On my way to the hospital ????????????
yungshi replied to yungshi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Update! I had to stay an extra night at the hospital bc of my white blood cell count. I took another set of labs around 5:30 so I should going home soon. Pain was very very very minimal. Only thing I can really say that bothered me was the getting up out the bed and laying back down. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers!!! -
So my surgery is tomorrow and I'm sooo anxious! Today I can't have any solids.. Only sugar free liquids. I'm going to try to sleep through it if I get hungry. I refuse to mess this up! A couple of nights ago I watched the gastric sleeve being done on YouTube and honestly, it didn't bother me much at all. Except the long tube they put down your throat. I'm really excited right now but I'm sure tomorrow will be a whole new story lol. I'm still waiting for the hospital to call me and tell me what time to be at the hospital! Another update coming tomorrow morning!

Hey yall! So I was just wondering what kind of protein shakes yall use. I started off with the premier protein shakes but decided to switch over to body fortress super advanced whey protein powder. I switched bc the premier protein just was too chocolatey for me. If anyone uses powder, what do you mix it with? I mixed mine with whole milk, but I'm not sure if that's allowed after the surgery... I have my surgery next Friday so I started drinking the protein shakes again today to get me in the habit.

My NUT told me that Protein shake was ok so I guess I'll stick to it. I'm just dreading this liquid stage for two weeks post op. Are you going to be taking the chewable bariatric Vitamins?

So I've been creeping on this website since around May, just reading posts and comments. But now, that I've gotten approved, I decided it was time for me to share my journey! Ok, so I'm only 19, from the New Orleans area, and my surgeon is none other than Dr. Lavin. I started this journey in June. I have aetna so I had to go through the 3 month supervised visits with the NP & NUT. Let me just say, Dr. Lavin's staff is AMAZING! Makes you feel completely comfortable. Anyways, I was worried I wasn't going to get approved because in August, I gained 2.4 pounds and aetna usually denies you if you have a gain. But on my last checkup I had lost 6 pounds, so that was good. I ended up calling aetna about two weeks after all my info was sent in and they told me they had just approved me that morning...yay! I went back in to have my consultation with Dr. Lavin and got all my paperwork to bring with me to the private hospital where I'm having the surgery done. My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 14th! So excited! Going renew my gym membership next week also. I'm so determined and ready for this change! I currently weight 235 and my goal weight is 130-140, so I can have a healthy BMI.

Anyone from Slidell, LA having gastric sleeve and have Aetna?
yungshi replied to muffin70043's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh yes! You definitely qualify with all of those health problems. Aetna most likely will approve you since you have high blood pressure & diabetes. Good luck! -
Ok so I've been watching this thread and I just feel that if you're going to state your opinion, beliefs, whatever...do it in a respectable manner. Calling other's decisions "BS" is not respectable at all. I agree, there are some people out there who are more open than others...I'm not that type of person. I like to keep my business to myself, BUT if I see someone who can benefit from my story, I'll tell it, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'll let them know. But I'm not just gonna be an open book to anyone who wants to read me. I come from a pretty large family...literally. And I feel as though they wouldn't be as supportive as they should because they'll feel like I'm better than them in a sense. And it's not that at all, I just want to make myself healthier and happier. So for that reason, I have only told a select few about my surgery. And if I see someone in my family who would really benefit from my story, I would tell them. So no I'm not ashamed that I'm having this surgery, I'm more excited than anything. I'm just cautious of who I tell because I don't want to hear the backlash.

And also, Aetna requires you to have a BMI greater or equal to 40. -

I'm from the New Orleans area and my surgery is scheduled for November 14th with Dr. Lavin. I have Aetna. I started the process in June. I had to have a 3 month supervised visit with the NUT & NP, provide my highest weights from two years ago, have a sleep study, and a psych evaluation. Aetna is pretty strict about gaining weight... So on my second to last visit I gained 2-3 pounds and I was terrified I was gonna be denied. But on my last visit I had went down 6 pounds. Two weeks after they sent in all of my paperwork, I was approved. -
Aetna...What did you do to get approved?
yungshi replied to dede0314's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hey! First off, congratulations on even making the decision to go through with the surgery.I have aetna and I got approved in September. My surgery is scheduled for November. With aetna they required a 3 month supervised visit with the NUT & NP. I started that in June. I also had to provide my highest weights from two years ago, have a psych evaluation, which was the most boring thing ever, and a sleep study. Aetna'so policy states that you can't have a net gain...AT ALL. So when I had a weight gain of about 2-3 pounds I wanted to give up. My NUT told me they would write an explanation in my reports for that weight gain. My sleep study test came back negative...which was a bittersweet thing. My only real health issue was that I was borderline diabetic and that I had been overweight pretty much my whole life. I surprisingly got approved about two weeks after all my paperwork was sent in. So Aetna isn't always the big bad wolf lol. Good luck! -
Good luck to you also!
