    You look fabulous! Congratulations!
  2. Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for sharing your story, I am so sorry this has happened to you! My heart is breaking for you. to have someone do this to you while you are at you're most vulnerable is actually horrific. I am glad you are seeking a therapist to help you through this, you need to stay healthy. @@Threetimesacharm, I am glad she has told her story, others need to know the risks when making their decision. There is nothing anyone can do to fix this situation. Once you have been sexually assaulted it cannot be taken back and will require therapy to get past. Her waiting for someone to respond will do no good to "resolve" anything. She was sexually assaulted. Take it from someone who had it happen to them as a young girl. This just does not go away without help and others need to know so it never happens again. Do you really think she gave herself an std that has been confirmed to have just occurred? As far as her sharing her story and your fear of it stopping all travel to Mexico for surgery. I am glad your experiences have been good ones however I would want to know so I can make the best decision for both my physical and mental health.

How did you deal with hair loss?

I also have gotten all my Protein in, Vitamins and take 10,000mg Biotin daily. My labs are all perfect. I am going through menopause so that could be adding to it. Mine started falling out within 8 weeks post op, got really bad from month 4 to month 11 and now it has slowed but is still coming out. I had very heavy thick, course hair thank goodness. It simply she'd like crazy, I have no bald spots but it is definately thin and you can see my scalp but it is not horrible. It really is a crap shoot whether or not it will effect you,

What Staples Are in Your Pantry?

In my pantry I have canned tuna, canned white meat chicken, good quality beef and chicken stocks for cooking, beef jerkey, pistachios, mixed nuts, oatmeal, cream of wheat (not the instant kind), good quality jarred marinara, lots of spices, balsamic, rice wine vinegar, almond flour to use for breading chicken or fish, lots of parmesean cheese also used for breading and to top salads, Peanut Butter and honey crisp apples, real butter, skim milk and lots of premier Protein shakes. Also in the beginning I had unsweetened applesauce and small cans of fruit with no sugar like peaches and pears. Now that I can eat fresh fruit I usually go that route. I removed all processed foods from my household. In the beginning I removed all rice, Pasta, and all other starches. Recently I have added back in rice, high protein pasta, polenta but I eat it rarely and literally a spoonful or two. In my fridge I always have full fat cheeses, lunch meats, good quality hot dogs, 2 to 3 containers of 1 percent cottage cheese, pudding, mayo, mustards, salad dressings, fresh mozerella (I eat a lot of caprese salad), fresh tomatoes, carrots, celery, fresh herbs, lettuce, different variety show of onions, garlic, sweet potato, zucchini, green peppers, bacon. Tons of frozen vegetables. I don't buy the ones with sauces or seasonings, I do that myself. I buy my meats fresh and cook them fresh but will freeze some ground beef so I have it on hand. I also buy shrimp and cook them up for a snack on occasion. I buy no canned soups I make them all from scratch and freeze them. That way I know there isn't junk in them.
  5. Oh and @@zackly is right, trying to eat or remember to eat when you have no hunger is in fact a chore. In the beginning I would actually forget it was mealtime altogether. Hours would go by and my husband would say, did you have anything for lunch yet? Shockingly I would say, oh my goodness no and I am not even hungry. The bad part about that is you can really mess up your new metabolism by skipping meals and you absolutely will not get your Protein in. You will get sick with malnourishment without the right nutrition. I like that I actually feel hunger that is tolerable and I especially like that 1/2 cup of protein dense food fills me and keeps me full for hours.

    Heartburn and bypass

I had severe reflux prior to bypass. I was on the gold standard medication for it at the maximum dose of twice per day. I have not had a single episode of heartburn or reflux since my surgery. They had me use nexium for 4 weeks post surgery and then stop. I am just about to hit my 12 month surgiversary. I venture to guess that you are actually having either dumping syndrome or potentially a lactose intolerance which is common and feels a lot like heartburn.

    Unprepared

I cannot do without, I end up with low blood sugar if I do that. I would pick up something like nuts, jerkey and a carton of milk from the gas station. Or even cheese would be fine.

How did you deal with hair loss?

I simply cut it short and will keep it that way until my thickness comes back. I lost about 2/3 of my hair and am nearly 12 months post op. Mine is still coming out more than it should but it has slowed down some. I take Biotin every day.

    6 days post op

Everyone's to,stance for pain is different. I remember being uncomfortable but definately nothing I could not handle. If this pain is not tolerable you need to call your doctor and ask him what to do about it. They will either check you out to make sure nothing is wrong or may prescribe a stronger pain killer. For me walking and changing positions helped more than anything.

    Protein shakes

I had that happen with almost every powdered Protein shake I tried then I switched to Premier Protein ready made shakes. 30gr protein, 1 gram of sugar, 160 calories. They are delicious, no grit and no foul protein taste. They even smell like chocolate milk. My surgeons office recommended them and they work fantastic. In the first month or so I did need to thin them out a little with milk because they were heavy but by week 6/7 I was able to drink them as is. You can get them at Sam's and costco in large bulk packs of 18. I have also found them at Walgreens in smaller packs but they are not at every Walgreens. Chocolate is the best because it is not overly sweet but vanilla and strawberry are not bad either. Give it a try....
  11. It totally depends on your insurance companies requirements. For some if you drop below the 35 BMI it can become a problem. Call your insurance company for the specific requirements or call your surgeons office and ask that question. Personally I would verify with insurance because in the end they are who will approve or deny your claim. Your question is very very important!

    My first stall :-(

If you are losing anything you are not in a stall. Your body needs time to breathe a little, give yourself a break!

    3 day post RNY

Glad to hear things went so well for you!
  14. I experienced the exact same thing. As of June I am off all blood pressure medication. Now my blood pressure and heart rate run low. In fact so low that it shocks most health care professionals. My lowest was 80/55 and my heart rate goes as low as 40s everyday. Because of this, if I stand too fast I get very dizzy the room goes black and I have even passed out once. After having many many tests to check my heart, adrenal system they attribute it to my massive weight loss. The instructions I received are to stand up slowly, wiggle my hands and feet before I stand up and take it slow. The good news is, my body is getting used to it and I only have a dizzy episode once or twice a day vs. every time I stand up. This issue is very common with post WLS patients and there is a whole thread on this topic from about a week or so ago.
  15. The best thing you can do for yourself is add more dense Protein to your meals. It may be time for you to increase and add some additional good protein and good carbs yo your diet. You are likely not getting enough at this point and running will use your stores and your body goes into starvation mode. Try adding some dense protein in like chicken, fish, pork, eggs, beef, cottage cheese. Also that dense protein will fill you up faster and keep you full longer. From your duet sample you are not getting enough protein heavy calories in. In between meals drink 8 oz. of milk, this also keeps that hunger at bay. Good luck!
  16. @@leag78, I started out at 315lbs and am currently at 189. I stall a lot but I promise if you are patient the weight will in fact come off. Stick to the plan and stay off the scale.

How many carbs do you shoot for?

I try to keep my carbs lower than my Protein intake which is between 75 and 100grams of protein. Very rarely do I hit the 100. I get the majority of my carbs through vegetables and fruit with the occasional whole grains. I limit the amount of white sugar, rice, Pasta and bread. Occasionally I will try a bite of rice but steer clear of bread and pasta, they make me feel like crap.
  18. Go with your gut on this and find a different center of excellence that will focus on you, not the number of sleeve surgeries they can get in. You will be so much happier with your decision. I am with you regarding this psych. What a jerk! I would definately not trust him. Good luck to you and please keep us posted. This is a big decision and you need to be 100 percent comfortable with your team.
  19. Hooray! Isn't it a fantastic feeling when you know your dream is about to become a reality! Congratulations! Keep us posted on your progress!
  20. I would be very concerned with both what you are eating and how much of it at this stage. I know others have already said this but: 1. Focus on dense Proteins. chicken, turkey, beef, pork, fish 2. Stay away from carbs at this point unless you can follow the 2 bites of dense Protein for every one bite of vegetables plan. You may be getting too many because it would be hard to believe you could eat 1 1/2 cups dense protein. No Pasta, bread, crackers, sweets and also stay away from casseroles and prepackaged foods. Cook your food fresh if you are not already. 3. No drinking with your meals. Follow this rule to a tee or you could be flushing what you are eating 4. 3 protein rich meals per day 5. If you are hungry in between meals have a Protein shake or an 8 oz. cup of milk. They are filling and will take care of hunger which you should not be feeling at this point. Otherwise an ounce of cheese or jerkey but milk is your best bet. 5. Measure everything 6. Track your food intake starting immediately using something like Myfitnesspal 7. Speak with your surgeon about why you are able to eat so much at this stage. I am nearly 12 months post op and other than salad barely come close to a cup. If it is dense protein I am lucky to fit 2/3 ounces in before becoming uncomfortable. If I were in your situation I would reset using the pouch test and start fresh. Good luck to you!

    Tylenol

I started taking Tylenol immediately after surgery as long as I did not take the liquid hydro codons they gave me.

@@Cervidae You are actually doing fantastic! I wish we could all lose 3lbs in a week and a half. You have to give yourself a break. The reality is you did not put on all this weight in a month or two and it will take time to lose it all. Some weeks you will do better than others. I seriously wish I could lose 3 lbs in a week right now. The reality is the further out you get and the closer you get to goal the slower the weight loss happens. The good news is, every pound lost is one you won't see again. You really are doing fantastic and you are likely losing inches. The scale is not the most important tool.

    Two Week Post-Op Update! =)

Woot woot! I am so very happy for you. I know that at times we hit bumps in the road but the best thing you can do for yourself is stay positive. That will always take you through the next bump, and yes you will have them. Congratulations on getting through one of the roughest parts and losing 50lbs in one month is absolutely amazing!
  24. Djmohr

    Stall!

First of all, you are losing which means you are not stalled. A stall means no weight lost and even some gain. 8lbs in 3 weeks is actually great! Keep in mind as you move forward the weight loss slows way down. I am lucky if I lose 8/10 lbs per month, and I do mean lucky. Even though crackers, bread and potatoes are approved just know that the carbs in them can in fact slow down weight loss. Try avoiding them for the next couple weeks and see if it helps speed things up for you.
  25. @@slvarltx Wow! You are lucky that your metabolism is so high and your weight seems to be coming off rapidly. I do understand you're concern. I would suggest talking to your nut if you are truly worried about losing too much weight. Have you considered your goal may be too high? From what I understand our bodies will adjust and stop when they are ready to for the most part. I know you are going off your old military weight but I am also guessing your body makeup might have been different at that time. Muscle weighs more than fat. Have you looked at the healthy weight scales for men your height? It might give you some guidance if you are interested in understanding your healthy weight. I do understand that you also may not be comfortable at a weight so low but it is just a thought. I ended up using the high end of the scale for me as a goal but honestly the closer I get, I wonder if that might be thinner than I would like. The reason I am using that number is everyone should e left some regain so I want to make sure I have room for that to happen. Just a thought, you have to do what is right for you. I would definately talk to your nutritionist.
