact I was in a very busy orthopaedic trauma ward meant I had no sleep for 3 nights. On the 4th night a very kind nurse pulled the screens around my bed to make me feel like I was in my bedroom. She gave me another dose of morphine (with the doctors permission of course) after the first didn`t relieve the pain.I was so grateful for her kindness i sank into a deep sleep. The next thing I remember I woke up in the DEEP END, I PEE`D THE BED.I never felt more ashamed in my life when this lovely lady who had been so kind had to come and change all of the bed and wash and change me as her reward.I still blush now when I think of it.Pippinleicester -
Hi 12thman,I had sleeve surgery on 17th nov 2014 about 18months after having my band removed.I am almost 66 years old and completely understand your fears. The only way I could calm my fears was to tell myself that every time I get in my car to drive i am taking a much greater risk of death than ever I was with surgery.I can honestly say that it has all gone like a dream.I was back at work full time after only 10 days.I had no pain, just mild discomfort and felt sick for only one day.In fact I found the preop diet the hardest thing.I absolutely love having the sleeve and am finding I am satisfied with such small amounts of food it is just WONDERFUL.Don`t worry you will be fine.Best wishes.Pippinleicester.

Gratitude - what are you thankful for?
pippinleicester replied to CrazyJaney's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am so grateful that at only 2 months after surgery I can already move about so much more easily and don`t groan when I get up from my armchair.I am so glad that my insides feel so much `CLEANER` without all the carbs I used to stuff myself with.I love to wake up in the morning feeling better every day.I am so grateful I did not have to ask for a larger uniform at work (though pretty soon I will definitely need a smaller one).I am so glad that tomorrow I feel fit enough to go to my local fitness centre to do aqua-robics. But most of all I am so grateful I have found support on this site and have managed to navigate my way around it without getting embroiled in any of the controversy.Pippinleicester. -
just discovered I can block posts from people who`s opinion I don`t want to hear.Everyone has an opinion but I don`t have to read it if I choose not to. Hoorah Pippinleicester!!

Band to Sleeve - years apart
pippinleicester replied to zimazoom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band removed through slippage and after about 18months i had my sleeve. My surgeon was expecting scar tissue and said he might have to do a bypass because of this.In fact he said there was no scarring and was fine to do a sleeve.Good luck Pippinleicester. -
I week post op has anyone tried Coffee yet?
pippinleicester replied to hootney1214's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have been drinking coffee since day 2 and not the de-caffe type.My surgeon is fine with it and i have had a trouble free recovery back to work after 10 days, and no pain or sickness.I guess it just depends on your surgeon.I am 65 years old and still working full-time.This surgery has been heaven sent for me.Pippinleicester. -
Gagging through protein shake
pippinleicester replied to DroppinLikeItsHot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found that i can drink the pre-mixed drinks when blended with lots of ice, it waters them down so that they are less sickly sweet and thick. This also means you are getting the ice down as fluid meaning you are killing two birds with one stone.Pippinleicester. -
Horrible eating over Christmas
pippinleicester replied to mcginn0425's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi,I am only 4 weeks sleeved so really could not eat over Christmas as still on purees. I visited my son yesterday and he is always really slim and fit, he cycles for miles and watches his diet.Well he was saying that due to to no exercise and overeating over Christmas he has put on 8 pounds, but he just shrugged and said a week without carbs and restarting exercise it will be gone.So you see that this is quite normal for slim people in fact he said he also has a summer weight and a winter weight which i never knew, to me he always looks just nice and slim.So don`t beat yourself up for putting on weight over Christmas, just make up your mind that you will get back in the groove in the next couple of weeks just like millions of normally slim people.Happy new year.Pippinleicester. -

Is there anyone from UK
pippinleicester replied to craftycaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not weighing myself as i am sick of being a slave to the scales.I am waiting until i go for my hospital check-up.I know most people would be gagging to find out how much they had lost but i am determined to hold on.My clothes are much bigger and i get around much easier so i think i have lost a couple of stones.Pippinleicester
