Are you exercising regularly? If not, that might help with those last 17lbs. I of course am still far from my goal but I am guessing those last 20 will give me trouble when I get to that point. I feel like I lose ok now but of course it has slowed way down from the beginning 2 months. I have to work very hard at it, some weeks I lose a pound others 3, usually no more than that.

I remember being so excited when I got to move to this stage. I made the mistake of pureeing tuna, chicken and eggs (separately of course). I now cannot eat eggs at all! The taste and smell make my stomach turn, it makes me very sad because i used to love eggs. I am good with chicken and tuna however I never want to eat them pureed again. One time was enough for me and I was done. I really ended up living on Protein shakes, yogurt (i ate a lot of yogurt), Cream of mushroom Soup, chicken broth and cottage cheese. I love cottage cheese however I could not eat it pureed, I ate small curd and basically pureed it by chewing the heck out of it. I also made fresh cooked carrots and mashed them with a fork. That worked very well and I love carrots even more now. Good luck on the next phase of your diet. The time goes quickly and then you will be on soft foods.

Protein Supplements?
Djmohr replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I still drink one protein shake every morning before I work out and this is approved by my surgical team. it is a premier protein which has 30g of protein and very low sugar. The only time I have a protein bar is if I am out and about and don't have time to have a meal then i can eat about a half of one before I am full. That happens rarely because I try to plan my day so I get my meals in. -
Help! I need ideas, and suggestions with exercise
Djmohr replied to 33Love's topic in Fitness & Exercise
@@CowgirlJane, I was going to say the same thing. I was just trying on bathing suits for my trip this coming week and all my sagging skin is making me not to want to put on a bathing suit at all. I have lost 73lbs so far and have another 71 to go to reach my goal. I exercise regularly and I am seeing a lot of toning of my muscles which is great but the skin issue is a whole different issue. It could be because I am 51 and it just is not as elastic as before. I have always planned on having plastics done but in the meantime it looks like I have a skin suit on. Honestly, that is a great problem to have so I am certainly not complaining. I would much rather live with my extra skin that all of that heavy fat that was making my health miserable. -
I do think the type of your surgery is important. At two weeks i was feeling pretty good but got extremely tired during the day. I believe I was on pureed foods and if your surgery is the same I am guessing this will prove to be quite difficult. For me the pureed stage was absolutely the hardest and my new tummy was so new that it did not like a lot of the pureed foods. I lived on cottage cheese, Protein shakes and yogurt primarily. It is also much more difficult to get the right amount of Water in your body when traveling. When you are home you can sit with that water bottle in your hand and sip sip sip all day long. That proves to be much more difficult even for me now and 4 months and I travel all the time. All of these things, not enough water, so little food consumption and being so soon after surgery make a person very weak and tired. I had a great recovery but I still felt these things for about 4 to 6 weeks post op. Everyone is different though so maybe you can plan it and make the call to cancel if you need to? Good luck on your surgery and wishing you a very speedy recovery.

@@sjules, Congratulations and glad to hear that you are so excited! Good luck on the pre op liquid diet. Just take it one day at a time and you will have no problem. Keep your eye on the prize. Keep us posted.

I am 4 months post op and have been eating fruit for sometime now. At least 2 months. Fortunately I have not had any issues. Even at 4 weeks I was told to start eating canned fruit with my cottage cheese. Then following my 8 week check in I was told fruit is just fine without the peels.

I am off to Hawaii on Friday 5 sizes smaller than I was last August when I took my last cruise! Woot woot!

That's awesome! I ended up giving up a cruise so I could have my surgery. I have been before and I will go again. No biggie. It was to the Bahama's for a few days.

Yes, what you are experiencing is normal. As you introduce more protein into your system you will actually find yourself constipated. I would almost prefer the diarhea. I still find my pouch sensitive to ice water and liquids that are too hot. For me I prefer cool or room temperature liquids. I am told that it will go away after some time.

I would say I was improved but definitely not clean until the 10 day liquid. When I started that I was 100 percent sticking to the plan. For me I don't drink, smoke or even drink soda or caffeine so I really only needed to focus on some bad habits. I ate in front of the tv and typically did not chew my food as well as I needed to. I was a slow eater so that was not too bad but I focused on slowing down even more. I would say I still eat in front of the tv for some of my meals (yes i know that is bad) and eating slower than I already was is much harder than it seems. If I ever have an issue it is usually because I am eating too fast. The tummy lets me know it right away.

To was feeling the same way at that time. I found I had to simply push through that fog and get going. I started working out using the elliptical and treadmill for 20 minutes a day. I found within a couple of weeks that I could do more and began increasing my workout time. I ended up at an hour a day and then got into a three week stall. I was told I needed to eat more and back down my exercise to 30 minutes every other day until the stall broke. Now I exercise every other day for a total of 40 minutes. I do a fat burn on the elliptical and add muscle endurance to that workout as mine has that feature. I also use the treadmill and do a cardio workout for about 20 minutes. By the way I excercise in the am when I have the most energy. I drink a premier Protein shake which has 30 grams of protein every morning. I work out shortly after I drink my shake. After my workout I have a yogurt with high protein granola. It is replenishing after a workout. I have been very consistently successful with this routine. I also noticed when I first started it was very hard for me to walk up my stairs leading into the lower level where my equipment is. Now, I can literally run up my stairs and I feel fantastic!

Day four...the hardest day yet...
Djmohr replied to Jlkhollins's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi there! It sounds like you are doing exceptionally well. You are probably correct that you were dehydrated after sleeping so long. In terms of fear post op, I had none. I simply took it one day at a time and stuck hard to the post op diet and exercise plan. People get into trouble when they go off plan. At 8 weeks I was told that my tummy should be healed inside and that it would be very unlikely at that point to spring a leak. You just need to take it slow and make sure you get as close to your Protein goals as you can. It is the protein that heals your wounds. Good luck and keep on going, you are doing fantastic! You are going to be so happy as the weeks and months go by and you see the fruits of your labor. -
I am now 4 months post op. I was planning on the sleeve until I actually spoke with my gastroenterologist and learned that the sleeve can make Gerd/reflux worse which would mean a revision to bypass anyway. I also had type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and stage 3 kidney disease which was why I was having this procedure done in the first place. I had RNY on 9/29 and immediately my severe Gerd and type 2 diabetes was gone! In addition I had a fairly easy recovery and have been doing fantastic ever since. Even my kidney function has improved. I have not regretted having RNY for even 1 second. The only thing I di regret is not having it sooner. I might have not gotten kidney disease which is not reversible. Good luck on your decision and your upcoming surgery!

Tomorrow is my surgery....
Djmohr replied to danihere's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there! Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. For me so far, I have felt like I won the lottery! The best advice I received was to walk walk walk & sip fluids all day long. I had a very easy recovery and was off all meds 4 days post op. The most uncomfortable part of surgery is the gas they put in your stomach. The only real way to get rid of it is to walk a lot. I was literally up and walking as soon as I got back to my room. Also that gas made it really hard to lay in bed so I found myself sitting in the chair in my room when I wasn't walking. I also brought a pillow for the ride home. Good luck tomorrow and I wish you a very speedy recovery! -
I am in my fourth month post op and I have no problem falling asleep however I am wide awake by the time I have gotten 5 hours. Then by 5pm I am exhausted and have to fight to stay awake. It really is very annoying.

Sad/Depressed after Gastric Plication Weight Loss Surgery
Djmohr replied to Green1's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Have you had blood work completed to make sure you are getting all the right nutrients? The lethargic feeling could be the result of nutrient deficiencies as well. This could be a combination of your mourning food to cope and maybe not getting proper nutrition. I would certainly talk to your physician as to next steps. Good luck, I hope you can get the right help and start feeling better soon. -
I am so sorry that things are not going well for you. I hope they figure things out very soon so you can feel better. Please take care and keep us posted on your progress.

I am in my 50's as well, I have hypothyroid and am going through menopause. I am losing at a much slower rate now vs. in the beginning. I am probably losing about 3lbs a week.
-
It happens all the time. Sometimes I am a guy. LOL
-
I started with 2 tablespoons at a time. I am not 4 months out and depending what I eat I can eat about 3/4 cup max! If I am eating meat, it's about 1/2 cup max

Poll: Would you have surgery again if you............
Djmohr replied to lovedXJesus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely would. No more diabetes, high cholesterol, Gerd/severe reflux and most important and the reason I moved forward with this surgery, an improved kidney function. -
5 weeks out complication?
Djmohr replied to newlifeb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, call your surgeons office immediately. Sometimes coughing up blood in the first few days is normal but I would definitely get checked out immediately! Good luck and get well soon! -
You should be all healed at this point given your surgery date. According to my surgeon after 8 weeks your tummy should be healed inside. Now, lettuce for some reason is very hard on my tummy and can cause exactly what you are describing. Currently I am 4 months post op and still cannot do raw lettuce salads. I sometimes will put a little on a sandwich and I am finding I can tolerate a tiny bit. I am guessing this is what is causing your distress at this point.

Gas pain and nausea
Djmohr replied to suitechicguy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
100percent normal and very unpleasant! The absolutely best thing you can do is walk walk walk. When you are sitting or laying a heating pad on your tummy provided glorious relief. The good news, it should be gone over the next week. Stay hydrated and walk as much as you can tolerate. I hope you have a speedy recovery! Good luck.... -
Ladies, what do you consider your ideal dress size ?
Djmohr replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never thought I would ever get to a point where I could even think about this. I started at a 24 pants and 26/28 top. I am 5' 11". I just purchased a size 16 pants and was shocked when I could actually wear them Given I have another 72lbs I would like to lose, I could actuallt see myself in an 8! I did go to Victoria's Secret this week and purchased two new gorgeous bras as incentive to continue losing weight. I need to lose probably another 20lbs before they will fit me comfortably. I have never ever stepped into a Victoria's secret store in my life! Pretty things were not for me before. Now, I love to just go shopping and try new clothes on.
