Other Peoples Opinions

Unsolicited Advice. Thoughts? I once had someone say to me “If you stopped drinking soda you’d lose weight.” Now let’s break that down. First of all, we had just left a Water park and not once did I say “got any advice on losing weight?” Therefore, once can assume several things but let’s err on the side of caution. Let’s assume this friend noticed something about my actions that day that suggested I am uncomfortable with my body. Can I point out 95% of the people at that park probably felt the same way? But that’s beside the point. So let’s assume this unsolicited advice is their attempt to help you solve something that is obviously bothering you. What is your response to that? We just came from a water park screw you for mentioning my faults. It’s diet soda and if you had half a brain you’d know besides slightly expanding your tummy and the sodium and chemicals inside the drink no one ever got fat on diet soda but rather the 3 doughnuts and pizza may be the culprit? And why is unsolicited advice always so blunt? What if, God forbid, you said to a friend it seems your weight concerns you, or your relationship or your family or your job or your financial situation, would you mind if I tried to help? Would you mind if I shot some ideas your way but in no way or terms do I think I’m superior or have all the answers? Would you mind if I tried to help even if you took it the wrong way? Are you open to suggestions? food for thought. (pun intended).- 7 replies

I'm done telling folks. They don't get it
Stephanie Salsera Perrott replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. I'm an extremely open person and of course what comes along with that is sharing my life and decisions. I have to say I've been blessed to received either tons of support and people saying they'll be at the hospital to cheer me on, a few that are concerned it's "dangerous" and to "be careful" (my thought was tell my surgeon to be careful, I'm going to be asleep lol) and a couple not many maybe two that said you can do it on your own you don't need this which my response is when you've lost over 5,000lbs in your life and gain over 5,000lbs in your life then you can talk. This is not a lack of effort. But I say it with a smile and tell them agreed or not you're still coming to the hospital which they always say of course. Therefore my message to you all is: "You know, you do need mentors, but in the end, you really just need to believe in yourself." Diana Ross -
United Healthcare UHC 6 Month Motivated Attempt
Stephanie Salsera Perrott posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone! My first post!! Please help a newbie out here's my question: During United Healthcare's UHC 6 month "motivated" attempt what happens if you gain weight? I started Oct 15th 2014 and have weighed in a total of 4 times so far with two more times to go. I've gained around 2lbs every time I weighed in this is mostly do to a month long sinus infection then influenza (the flu) the next month therefore I've basically been sick this whole time. And yes, unlike some people I eat when I'm sick. A lot lol. Anyway net gain 7lbs I have two more months of weigh in and yes I'm trying to lose the 7 I gained but did I mess up? Thanks!!!- 3 replies

Hope you feel better! I like what the guy said about saying what's on your mind. Can't they give you morphine through IV? -
