  1. Nutrisystem was the worst. You paid a lot of money and basically the wrappers the food came in tasted better than the good! It was seriously like eating cardboard.

    Acid reflux/heart burn

@@Big Opie, Hi there! I was one of those people with horrible reflux prior to my RNY in September. I have not had a single episode of heartburn, reflux or gerd since my surgery. I take no medications for reflux at all. RNY cured me of that disease! Best thing I ever did for myself.

  7. Feeling relieved! My 3 level cervical spinal fusion went very well yesterday. Of course I have a lot of pai and a very sore throat but already I have relief of tingling and nerve pain down my arms! One more night in the hospital and I go home. Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes. I swear I felt my family and friends including my bariatric pal family surrounding me.

When I had that done a year ago February, it helped sooooo much. Once I got past recovery, I have had no pain or nerve issues at all with that concern. Even the scar is hard to see. It just looks like one of the wrinkles in my neck. The biggest aggravation was wearing the collar for six weeks. Get well soon.

Yes Miss Mac , the collar is not my favorite, I am in a Miami j hard collar but it definately gives me support and I so badly need that right now. Having had 3 levels and a whole vertebra removed was a pretty big surgery. My head is heavy and shoulders are very painful si I am glad u have the collar at the moment.

I am so very tired after 3 days of little to no sleep. Can hardly focus enough to hold my head up. I am sure I will get well soon, I would not have it any other way.

Thanks again for the well wishes!

  11. Good luck to all of you guys! That pre op diet will set you up for success and although it is hard, it is so worth it in the end. After a couple of days you won't even be able to finish all the Protein shakes you are allowed to have. I hope you all have a safe and speedy recovery!
  12. Ugh! I absolutely hate hearing that people in the medical profession behave this way! Of anyone they should be educated on this disease. I am so sorry that you are already having issues like this especially from egotistical people like the physicians you work with. To your point, they have probably never suffered with obesity and the diseases that come with it. There is no easy way out and of all the ways to lose weight this is actually the hardest! There is no going back and it forces you to change. More importantly if you do what you are supposed to, the weight will stay off. God bless you for taking care of others, now it is time for you! I cannot imagine what it is like to work on my feet all day taking care of other people when I hurt so bad at my heaviest. Don't let these horses behinds effect you negatively. They are honestly not worth your time and effort. Good luck to you and please feel free to reach out if you have questions or just want to talk.
  13. @@melisa6115, Walk as much as you possibly can, it will help get rid of the gas in your belly. When you are not walking use a heating pad and chew on some gas x. If you lay in the bed constantly it will take a lot longer to get rid of the gas pain. Also the first night is the worst, it will get better, I promise!

    Am I starving?

Sreeves is exactly right. You have to focus on getting your liquids in first and then Protein this early on. You are still swollen in there and it makes it really difficult to take much in. That means in order to stay hydrated you need to have that Water bottle in hand and slowly sip. Of course when you do have a Protein shake, follow the 30/30 rule. If you are having a hard time with Protein shakes then you need to use a protein supplement in your water. I promise you will NOT stretch your pouch by drinking fluids, just take it slow and sip constantly. Good luck to you!

    My weight loss journey

Congratulations on your successful weight loss! I would honestly recommend that you see a therapist that specializes in bariatric patients. They will be able to help you get that stress eating under control so you can continue to feel great! The good news is you recognize the warning signs now. Good luck to you!
  16. No, not currently. I did have that problem when I was suffering from kidney disease. I would definitely get it checked out right away.
  17. The exact same thing happened to me and I am so very glad that I had RNY. I have not had a single episode of reflux or heartburn since my surgery and we discontinued all reflux medications 30 days post surgery. Woot woot! You will be so happy when that problem is gone! Good luck!

    Yeast Infection......Maybe?

It could be ketosis. There is no mistaking a yeast infection because of the nasty white discharge, smell and itching. It is definitely possible as antibiotics can cause them and they certainly give you enough of those in the hospital.
  19. This morning I am on my way to Minneapolis. I am having a 3 level cervical spinal fusion tomorrow morning, I am hoping it will stabilize my spine and takeaway some of this neck, shoulder and arm pain. I hope all goes well!

    Worries at two weeks

@, Hi there. Don't worry so much about your sugar. What you are seeing us excellent news! Get used to it because it actually becomes the norm. I was type 2 diabetic as well and all my melds were stopped in the hospital for diabetes, I now check my blood sugar daily because yes, they still want you to do that. My resting blood sugar averages around 77! My A1C has dropped to 5.0 and has remained there for more than 6 months now. I am 8 months post op. Good luck to you and enjoy this time, there will be so many good physical changes happening for you every day!
  21. Hi Dee! I do remember, very feeling very weak and tired at the end of that first week. I had been on a clear liquid diet all week and I just was not getting enough liquids even though I thought I was. It turned completely around for me as soon as I was able to move to full liquids and could start drinking Protein shakes. If you continue to feel badly.give your surgeons office a call. Maybe they will allow you to start adding to your diet. Good luck!

    My first appointment

@, congratulations on taking the first big step, educating yourself! The emotions are just part of the process and you have to be ready to take this plunge so you can be most successful. Most of us have lost 100s of pounds on our own over and over again. The real issue happens to be keeping it off long term. I can only speak for myself but once you get older the ease of losing that weight stops and pretty soon it seems to only go in the wrong direction. I had to be ready to move forward but personally I waited way too long. I had sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, severe reflux, high cholesterol, stage 3 kidney disease and degenerative disc disease. If I had to do this over again, I would have done this 15 years ago. Had I done that I would not be headed to a hospital in Minneapolis today to have a very big spine surgery. The good news, I am down 103lbs, I am no longer obese and well on my way to goal. My diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stage 3 kidney disease and reflux are all gone! I feel fantastic and can do things I never thought I would be able to do. Even with a severe spine problem. Take the time to get your head straight and decide if you are ready. If you are, wait no longer, it is only going to get harder and keep you from living a truly normal life. God bless you!
  23. Wow! You have done a fantastic job with your diet so far. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope these guys get things figured out for you very soon.

    Interventioned

Sometimes I wish I had daughters instead of sons! They know just what to say to help you get it in gear. Boys are always afraid to even go there. I have to practically pry it out of them. Enjoy those young ladies, they clearly love you and have your best interests at heart. You have done remarkably! Keep up the good work and I bet if you make some additional changes you will be exactly where you want to be.

    Pre-op diet day 1...

You made it through the toughest day of this whole thing. I promise as the days go by it gets much easier. I think after day 3 I just did not even care anymore. The important thing is to leverage a good quality chicken both to offset all the sweet from the Protein. It is warm satisfying, salty and delicious. Don't use the stuff from a can, I swear it tastes like what toilet Water would taste like. Either make some hood broth from homemade or use mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup mix but leave the noodles out. Just use the seasoning packet and little golden egg and water. I was so thankful when my bariatric team told me to make homemade broth vs. using the canned garbage. Take it one day at a time and keep your eye on the prize. You actually get a lot of benefit out of the liquid diet. Your liver loses weight immediately making the surgery easier, you break a lot of good habits, you end up so sick of sugar that it is hard to tolerate after. Good luck to you on your diet and upcoming surgery.
