I am 14 months post iop and like many others I only regret not doing it sooner. It is the best of thing I have ever done for myself.
-
Definitely no. It has been hard to get used to because of my severe arthritis but it is not worth the potential stomach issues.

Best baked hot wings 1 package of chicken wings or however many you like. Olive oil Salt Pepper Louisiana hot sauce 1/2 stick butter I love hot wings but the ones without all that nasty breading. So I simply bake my wings or drumettes in a 400 oven until crispy. It usually take about 30 to 45 minutes. I put parchment on my baking pan for easy clean up and I swear they get crispier because of the parchment. Turn the wings once during baking. While wings are in oven, take butter and a bottle of hot sauce and simmer in a small saucepan. When wings are done simply toss in sauce to coat. Wings will stay delicious and crispy if you serve right away. Sometimes I will put that sauce in a slow cooker on the lowest setting, toss my wings and let people help themselves. The longer they sit in that slow cooker the meat will literally fall off the bones but this method will take away their crispness over time. This is the way that I love them! -

Brie with apricot cranberries on apple slices This is one of my favorite treats! Small wheel of your favorite Brie cheese 1/2 cup low sugar apricot preserves 1/4 cup crazies Preheat oven to 350. Unwrap Brie and place in glass baking dish. Spread apricot preserves on top (if u like more, add more). Sprinkle craisins on top. Bake in 350 over for 15 to 20 minutes until Brie is soft and warm. Serve immediately with apple slices or your favorite whole grain cracker. Be careful not to over indulge in this one. It is addictive! -

Thanksgiving day appetizer chicken salad yum yums 1 large can chicken breast meat 1 hard boiled egg chopped small 2 baby dill pickles chopped very small 1 celery stalk chopped very small 1/3 to 1/2 cup mayo ( I use olive oil mayo) or if you like miracle whip light that's great with this too! Salt Pepper 1 English cucumber sliced in coins Drain chicken well. Mix chicken, egg, pickle, celery and 1/3 cup mayo in a small bowl. Add additional mayo if needed and salt and pepper to taste. Top cucumber coins with salad and enjoy. You can also make this with tuna. Normally I make small cheese puffs - (mini cream puff recipe with shredded cheese in it) and put this salad in between. It is one of my families favorite Snacks for football watching but I adapted it for me. I have however eaten 1 of the cheese puffs a few weeks ago. Although my tummy usually don't like bread, these were really great and my tummy did not mind. -

I do this all the time but now as I am nearing my goal I have slowed my roll. I really love those little jackets and tops that have the thumb holes in them. My hands are always cold as am I so when I started shopping for them I was excited. Of course at the time I was still in an extra large and the really cute ones only come in small, med, and large. I bought the large and although I could squeeze into it at the time it was really snug everywhere. I hung it in my closet and it has been there ever since. That is until last week when I pulled it out and was able to wear it comfortably for the day. Of course I have found many of those types of jackets since and I have been wearing them for about a month now. My next purchase will be a size 10 jeans, my 12s are starting to get very loose but I am sure the 10 will still be snug. If and when I get rid of all this loose skin, I will probably be into a 8 maybe? I am fearful of buying anything in that size thinking I may never get there.

Leftover Turkey Enchilada Soup 2 cups shredded leftover turkey 6 Cups chicken stock 1 large can enchilada sauce 1 can green chiles 1 poblano pepper chopped 1 large sweet onion chopped 3 carrots diced 2 stalks of celery sliced thin 2 cloves garlic minced 1 1/2 cups whole kernel corn 1t cumin 2t chili powder Salt to taste Pepper to taste 2 T olive oil Heat olive oil in large heavy bottom soup pot. Sweat onion, celery, poblano and carrots until begin to soften. Add garlic and stir for about a minute. Don't burn garlic or it gets bitter. Add chicken stock, enchilada sauce and all other ingredients to the pot and let simmer until veggies are soft. Add salt and pepper to taste and certainly add additional chili powder or even hot sauce if you like it spicier. I happen to like mine more on the mild side. You can also add Beans to ramp up the Protein and take the corn out. I don't eat beans. -
Day 4 post op and could use some support

I think everyone feels that low energy generally crappy feeling that first week. That feeling gets worse if you let yourself get dehydrated. The thing that will help you to feel better is getting fluids in at this point. Given you are bypass I am guessing you are on Clear Liquids this week? I know I was only allowed clear liquids and they had not even started me on Protein until after my one week check in. That first week is rough but you have to sip all day long. I promise, it will get better! -
You have done great so far! Don't let a stall get the best of you. They really are a normal part of the process and I promise it will end. In terms of nausea? Are you getting all of your fluids in? Dehydration can cause you to feel like crap and become nauseous. This happened to me in the beginning and honestly I did not start to feel better until I got all my liquids in. If that is not the culprit then give your doctor a call and they can give you something for the nausea. Best of luck to you!
-
You must get your Protein and fluids in. Without it you won't heal, your hair will fall out and you will get sick. For many of us powdered Proteins simply don't work or the sugar subs used taste too sweet. You have to keep trying until you find one you like. I found one 2 weeks post op that I love. It is Premier Protein ready made shakes, chocolate specifically. It is definitely not to sweet and doesn't have that nasty taste or grit. It packs 30 grams of protein in 1 11oz. shake with only 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. You can get them in bulk at Sam's or costco and in smaller packs at Walmart and some Walgreens stores. If these don't work for you, you need to find a protein solution that will. If you don't, you will pay for it in the end and you certainly don't want complications after going through all this. I promise that feeling you are getting with food can come from being dehydrated and malnourished. It will get better if you get focused. Your doctor can give you something for nausea as well.

There may be times when you don't go for a while. I use stool softeners every day otherwise I am always constipated. Even 14 months post op. -
@@Staples87 Congratulations on taking the steps to get healthy. You are very young and have you're whole life ahead of you. I too was a teen Mom, married with two kids by the time I was 19. All the responsibility without the time to enjoy childhood ourselves. I wish the very best for you and your family and I am glad you have chosen to do something now while you are so young and have not caused a lot of damage to your body yet. Staying heavy for too long really is very damaging. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. Which surgery are you moving forward with?

If I had to do this all over again I would definitely use Premier Protein ready made shakes. They are delicious and packed with protein. Even 14 months later I drink one a day.

Is bariatric surgery right for me?
Djmohr replied to sjs1971's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree that you probably need to talk with a therapist that is focused on Bariatrics. They will help you work through the head issues. I think it would also be beneficial for you to really do some serious research on obesity. It is a metabolic disease and many people don't understand what happens with our bodies when we have this disease. Yes, you could probably lose the weight on your own. The biggest question is can you keep it off long term? For most of us the answer is no and over time we put that weight we lost back on and then add some more on top of it. Then we start the whole process over again only to get heavier and heavier. Our bodies are at war with us. As you get older, even trying to lose anything becomes more and more difficult. That is our metabolism slowing even further. I have said this at least 1000 times since i had bypass. If I had anything I regretted it was not having this surgery 10 years earlier. I waited too long and damaged my joints and my spine permanently. Also, if you work through these issues with your therapist they will help you work with the head issues which will in turn prepare you for the lifetime commitment of eating better. In the end your relationship with food changes. You no longer live to eat, you eat to live. Food is not as important as it was. It is important though that you understand what you are in for and that you are ready. I might suggest bringing your husband along for the ride so he understands what obesity is and what it means. Your choice will impact him as well. My husband has been extremely supportive and understands that my cooking was going to change for both of us. -
"Chemical" Stress Test....Weird!
Djmohr replied to bugsy72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bugsy72 Glad everything went well for you. I had a nuclear stress test in June and you are right that feeling when your heart starts racing is very weird but everything went good as well. I also am a hard stick when it comes to IVs. Especially when they use lidocaine to make it less painful. During both my bypass and my spine surgery in June they stuck me 8 times before they finally got a line in. I had surgery on Monday and warned them that lidocaine will make it worse for both of us. They had a anesthesiologist do it without the lidocaine and bam they got it on the first try. From now on I am going to tell them not to use lidocaine. The other good news is as you lose weight you end up with more veins for them to choose from which is great. Before my bypass they really stuck me in the same place every single time and that created years of scar tissue. -
I suspect this is more about head hunger and not real hunger given you had the sleeve. It is likely not possible for you to actually feel real hunger at this point. If you think you are actually hungry try drinking Water. Many times dehydration gives the same symptoms as hunger Given this is likely head hunger, means you reall need some help getting your head around this. Have you considered a therapist?

Tylenol only. NO NSAIDS of any kind. They can cause serious complications.

I have not had this but would definitely be concerned about a blood clot. If you are not comfortable with your doctor go to another one until you get answers. That is not normal at all. Your brain really is the last to catch up. The thing that works for me is trying on old clothes. It cracks me up and I love the fact that I can literally fit in one side of my pants. Just keep taking pics and looking at them side by side, your brain will catch up after a while.

I went back because I moved states but I had mine done at 7 months post op. I actually need to do it again but I am going to wait until I am at goal. I haven't even changed my Facebook pics yet, I want to wait til goal. -
The only thing I can say is it will get better as time goes by and your tummy heals. The reality is, you must get your Protein so if you are not getting it via food which based on your list it's not possible, then you must get it through supplements. Try different brands of shakes. I could not tolerate the powdered protein, it gagged me. My Bariatrician suggested going to a good quality ready made shake. She suggested premier Protein Shakes. They are ready made and ice cold they are actually delicious. Each has 30 grams of protein and 1 gram of sugar so you need to drink them less frequently to get your protein in. I still drink one every morning for Breakfast because I still cannot eat enough meat to support my 70 gram minimum. Also, don't give up on foods, keep trying them. What didn't work today may be great tomorrow.
