I'm scheduled for next week. I'm nervous too. I guess I'm getting the pre surgery jitters. I was so confident about this then BOOM I got a date and began second guessing myself. I know it's just nerves though so I'm sticking to what I was planning before my brain and emotions started to go haywire. :-) See you on the other side of the scale!

Congratulations! I'm not too far ahead of you. Mine is June 3rd, just one week to go. -
Short Sleevers?
cantseemytoes replied to MarceMonster's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great question! I'm 5'2" (on a good day) and was wondering about that too. I was 310 at HW, and I'm 266 now with my surgery being next Wednesday, 6/3. I haven't discussed expectations personally with the surgeon, but during the classes I took they said you could realistically loose @60% of your excess weight with th w sleeve. So if I'm 140 lbs overweight, that's somewhere @ 80lbs (sorry not very good at math) means I'll end up @ 186lbs. I'd prefer to be lower than that so I plan on working out alot. Either way though, it's a win! Being the "ideal" weight is m or the only measure of success after something like this. I just want to be able to go into an average store and head to the regular sizes and buy a cute dress. -
One week away!
cantseemytoes replied to cantseemytoes's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hang in there. My requirements began with an orientation meeting that led to 12 weeks of classes (once a week). Yes 12 WEEKS! Plus it was extended by 2 weeks because we started right before thanksgiving and had 2 days off due to the holidays. Then meeting with Drs, sleep apnea study, psych eval, more Drs, PCP final approval, meet with the surgeon, and it's finally here! It'll come. Just takes time. -

What's the first food you cheated with after Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
cantseemytoes replied to NoBsVs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there are many vegan Protein shakes that use wither hemp protein or ben protein etc. these are lactose free and a godsend to people who have lactose issues. You can find many of them online or your local Vitamin shoope or Vitamin Shoppe online. Good luck! Try Sprouts. They carry many vegan and vegetarian Protein Shakes. -
To tell or not?
cantseemytoes replied to choosehope's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
At first I told only my husband, but I knew I'd tell my mom and sister early on. I told them very soon afterwords. My sister was very excited, my mother was very concerned but, as always, supportive. I didn't tell my dad and brother until I was at the end of the process and just waiting to schedule surgery. They were surprisingly very supportive. I kept going back and forth about telling coworkers because I haven't been at my current job for very long. It came up in a group discussion and I ended up mentioning to my walking partner that I was thinking about it and I answered all her questions. We never talked about it again, until this morning when I mentioned that I'd be out for 3 weeks and she said "so you decided to do it." I don't think she'll say anything, but part of me wishes she didn't know. At the same time, part of me want to tell all my coworkers because I'd rather they hear from me than speculate behind my back. (I worked with someone that had obviously had surgery but tried to pretend she didn't) I'm 2 weeks away from surgery. I've decided to not tell anyone about it for now; however, I will be open and honest with anyone that asks about it either before or after surgery. -

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
cantseemytoes replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. I have been reading these posts for 2 weeks and still can't figure out how to start my own topic, so I will use this "June" Sleevers to ask my questions and get the June Sleevers to give me some vision. So... I have been to one appointment which was the introduction, then medical evaluation. At this 1st appointment, March 25, they already knew that I had coverage and told me what my cost would be. They scheduled me for a follow up which will be my psych, nutritionist, blood work, etc and my second weight loss appt. My 3rd visit is my final weight loss visit and my pre-op visit. I am still doing some of the requirements ie; cardiologist, Endoscopy, chest xray, etc. Then my surgery will be 3-4 weeks after. My insurance had to have a 3 year history of obesity, which my PC doctor has now provided. And I qualify for that. I read @@Seahawkgirl that you had 6 months to get to be a June Sleever, but I have only had 1 month so far. I wonder if this is going to fast?Tonight I went out to dinner with my grown kids and husband. I sat there thinking about what I will be doing after the sleeve. Probably 1 lettuce wrap, that would be it. Tonight I drank 4 glasses of iced tea, ate 2 lettuce wraps, a cup if wonton soup, and ate 1/2 of a portion of sweet and sour chicken and rice. What will I do while everyone else eats and we were there 2 hours. Sorry, so many question. But thank you for the help![/quote You will be eating alot slower, waiting about 1/2 an hour after eating before you drink anything, and wondering how could everyone eat soooo much. But most importantly, you will be enjoying time with your family. :-) -

I met with Dr. Murali and did my psych on 3/31. I was called to schedule with Dr. Chin, the surgeon, at the end of April. But again, that was because they never sent Dr. Murali's request for final authorization to my primary care physician. In the end they rushed scedulibg my appointment with Dr. Chin because I told them it was delayed because of them. I met with Dr. Chin this Tuesday and he asked if I had a preference of dates and worked with my work schedule. So I'm scheduled for June 3rd. My classmate, on the other hand, saw the doctor and had her psych mid March and met with Dr. Chin a couple of weeks later. She was sleeved May 6th. So for her it was one month from psych to surgery. For me 2 because of their mistake. If you haven't been called to schedule the meeting with the surgeon within 2 weeks after meeting with doctor Turner, you should call them. Good luck! -
Kinda scared and excited at the same time
cantseemytoes replied to pmed069's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm excited, but scared out of my mind! So many thoughts going through my mind I can't keep them straight. I know I need to and want to do this, but I can't help second guessing myself. Like I said excited, but scared and that's perfectly ok. -
My doctor didnt, but I started a 1200 calorie diet in January and I've lost @28 lbs. I asked him about the pre op liquid diet and he said it's not necessary as long as I continue to eat only 1200 calories per day and do all clear liquids the day before.

I finish my classes with Kaiser Fontana on February 27th. My surgery is scheduled for June 6th, but that's only because the final approval slipped through the cracks and didn't get requested from my pcp until I called for an update (check with them if you don't hear from the in 2 weeks). One of my classmates had surgery on May 6th. They told us that it would have been sooner, but the woman in charge on scheduling was on vaca for a week. So for that area, if everything goes well, it should be about 8-10 weeks for surgery. Just remember to call them if everything goes silent for 2 weeks because you don't want to get lost in limbo. -
I'm a June 3rd sleeve too! My surgeon said to plan on 3 weeks, which is what I told my job. He said some people need more, but 3 weeks is average.

I've been reading so many posts on here that I finally got up the courage to post my own story. I'm 5'2" and 39 yr old with 40 ready to break down my door next month. I was not an overweight kid. I was active and ate the very common Hispanic dinner of chicken, rice and Beans every night. My mother did not spend money on chips, soda, or eating a fast food places. I gained about 10 lbs at the end of high school when I dropped the dance team and got a job at mcdonals. Then I gained the "freshmen 15", then I started going out with friends alot, then I started dating my husband and before I knew what happened I had gone from 120 to 200. 15 years and 3 kids later, I ballooned to 310lbs at my heaviest. I've managed to get down to @270 lbs since then. My issue is.... am I just being vain? I don't have any of the medical issues that plague most people at my weight (yet). I've even done 5k walks to raise money for various causes, mudruns, and the Avon 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Most people say they want surgery to help with medical issues, but I just want to feel confident with myself. I know the surgery will help avoid future issues, but are my current motives wrong? The doctors say it's good for me to do this now, before anything serious comes up, but I feel guilty because there are so many people that have serious medical problems.

Teachamy my family says it's my stubbornness that got me through those walks and mud runs. Plus they're fun so I love to do them. But I have to admit, I'd like to be able to run a 5k, maybe even a half marathon. -

Thanks everyone. Yours responses put a smile on my face and strengthened my resolve to do this. Yes I'm nervous, but with the support of my family, I know I can succeed. I'm just waiting for the pre op appt with the surgeon to schedule the date of my surgery and I'm ready to go. I just needed the pep talk y'all gave me. :-) -

Thanks AvaFern. Everyone in my prep classes had major health issues and I was starting to feel alone. When was your surgery? How are you doing now? What was it really like? -
