  1. I am 4 months post op and can pretty much eat everything with the exception of eggs. My pouch simply does not like them nor do my taste buds. I am hoping that will change. I can eat sugar, bread, Pasta and rice but I STAY AWAY. For me pasta and sweets would definitely be a trigger food and although I have had a taste of a dessert here or there they are too sweet for me. I simply do not like sweets any more. (yeah for me!) Pasta I won't even try as that used to be my favorite meal and I always overate it. I have tried a fork full of rice here and there but really try to save the room in my pouch for Protein and vegetables. If I eat bread (for a sandwich) I simply will try a bite or two of whole grain bread and it satisfies me. If I ate much more than that, it would fill my pouch before I got my protein in and it does not stay with me.

    BMI over 50?

Definitely not true. As my surgeon said: a person can have one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel and they will still have to go through the required process that the insurance company requires. It all depends on the insurance company.
  3. I definitely have them but I know I am not getting enough sleep.

    Hunger Question

I am 4 months post op and I do get hungry especially if I end up eating more carbs than I should. If i stick to a high Protein meal with good carbs (veggies), it keeps me fuller longer. If I do get hungry in-between meals I will actually drink a cup of fat free milk which fills me up until the next mean plus it gives me good protein. By the way, my hunger kicked in right after I started working out more vigorously. Also it takes very little to make that feeling go away.
  5. It is funny how different doctors tell you different things. I was told that both a Protein shake and milk actually turns to a solid once it hits your stomach. This is why they keep you fuller longer than Water. Milk is actually is great as a snack because it gives you great protein and keeps you full between meals. My team has told me to definitely use the 30/30 rule when drinking your Protein shakes and milk.

    6 Weeks Post-op tomorrow...

@@Annek2014, I too cannot tolerate eggs of any kind. It really bums me out because I used to love them. I have tried scrambled, fried, hard boiled, egg salad, egg custard. I have tried mixing them with other things but in the end my pouch nor my tastebuds like them. I will usually have yogurt with high protein granola, or oatmeal made with high protein milk. I really struggle when we go out for breakfast and these items are not on the menu. Then I will try ham which I used to love and barely tolerate now. I also sometimes will eat cottage cheese with some sliced strawberries or banana.
  7. I have not had any complications from surgery at all. Of course I have had a lot of constipation from eating high protein, low carb diet. I would not call that a complication.

    No butts about it

My tail bone hurts constantly! I even purchased a pillow on Amazon.com and I take it everywhere with me. It provides a little relief. I never thought what would happen when I lost my fanny. Although I would definitely take that over being fat any day. Plus I read somewhere that your body will adjust.

    Lucky you! Congratulations!

I am so sorry this is taking so long for you! I hope things get moving forward.

    Here we go again

Trust me, you are definitely not alone! It took me 9 months to get through a six month process. And I did not miss a single appointment along the way. Other people do not care as much as you do about how long a person has to wait. You have to be your own advocate, that is for sure. Good luck with the next steps!

    Not fun

This is such a great topic. That damn scale is the most frustrating! I weigh once per day and so far had only one stall. I believe I might have started my 2nd stall about a week ago. No matter how much I work out, get my Protein and Water that darn scale just won't move. No matter how much I tell myself not to get frustrated, I still do. Yet, every morning I get back on that stupid scale only to be told nothing is happening. Ugh! I know that if I just stay on track the stall will break and I will start losing again. I think I am ready to start weighing once a week. I am a positive person and do not need the damn scale bursting my bubble when I hit a stall. So, I am going to try like heck to stay off of it for a week and see what happens. The good news is, I had to go buy new pants again because mine are getting pretty saggy. I have moved from a size 26 to a size 16! I have not been in a 16 since I was in my twenties! What a fantastic goal to have met so soon! I like using clothing to measure my progress as opposed to the scale. They make me feel great!

TODAY IS THE DAY ,NEW LIFE

@@GingerDiane, I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery. I remember how excited I was on the day of my surgery. I have had many surgeries and this was the first time I was not even a tiny bit nervous. In fact it felt like Christmas morning when I was a kid and I was going to get a fabulous present. I hope you are recovering well so you can begin your new life. Congratulations!
  15. @@brinkie, I am so sorry to hear about your struggles. It sounds like you have been through the ringer but are ready to come out on the other side. I have a similiar situation, in fact I am headed to see a spine surgeon this morning. My cervical spine is so bad and I have been putting this off for many years. I have had spine surgery before so I know what I am in for with this. I am a fighter so hopefully I will bounce back quickly. Have you tried the pouch test? I believe it is called the 5 day pouch test. I have read about it and supposedly it helps to give you a fresh start. You can google it and see what you think. Good luck and I will say a prayer for you!

    Cream of rice w/chicken broth

Cream of wheat was one of the things I lived on for the first month.

    Hello, I'm new...LOL

Congratulations on starting your new life. It is a very exciting time as you make the decision and start the process. It is even more exciting as you take your life back! Welcome to the boards, I have learned a lot from talking to folks on this site. Good luck on your approval and keep us posted!

    Diabetics

I was type 2 as well. I stopped taking my meds the night before surgery. Immediately following surgery my sugars started coming down. I am now 3.5 months post op. My fast sugar is consistently in the low 70s and I am usually in the low 80s 2 hours after a meal. It is truly amazing what happens post surgery. Good luck!
  19. I love the program for tracking food, exercise and weight. I pay no attention to that message. I actually think it's funny.
  20. By the way, I never throw up now. "Knock on wood"
  21. For some people throwing up is pretty common on a daily basis. Do you know if it is being caused by something specific at this point? Like a particular food or maybe the type of Protein drinks you are consuming? For me, in the first month I discovered that I was suddenly lactose intolerant. I was having a hard time with heaviness in my tummy and I would begin gagging until I threw up. I also had a very hard time with the protein powders and had to move to a premade shake. I switched to Premier Protein but even then had to use 50 percent Protein Shake and 50 percent lactaid milk. After about 6 weeks I was able to drink a protein shake without milking it down. Also, I was told that if I threw up, I would wait an hour and try something else. That way I was not completely missing my protein. Not sure if any of this helps or not.

    Turkey!

Instead of pita have you tried "flat outs"? They are whole grain and they have a light version as well. My nutritionist told me about them. I usually use a half of one.

Has weight loss/surgery turned me crazy?

Absolutely I was very cranky for the first 6 weeks or so. My husband actually would say something and I would bite his head off. We laugh about it now because I am the complete opposite. I think it is all the changes plus for me it started during the pre op diet. It went away when I started consistently meeting my protein and water goals. And yes, I do eat plenty of good fats in my diet. I stay far away from any sweets whatsoever. I had such a huge problem with sweets prior to surgery and I am afraid if I let them back in, I will be in trouble again.

    Board running slow today

This lag was also happening to me yesterday. It's good to know I am not the only one. It is however frustrating.

    STILL STALLED. help :(

By the way, don't be afraid of not losing more. You just need to make sure you are getting your protein, water and are exercising. Even though the scale may say one thing you are likely losing inches. The stall will break if you are following the plan.
