If you weren't obese "all" of your life, what is it that caused you to become obese ?
My Bariatric Life replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@terrydumont46 I completely relate to your story. And I am so glad that I finally has WLS. I had htought about it for several years and was afraid to do it. I even backed out of the surgery the first time. I am sure that I would be dead today without it. I was a hot mess. Now I am a hot miss, LOL, just kidding. I feel so much more alive today at 50 yo compared to what I felt like at 35 and weighing 285 with several comorbid diseases. -

@@IcanMakeit @amponder @pink dahlia we have similar stories. I was not quite as active as you in high school. but I absolutely swam and worked out. Then I got into a car accident and could not exercise. And I got depressed so I ate too many carbs. I gained 30 pounds by my wedding. Then came pregnancy and another 60 pound weight gain. And I gained more and more from awful eating habits. It was like being in quicksand and sinking more and more. I was over my head and opted for gastric bypass as a last resort. It saved my life. -

@@Mommabird I also developed many obesity-related diseases. Landing in the hospital for a 4 day staycation and a diagnosis of diabetes and hypertension at the age of thirty-something was the wake-up call that I needed. It was shortly after that that I had gastric bypass. Good luck on your journey! -

@@Keeper I always knew that I was a carb addict. But it was not until I did the Whole 30 program this Spring that I realized I am a sugar addict. And as you probably know, carbs turn to sugar in the body, so by strictly managing my sugar intake I was able to control -- control by a lot -- my hunger, and therefore achieve weight loss. I follow a Paleo diet now and have learned to listen to my bidy and understand hunger queses. What I have learned is that even something as begnine and good for you as roasted coconut juice will trigger the sugar craving / hunger game. Nor can I eat gluten free foods. Even one wrap a day over the course of only a few days shows up as a several pound weight gain for me. So the solution for me was to follow Paleo. It really is nice not to be hungry constantly! -

@@lisacaron research shows that many processed foods are engineered to make us crave more. that food scientists actually sat in a lab to figure out the precise levels of salt and fats and sugars to make our bodies addicted to processed foods and eat more. @@Julie norton @@☠carolinagirl☠ true the bariatric surgery is not the easy way out. it takes hard work and dedication to changes those long-ingrained thoughts and behaviors that led us to become M.O. in the first place. When I had my gastric bypass some 11-years ago, there were none of the support systems and education from a treatment team (nutritionist, psychologist, etc) to help a patient succeed. The surgeon told me, "I do the surgery. The rest is up to you." -

Tummy tuck scars - can u share your pic?
My Bariatric Life replied to Bluesea71's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
You may view my tummy tuck scars at 3-mos and 6-mos post op in my flickr photo album. And you may view my LBL scars at various stages in another of my flickr albums. Now that I am a year out they are much lighter but I don't have any updated photos. The back of my LBL scar is much thinner and lighter than the front of the LBL scar. My surgeon (Joseph Capella MD) told me that they will turn white eventually. We shall see; they have lightened a lot from what you will see in those photo albums. I have scars on every part of my body from plastic surgery. Before I went through with it, I was so VERY scared about having them. I think I asked my surgeon two or three times why he had to cut me so much, once I was in tears. I truly was afraid that I would pass out the first time I saw my body looking like Frankenstein, especially with the pie crust incision he does, -- I had everything done at once, so there was no getting used to the scars; it was like jumping into cold Water. But as it turns out, when I awoke from surgery I was not horrified by them. They don't really bother me. There was once early on when I was in a bathing suit at the gym and I felt self conscious alongside the college girls with my scars. But they are much lighter now and I have body confidence that I did not have before. So they're not so bad. I'll take them over the fat and skin, that is for sure. You can always opt for laser treatments to lighten them if they really bother you. PS I did not do any scar therapy -- no tapes, no oils, no creams, etc. I don't know if they would have made a difference by my surgeon did not believe they would and that they were a waste of money. -
