The pain is usually more from that blasted gas they pump into you. It can be very painful and the only thing that helps is Water, walking, gas X and heat packs. Walk like crazy and sip sip sip. Welcome to the losers club!

Not tolerating protein shakes. Thrush. Nausea
Djmohr replied to StephOnTheMove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was one of those people who could not tolerate milk right after surgery. My Protein shakes actually made me I'll. My surgeons office recommended that I switch to Premier Protein ready made shakes instead, they have 30grams of protein in 11 ounces. At first I would have to use have lactaid and half protein just because they were a little heavy for me. Within a couple of weeks I was able to drink them straight out of the container. You can buy them at Sam's and costco, Walmart and some Walgreens have them too. In terms of your mouth being dry and turning white, that really sounds like dehydration to me. How much liquid are you getting at this point? -
What would you have done differently? (prepping for surgery)
Djmohr replied to ImBringingLisaBack RNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have made some very good quality chicken broth and froze it. This was the thing hat saved me during the pre op diet and I sipped it during the clear liquid phase. I had no idea that good chicken broth would help me tolerate all that sweet that comes with the liquid Protein diet. A nurse in my surgeons office who also went through bypass surgery told me how important it was 3 days into my liquid diet and suggested it. Canned broth is horrible and tastes like dirty dishwater. You have to have the good stuff. -
Someone 4 months out should not need to leverage the 5 day pouch test. Are you having trouble with the food plan post surgery? It is not a hoax, it will help set you back to the basics. I have talked to several people that had reached goal and got off track. It helped them to reset. Are you thinking about trying it?

@@pianogal7733, I am glad that you recognize going back to basics is what will help you get back on track. Keep us posted on your progress. Good luck!

Don't be so hard on yourself. Most of us have that lovely food funeral before surgery. Now, just get back on track immediately tomorrow so you can accomplish your required weight loss. Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your new life and it is going to be a great new life! Good luck!

Purée stage eggs
Djmohr replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't make the mistake of pureeing eggs. I did and can no longer eat them which makes me very very sad. The smell of eggs actually make me gag and then vomit. -
What you describe sounds exactly what my gall stone attacks were like. I got mine out many many years ago in an open operation because this went on for a very long while before docs did an ultra sound to verify, I had so many stupid waste of money tests and all that was needed was an ultra sound. As soon as they saw it, they realized in was in big trouble, rushed me to surgery and opened up my belly. I have an 8 inch scar because they screwed around so long.

Severe Asthma/Prednisone Use
Djmohr replied to nearperfectmess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@nearperfectmess Hi there! I have not had the same experience as you in regards to asthma but I wanted to reach out and say congratulations on your decision to get healthy. I did have some of the other co morbitities that you speak of, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, severe Gerd and stage 3 kidney disease. Every single one of these medical issues have either been cured or are in remission. Having this surgery definately saved my life. I know that you will be much healthier for taking these steps. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions! -
You have to be careful with different supplements that claim to help with thinning hair. The reality is if you are one that will shed from massive weight loss there really is nothing that will stop it from happening. Biotin is the best thing to help with regrow th but it also does not stop it from happening. I have personally talked to several experts on the lass of hair through bariatric weight loss. There really is no way to stop it so you could be wasting your money. I happen to have been one of the unlucky folks. My hair started falling out by month 3 and it just recently stopped. I am 12 months post op and lost 3/4 of my thickness. I have been meeting my Protein and Water goals since near the beginning. I have been taking biotin as well. The good news is, it did finally stop as my weight loss slowed down and it has been coming back in all along. I have tons of little hairs poking up everywhere.

Walking up stairs losing my breathe
Djmohr replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are 1 week out you are likely very weak but I would check it out anyway. As your fluids and Protein goals are achieved this will definately improve. It took a few weeks for me but I was on Clear liquids week 1 and was not allowed to start protein until week 2. Even when I could drink protein it took about a month before I even could get half my daily requirement in. -
The only Protein shakes I use these days are: Premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30grams of protein in each shake, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. They taste great, pack a huge protein punch, are not gritty, require no work on my part other than to shake well before drinking. They come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. You can buy them in bulk at costco or Sam's. You can buy them at Walmart and some Walgreens in small 4 packs. Costco has them on sale occasionally and I stock up. They come in 18 packs at Costco. These were recommended by my surgeon after I could not tolerate the powdered stuff initially.

Ugh! What a crappy week to deal with. I am glad to hear you have dealt with it without turning to food. Congratulations! I personally think strangling her might make for another crappy week! LOL! Certainly makes sense to post the ad instead.

Congratulations! Wow, I bet you feel fantastic too! When you think about 200 pounds that is more than I weigh right now, or another whole you! Isn't it crazy when you think about it like that! Well done!

I was also on a clear liquid diet for a week post op. No Protein or milk of any kind. I remember the diahrea vividly. When I went for my 1 week post op I was told this was completely normal. The next week I went to full liquids which included protein shakes, it improved but as soon as they switched me to puréed I then got the other issue of constipation. They tell me this is the high protein low carb diet. I still deal with constipation and take stool softeners with laxative twice daily. It is normal for the stage you are in.

For me: Breakfast: either premier Protein shake or cream of wheat/oatmeal (If I do have oatmeal or cream of wheat , I will then have a premier Protein Shake as a snack) this ensures my protein is met for the day Lunch: 1/2 cup cottage cheese & fresh tomatoes or cucumbers or if I have leftover protein from dinner the night before I will have that. On occasion I will have a tomato & mozerella (caprese) Snack: nuts or jerkey, full fat cheese Dinner: chicken, fish, beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin or shrimp prepared in different ways. Cauliflower, peas, carrots, corn, Beans, broccoli as a side dish Snack: Apple with Peanut Butter, nuts or jerkey, full fat cheese I use full fat cheeses with the exception of cottage cheese, I use 1 percent cottage cheese because I eat that a lot. I also use full fat dressings, mayo which I rarely use because I don't eat sandwiches of any kind. I steer clear of breads. On occasion I will have a bite or two of potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice but I really limit this to a couple times per week. My tummy gets too full and I cannot get my protein in if I eat breads, cakes, rice.
-
I did get bruises in the first couple of months post op but I no longer see them.
-
Honestly if you are far enough out you can. I have allergies to sugar substitutes so when I do indulge, I will have a bite or two of the real thing but I have to be careful I don't eat too much or I get what I would call a mild dumping syndrome. For me, I don't care for dessert any longer. Most of it does not feel good in my tummy. I do like ice cream but that definately gives me a racing heart and tummy ache so I have decided to steer clear. The other thing I would say is, the carbs in desserts can slow down or stall weight loss.

Heart beating fast
Djmohr replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it happens when I have something that has way too much sugar in it. It possibly could be mild dumping syndrome. What has your diet looked like today? Sometimes things you least expect will set it off. -
This is what it is all about!!! Congratulations on your incredible weight loss! I know exactly how you feel right now. It is the best thing I ever did for myself as well!

I have a similar feeling when I get constipated and it really is miserable. I actually take a stool softener with laxative twice daily to stay regular. Occasionally it stills happens.
