  1. Are you getting sick on those days or do you just not feel like eating? The reason I ask is, early on there are some days that food works just great and others where it simply doesn't. When that happened to me, it usually has to do with the food i was eating but I never got sick unless I ate eggs. What types of food are you eating? I am glad to hear you are at least drinking milk, hopefully you have chosen fair life milk which increases the Protein. Especially if you are not drinking Protein shakes. Lastly are you getting all of your fluids? That can really make you feel like crap if not. Honestly you can deal without food for a long time but you cannot go without Water. Have you contacted your surgeons office? They may have suggestions as well.
  2. I also know for me, my pouch prefers room temperature Water. Any time i drink anything ice cold I swear my tummy simply hurts for a while, especially in the am. If I am sipping cold is no problem.

    QUESTIONS TO MY SURGEON

In the beginning until you get the hang of it straws can cause you to gulp or put air in your belly. It wont hurt your pouch but gulping air is painful. Even now after 2 years every once in a while I gulp some air and it sucks..... I drink using a straw every day though.....I started using a straw around 9 months post op after having cervical fusion surgery. It was just easier and have been ever since. Many people on this site use a straw.
  4. @@sandyoutrage At 4 weeks i was getting about 60 grams of Protein and less than 500 calories. In fact, most of the time i could only eat a few forkfuls of food, about 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup at that stage. My nut did not allow me to count calories, i only know it because i was tracking it in myfitnesspal. Also, my nut requires 1 gram of protein for every inch you are tall. So for me, my max goal is 70 and she likes me to be between 60 and 70 but that is because I have stage 3 kidney disease and too much protein makes your kidneys work harder. that being said, I have asked if this is a special goal for me because of my disease and she said no....1 gram of protein for every 1 inch you are tall is the goal for everyone on their program.
  5. @@wantenergy83 Definately not.....if you are doing any heavy lifting it will need to be a while. So sorry that this puts the added stress on you but it will be worth it in the end. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

    Rny? Or sleeve?

Originally I was going to get the sleeve and after meeting the surgeon learned that Gerd can sometimes become very severe after sleeve surgery. In fact, some end up with GERD after never having it before surgery and ultimately end up with a revision to RNY. After doing some research on RNY and understanding all of the elements I went for it and have not regretted my decision to do so. It is still the gold standard in weight loss surgery. I lost all of my excess weight - 152Lbs. I had severe gerd and was on max dosages for PPIs everyday. Since the day of my surgery i have not even had a slight case of heartburn. RNY literally cured my gerd, put my diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease into remission. Cleared up my high blood pressure and high cholesterol and cured my sleep apnea. NO MORE BIPAP for me..... My goal was to get healthy.......I did not have any idea that I would actually get to a normal healthy weight. That was a plus!
  7. Every day will get a little better. If you are struggling with a stricture, take the time to get it cleared up and things will get better for you. I have never for even 1 second regretted my decision to have bypass surgery. it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Recovery is a process that requires patients. There are going to be good days and bad days....but the bad days will go away after some time. The lifestyle takes some getting used to.
  8. Liquid is not going to stretch your pouch. Yes, you will be able to drink normal again. The biggest issue is gulping can be very painful. I know even now after two years, I will drink a whole bottle of Water very quickly but if i accidentally gulp it causes a nasty pain in your chest. For now....sip every few seconds and that thirst will go away.
  9. This can sometimes be uncomfortable so i totally get it. The good news is, it won't always be like this, you will learn tips and tricks to help deal with it. The worst for me was I went on a VIP cruise that was all expenses paid. With it came huge cocktail parties and team dinners. At the time i was only 6 months post op and maybe ate 1/2 cup of food at a time. I would only order something small and usually could only eat a bit or two and I would be full. When you are on a cruise they really worry about whether or not you liked something. Whats worse is my hubby was always taught to eat everything on his plate. That is a problem for me even now because he will eat, what i don't and he is gaining weight with that approach. Do i have learned to be up front and let them know I am a very small eater and will likely need a to go container. Then i find myself actually packing up most of my food before i even eat it. Also, I order off the appetizer menu or split food with hubby just to avoid him eating my food and his. You will get the hang of it and over time you will be able to eat a little more.
  10. @@wantenergy83 I would just call out that you should not be out long with this surgery either. I could have returned to work within a week. How much time are you taking off?
  11. @@heyyall Yes, mine grew back and then some. It also became very very very curly. I had body before, now i have thick curls and I am learning to tame them. Even my hair stylist said she never saw this happen so fast and to the degree mine has. I can straighten it but it takes way too long so i am learning to wear my hair very curly. LOL

    Salad

I was allowed raw veggies such as salad at 6 weeks post op but I will tell you, my tummy did NOT like it one little bit. It was nearly 12 months before salads became a part of my life every day. And, it is very important that you ensure that you add and eat good Protein to your salads so you have balance. I love salads now but have noticed that if i am not very careful i tend to eat more of the veggies and push away some of the protein. In that instance it is not the best meal because when i don't eat the protein, i am hungry again fairly quickly.
  13. Yes yes yes......And you end up with a bit of residual fat and lots of extra skin. then you go to the plastic surgeon and during your tummy tuck they will fix it. I have my surgery in January and cannot wait to get rid of all this loose skins.

    Advice please!

eggs always do that to me, yet I keep trying them. I actually feel a heaviness and nauseous feeling when i eat them. Because it has happened so many times to me, I will usually try a bite or two and then wait. The feeling will pass in a bout an hour or so. I love eggs.....they despise me now.
  15. Premier Protein was recommended by my nut post op because it carries 30 grams of protein. if you drink much more protein at any one given time, some of the protein is malabsorbed but 30 grams is just fine. I have been drinking at least one daily for over two years now and it is approved by surgeons and nuts all over the place.
  16. @@MindyMe Have you tried Linzess? It is a prescription medication that works differently and works well. You might call your doctor and ask for it. I have been using it for a year and my life is much better since. And there are still days where i take a stool softener with laxative but then all hell breaks loose. LOL

    Tylenol issues, help

Honestly...I have huge back problems and I do not take narcotics or medication for it at all because it really doesn't help. I use ice and heat, meditation, warm Water pools. Severe arthritis of the spine, many back surgeries. The only thing i do take is a muscle relaxer at bedtime or i would not sleep at all. I also use essential oils: Francinsense, Peppermint and copaiba. (They call it the morphine bomb) - It helps a little for me but most of my pain is coming from the nerves in my thoracic area and nothing really helps it. On 11/11 they are going to do intercostal nerve blocks and if it works, we will do nerve ablation. The best thing you can do is keep on moving as hard as that is. It used to be that bed rest was recommended and that actually made recovery worse for people in the long run. The whole back thing sucks bad.... Sorry that you are in pain....there is nothing worse besides maybe a migraine.
  18. Does your insurance not cover surgery here in the states? I ask because it would help you and your family to understand why bariatric surgery is necessary. Many times they dont get that not having the surgery could be even more dangerous than having it. Obesity is a metabolic disease that if treated properly can be cured. I know it was very important for my husband to go with me to my second appointment so that he understood why it was most critical. I had to take the time with my grown boys to also help them understand that without surgery I would likely fail to keep the weight off after losing it. Just take some time with them and help them understand your reasons for having surgery. As far as Mexico goes, that is a personal decision and I dont believe it is like Iraq for petes sake. That being said, for follow up reasons if you can have your surgery here in the US the better off you are. Just my opinion!

    Wanting to know

I had RNY bypass two years ago. Honestly I have never second guessed myself, not before and not after. This was because I was very sick from being obese and I knew that I would not live a long full life. I am 5'10" and weighed 315 at my very heaviest. I carried my weight well but my body was breaking down. I had high BP, High cholesterol, sleep apnea, Severe gerd, diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease. I was told that I would soon be looking at kidney dialysis and then down the road a transplant. I also have psoriatic arthritis and severe osteo arthritis of the spine. Much of these diseases came on in my late 30's, early 40's and they were caused by being obese which is a metabolic disease. I lost over 100 pounds on my own many times and would gain it all right back. Since having surgery my diabetes, gerd, high bp, high cholesterol, sleep apnea is all gone. My stage 3 kidney disease has not progressed and is considered in remission. The bad news is, I should have done it sooner because I damaged my joints and am still dealing with back, neck and shoulder pain. Had i done this even 5 years sooner, it might have made a difference. The good news is, I feel fantastic! More awake, more alert and definitely happier! If I were you, I would think about what reasons you were considering bypass in the first place and stay focused on that. It might help you make a decision. Also, i would not move forward unless i was 100% sure because this is a huge life change and you have to be ready for it to be successful long term.
  20. I am just about to go through an abdominal-lastly, breast lift and augmentation. I have a lot of loose hanging skin and I am under my goal with a normal BMI. I have researched the heck out of plastics over the last 2 years and from what I understand you will not loose a lot of weight. You will lose inches and of course your tummy will be nice and tight. After childbirth it is difficult to get rid of the tummy, they just don't bounce back. If you are confident in your ability to keep the weight off, is it possible to drop some weight on your own before the tummy tuck? That would likely give you the best outcome. That is the route i would take vs. paying for the balloon. If you follow a high Protein, lower carb well balanced diet along with exercise...you should be able to drop some of that weight. Just my two cents.

    I don't feel full....

The trick in the beginning is to follow by measurement and go no further. Once you get to more solid foods you will get a better understanding and even indicators like a hiccup or a sneeze. Feeling full post op WLS is completely different than how you felt before surgery and it will take some getting used to. I would also say just because you can eat and eat does not mean you should. For RNY, you can literally cause yourself to vomit if you eat too much.

    Dehydrated :(

The only thing that worked for me was literally holding the Water bottle in my hand and sipping every few seconds. for me my best chance of getting all my fluids is first thing in the am I start with a bottle of room temp spring water. I sip and sip until the first bottle is gone. Then, I drink my Protein shake which gives me another 11oz. 30 minutes after that, I start with a second bottle of water so by noon/1pm I already have around 48 ounces. I have my lunch, wait an hour and sip another bottle of water, sometimes 2 between lunch and dinner. After dinner i slowly sip on more water but i really tone it down so i don't have to be up peeing all night. Holding the bottle in my hand ensures i will remember to sip. also, I never ever go anywhere without a bottle of water in my hand. I am easily able to get to 64 using this process. on the days i don't, i am lucky to get in 48 which is the minimum. Best of luck to you!

    Feeling Weak on Pre-Op Diet

I know I felt that way too, especially in the last few days and i was on a 14 day liquid only diet. It is probably not a good idea to overexert the next fews days though. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
  24. @@shedo82773 I would ask you how YOU feel about your appearance. The reason I ask is because many times we feel a certain way and then read more into comments than what is there. If you feel great about how you look, then that rubs off on others. If you yourself feel like you are too skinny that may be part of the problem. It takes a long time and sometimes we need help getting through such a significant change. You have been married a very long time. I am guessing your husband is thrilled that you are now healthy and if that means you are no longer thick, he will Love you regardless. We are all so hard on ourselves......Initially when some folks were telling me I was too skinny, it really did freak me out a litttle. It took some time for me to understand that they simply were not used to seeing us at a NORMAL size. My husband is obese and has always been comfortable with women who have some meat on their bones. For him, he is most excited about how I feel and because of that He is thrilled for me. On Halloween we will be married 29 years. I was obese 27 of those 29 years. The only bummer for both of us is how much loose skin there is but I decided I wanted in particular to have my breasts fixed. It is both for me and for him as that is always his favorite body part......LOL. I have always said, I would rather have the loose skin than the fat and the scars vs the loose skin. Anyway, my point is you might be overly critical of yourself and so you read more into comments made by others. I get the no butt thing all the time....but I actually find it rather funny.
