  1. Well, I have done cardio 5 days in a row now. Down 2lbs this week and feeling pretty darn proud of myself. Trying to build that exercise habit and make it consistent everyday is not easy! Before I was exercising 3 times per week and I seemed to slow way down on weight loss.

  2. I avoid Pasta like the plague because it is a trigger food for me. I am 7 months post op. I do eat a small amount of rice and potatoes about twice per week. You just have to be prepared that when you eat those things it is harder to lose during those periods. Also, I did not touch any of those types of carbs until I was about 6 months out. The soft food diet can get old but it is worth the wait because you heal fully and then when you do eat some of those things you will tolerate it much better.

    looking for some help

I had the same problem with the pre op diet. After talking with my surgeons office they told me to drink a very good chicken broth in between the shakes which would be a relief from all the sweet. Canned broth would not cut it so they suggested two options. 1) I could make a homemade stock by simmering a chicken, carrots, onion, garlic, salt and pepper until the chicken fell off the bone. Then strain that stock and drink that in between the shakes Or 2) purchase mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup in a box. The one with the golden egg. Make a batch of that and strain out the noodles. Drink that broth. Because I was 4 days into my liquid diet and was trying to avoid being around good I went with option 2. I swear it was the best thing I had ever tasted. It was hit, rich , salty and a complete opposite to those shakes. It made dealing with the shakes much easier and saved me through the pre op diet and also worked great for my post surgery liquid week. Good luck!

    Oh, the smells!

Yes. I actually believe that is part of being in Ketosis. It definately gets better down the road but it can be very off putting. It happened to me all the time on the first 4 months with many smells, now it is just the smell of eggs for me. I cannot eat them because of the smell, they make me gag and ultimately I get sick. About once a month I try them again to see if has gotten better and with everything else it has improved. Eggs are still a bit of a hold out. Greasy and sweet foods used to do it to me as well but that is now completely gone. Also perfumes/colognes. It will get better!
  5. This is actually outrageous! Unfortunately this sometimes happens when not using a bariatric specific doctor to do the supervised diet. I am so sorry you had this happen. I hope your insurance company does not deny your claim.

    Headed back to hospital

Glad to hear that everything is ok! Rest yourself and get well soon.
  7. Everyone gets nervous and anxious right before this surgery. Take some big deep breaths, read a book, listen to music, anything to get your mind off of it. For me I focused on the end result and how exciting that would be. It actually helped get rid of the nerves. Good luck!

    7 day newbie

LOL! No it is not forever but I know exactly what you are talking about. As soon as you get back on soft foods it gets much better and usually turns to constipation. That up is fun too! LOL!

    Longest day ever.

Almost everyone has that pain. Alissak is right it is from the gas in your tummy. Getting up and moving is the best thing you can do. When you are resting whether sitting of laying, use a heating pad, it really helps. Also use gas x strips and drink lots and lots of water in small sips. Good luck! I wish you a safe and speedy recovery!

    New Bee

Welcome and good luck you guys! Hopefully all the paperwork will happen quickly and you will be on your way to a whole new you!
  11. @, I just sent a friend request. Love my Fitbit! Have the new apple watch coming soon though! Cannot wait!
  12. I really hope it helps and you start to feel better soon.
  13. I hate to say this but have you tried going back to liquids and starting the phases over? I have read on this site as well as others that sometimes it takes some people longer to heal than others. Your new tummy might just need a little more time. I would try going back to full liquids phase for a week. If you start feeling better then try introducing soft foods back into your diet one at a time. I was probably 8 weeks post op before I could eat anything remotely crunchy. If you are not healed, this could be part of the problem. This is just my opinion as I did not have the experience you are talking about unless I was pushing things into my diet too fast. I definately get nauseous and pain when I eat things that are too dry like bread or dry meat. For the most part I don't have issues with any other foods besides bread and eggs.
  14. @@WildGrits, pain melds are notorious for actually creating more pain. I think it is because they make you tired and less able to tolerate the pain. At first they help, for the first day or so and then after that they were of no help to me. Also I was on narcotic pain medication for years following spinal fusion surgery. After many years I still had terrible pain. I read something about narcotics actually causing more pain and decided to stop taking them. I no longer have pain every minute of the day. Yes I still have some pain but I can tolerate it and have found different ways to deal with it instead of those medications. Like ice and heat.
  15. I am so sorry that you have so much pain. Pain is different for everyone so it is very hard to compare one person to the next. I hope you feel better soon!

    One week post-op

Premier Protein is all I use for supplements. Are you able to get through a whole one in a day? In those beginning weeks it is not easy to get to the protein goal but as everyday goes by it gets easier. You might also try drinking fair life milk, it has a lot of protein in it and I remember drinking 3 8 oz. glasses on top of my one Protein shake per day. The reason I was only able to get that one drink down was because I had to split it into 3 servings and add fair life skim milk to thin it out a little. I was able to meet the minimums most days in the beginning. I promise it will get better.

    Pizza?!?!

I have had a very small slice of thin crust pizza. It had all the fabulous vegetables, sausage and pepperoni. It was fabulous but extremely filling and not something I would make a habit out of. It was for a birthday meal for my father n law. I was six months post op and have not had it since. By the way, I made sure that was a big workout day for me.

    Good bye, my love

I agree, it has to be the bread. I get sick to my stomach every time I try bread or buns. One bite and it pretty much ruins my meal. I can however have a piece of toast with no problem. I very rarely ever do that though.

    Dizzy spells 2 weeks out

I would definitely guess you are not getting enough liquids. I experienced that in the first month a lot and was told I was not getting enough liquids in which I knew because I was struggling at first.

    Protein

The only Protein supplement that I use is Premier Protein ready made shakes. You can buy them at SAMs or costco. I have tried other kinds including powders and end up throwing it away. Premier protein has the best flavor, 30grams of protein in one shake and only 1 gram of sugar. chocolate is my absolute favorite but the strawberries and cream is ok too.

    ChewingYour Food

I promise this gets better in the future! You are very swollen for some time. As soon as that goes down, you will be able to deal with eating much better.

    Thirsty all the time

I think wildgrits is correct. It is probably Ketosis which is totally expected at this stage. Also I bet your breath stinks! (LOL, sorry but I know it is probably true). You will also notice things taste different....... Welcome to the losers club!

@@kbmerritt84, congratulations on getting a date for your surgery! I hope all goes well. @@Tiana Harris, Most insurance companies require some type of supervised diet. Mine required 6 months and by the time I got through all of the approvals and what not it was 9 months later. The good news about that is there has to be some good habits built in order to be successful. I used that time to change a lot about my eating and exercise habits. Although I only lost about 13 lbs during that period, I feel like I am better off now because of it. You have to learn to: 1. Chew your food like crazy 2. Eat at the table and not in front of the TV 3. Get up and get moving as much as possible 4. Don't drink 30 minutes before and after your meals 5. if you need a therapists help to deal with any food addiction issues, use this time 6. Cut out all Alcohol, Soda and Cigarettes if you use them. Thankfully I did not have to do this because I don't do any of these things currently. One every 4 to 6 months I would have a cocktail with my stepdad but I only saw him very infrequently so this was not a problem for me. Getting ready is a lot of work and I have learned that slow and steady wins the race! Good luck!
  25. @@KyrieAlaina, You have done absolutely fantastic in such a short amount of time! You don't even look like the same person. You are hot girl!!!! Nice work, now it is about keeping it off which is my biggest fear. I know that is the hard part and I know when I get there I can do it. I am 50lbs from my goal.
