Exhaustion & hard to drink liquids
Djmohr replied to canes2015's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Almost everyone has trouble getting in the 64 oz. of fluids daily. You must try to at least get 48 in at first and then as the swelling goes down it will definately get easier for you. I remember being very weak until I could start drinking Protein and eating pureed foods. As soon as I could get going on that stuff I starteD feeling better. It then got better and better every day. Keep your head up and eye on the prize it absolutely gets better. Good luck! -
@@foodfighter78, it won't be for the rest of your life but depending on how much liquid you are getting in, it could be for a while. In the beginning I had a hard time getting close to 48 oz a day and wAs constipated for the first few months. As soon as I was able to get 64 oz. regularly I have no problems any longer. The other thing that helps is when you are finally on normal food. Fiber and good carbs and some good fats will help as well. I will tell you it still happens to me when I travel and cannot focus on 64 oz If liquid daily.

You gain Water weight in the hospital from all the fluids they pump into you. I promise it will drop off very rapidly. I think I gained 8 lbs while in. GiVe it a week and you will lose that and then some. It is normal and happens to all of us.

Is it normal to stop losing weight at 6 months out
Djmohr replied to tanichaphillips's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It is hard to answer this question without knowing what you are eating drinking and your activity level. I am 6 months post op and still losing 2 to 3lbs per week. I sure hope that does not happen at 6 months. I still have 55 to go. I have been told by my surgeon that you will get the most benefit in the first year. After that it all depends how hard you work for it. -
I was on pureed foods until week 4 post op. Not my favorite stage. I could not tolerate the texture of pureed meats si I lived on cottage cheese, yogurt, soFt cooked and mashed carrots and protein shakes. I was so excited when I got to transition to soft foods although it really did take some getting used to. I could eat three or four bites and I would be very full

My Life, My Journey, My Transformation.... And a few tips and pics

Thanks do much for sharing your story. I know it isn't always easy to do so. -
Congratulations! You look fantastic! I too find myself stopping when I pass a mirror and saying Is this really me? I hopped on the scale this morning and wow, I am down 90lbs in six months! I have another 56 to go to hit goal.

Protein shakes instead of snacIs on top of meals could be why you are bouncing up and down. The best thing you can do to lose some weight quickly is use them to replace your Breakfast and lunch and then have a very light meal for dinner consisting Of 4/6 oz. of healthy protein , salad with light dressing and vegetables. Steer clear of Pasta, bread, rice, potatoes and sweets. If you get hungry in between meals drink 8 oz. of fat free or 1 percent milk. Or have a Light yogurt. If you stick to a plan like this you will absolutely lose weight. Also Make sure you are drinking between 48 and 64 oz. of Water. Steer clear of liquids that have sugar or caffeine, the sugar will hurt your progress and the caffeine will make yOu hungry. After surgery you would be following a similiar way of life, this will help u get ready for it.

Finally told someone & OMG, smh! :(
Djmohr replied to SeahawksGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry that this happened. At one point or more we have all received this kind of treatment from someone in our lives. It comes from uneducated people who do not understand that obesity is a disease and that bariatric surgery can and will give you your life back literally! You do what you need to to feel safe with your decision. Leverage local support groups, leverage the folks on this site to help you in your journey. Once your weight starts coming off and your health improves you can have a face to face discussion with your friend about it. She is just worried for you and does not understand how you are currently feeling about your health. I wish you all the best! Feel free to reach out to me anytime! -
And by the way, malabsorption is nothing to be afraid of. In fact it aids tremendously in weight loss. You just need to make sure you take your supplements which you would have to take with the sleeve as well. As for dumping syndrome there are many people who do not have that situation with the bypass including me. I have yet to get sick and I am six months post op and down 83 lbs. Incidentally I have seen folks with the sleeve on this site mention that they do get a version of dumping.
-
You need to do some research on each of these before making a decision. Everything depends on your specific health issues. The reason to think about bypass vs. sleeve is whether or not you struggle with Gerd/reflux. The sleeve can make this worse, the bypass can make it go away for good. There are a ton of posts on this exact topic on this site. It is a very common question, I might suggest doing a search on this topic. Also there is a ton of information on line and I am sure your doctors with give you the pros and cons of each. I was planning on sleeve only to find out that it could make my situation worse based on my health issues. I had RNY bypass and every single one of my comorbities are gone now. I could not be happier. It is very difficult to answer your question when we don't know your health history. Good luck to you! Keep us posted on your decision.

I feel for you! I had the exact same CPAP experience but I discovered one on the very first night post op while still in the hospital. I knew what it was because my CPAP caused aeroflasia ( not sure I spelled that right) for over a year an a half before we figured it out a year before surgery. That is when the pressure is too high and it causes you to cough all day every day for 1 1/2 years. The pain in my tummy after using my CPAP was so horrific that I did not use it for the first three weeks following surgery. Once I stopped using it I was fine. I was off pain meds within one day of coming home. 3 weeks later I tried my CPAP again and have been using it ever since. Sorry to hear you had this complication but glad you figured it out!

My Life, My Journey, My Transformation.... And a few tips and pics
Djmohr replied to Srreeder's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You have done absolutely fantastic! I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine how you felt back then. If you don't mind sharing, how has the rest of your family responded to your weight loss. You are setting such a terrific example for them. I lost my Mom in 2005 to Both complications of Type 2 diabetes and believe it or not sleep apnea both complications of morbid obesity. She refused to use CPAP even after they told her she likely had weeks to live if she did not do something. She was 66 years old and my best friend. I have been angry at her for the last 5 years because she was ripped from my life, the lives of her grandchildren and her two beautiful great grandchildren which she was so excited to see come into this world. In December of 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease and that was the last straw for me. I could literally see the end of my life following my mother. I have a very close bond with my children and grandchildren. I already had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, severe Gerd, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and now stage 3 kidney disease. I knew I could not lose this weight without surgical assistance. I went from that appointment with the nephrologist directly to an on line seminar about weight loss surgery. Immediately following I called and found the bariatric center of excellence through park Nicollet. I got myself into a live seminar and had already decided I did not want my children to be angry with me like I was with my mom. I had surgery sept. 29th, 2014 and that day, I got my life back! I am now down almost 90lbs and would like to lose another 57. All of my comorbities are gone! Including my kidney disease. My kidneys started functioing normal within 5 weeks post op! Your story is so motivating! I would love to know if it has helped others in your family. Bless you for sharing it! -
Scared mindless! Please help me
Djmohr replied to JeanneKoch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not have said this any better! In fact I had been in the middle of a very long post stating the same things when the page reloaded on me and I lost everything. Please take some deep breaths and relax. The new life that one does get after having WLS is well worth all the anxiety. I would just tell you the anxiety is just a complete waste of your energy. It is natural for you to have some nerves but honestly you should be excited about the outcome. Every single day is a whole new day in a whole new you! Good luck and please keep us posted. Use the links that she posted to do some research. It will calm you down a bit. -
I personally stick to premier protein chocolate. I have not found any powders that I like or can tolerate. I do use Unjury unFlavored in some of my foods, in small amounts I can deal with it.
-
I would be shocked if someone actually said no. In the beginning there is so much change going on that it is hard to keep up with. I know I was very moody And even found myself crying over the most silly things. I do not normally cry. The good news is one you are on normal food and you get your routine down, it goes away. At least It did for me.
-
You definately need to go in. They can help you with hydration for sure and it will make you feel better. Good luck and take care!

You will get sick very quickly if you don't start to get proper nutrition. I too cannot eat eggs. If you eat yogurt, you can buy Protein granola which will also boost the protein. It is very good. If you don't like your Protein shakes you have to find one that works for you. I use Premier Protein chocolate and it is excellent. You can get them at costco or Sam's. No matter how much you struggle you have to take your supplements. I hate to be harsh here but you should have known what you were signing up for. There are not that many to take, you just have to do it, every single day. Honestly sf Jello is pretty worthless. You should be at a point where you can eat fish, chicken, shrimp, cheese. These are the things most of us live on. I wish you the best of luck and sure hope you really focus on good nutrition.

How long after surgery did you start to feel actual hunger?
Djmohr replied to BostonStrong617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I started to feel hunger as soon as I started working out which was at 6 weeks. Now, it only takes a very small amount of food for me to feel full again. Usually 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food. The more protein I eat the fuller I remain. The moment I eat something with more carbs, the faster I get hungry. -
RNY last Monday.....4 days ago.....food questions!
Djmohr replied to marieze's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definately call the doctors office. I could never have eaten a cup of Soup, I am six months post op and still cannot. I wonder if you are fighting head hunger or as someone else said acid is causing you to think u are hungry. I would call asap. -
Freaking out a little
Djmohr replied to missheidi47's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is certainly not ok to do to someone expecting surgery on Monday. What the heck. Have you called the doctors office or hospital to let them know you did not get the call? I would definately do that. -
Feels like starting over - Transitioning from full liquids
Djmohr replied to OneDollarBill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am six months out and my tummy always gurgles. I call her the grouch pouch! LOL -
I was taught not to focus on calories, even now six months later. The real focus absolutely must be hitting your Protein goals, getting 64 oz. of liquid and taking all prescribed Vitamins. If you do that, your body will heal and you won't go into starvation mode. I use myfitness pal to track everything I put in my body and it keeps me accountable. It also let's me know if I hit my protein goals, if I am using too much fat in my diet to do it. I follow the rules around only good carbs (vegies, fruit). If you eat two bites of protein for every one bite of vegies or fruit you will easily hit your goals. Also, as the swelling goes down in your tummy you will be able to eat a little more. The most I can eat is about 3/4 cup. And that depends on whether or not it is meat or yogurt. I can eat a bit more softer foods. The thing is, the protein keeps me fuller longer. I end up eating about 1000 a 1100 calories a day. I only know this because Myfitnesspal tracks the calories for me. I do still drink 1 30gram Protein shake every morning. I use Premier Protein and it seems to give me good energy.

How long does authorization take?
Djmohr replied to JacksdadShane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everyone of us felt the same. My six months ended up going 9 due to doctors schedules. I will say I got approval within 24 hours once my info was submitted to insurance but the time leading up to that was very frustrating. I used that time to begin developing very good behaviors. -
Water: warm, tepid, ice cold?
Djmohr replied to meyouus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six months post op and my tummy still spasms when I drink ice cold liquid. Warm and cool is ok.
