    Just when I needed it...

I am so very sorry for your loss! When you lose a pet it feels like you lost a member of your family. I am glad to hear you are going right back after goals. You should be so proud of yourself. It is also always very encouraging when someone says something so kind to you when you need it most. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Stay strong!

Stall out on weight week 3-4

Water and Protein. These are the things that will get you through the stalls. Your body gets used to routine. You need to increase water and protein, if you do those things your body will catch up. By the way, a stall is NO weight loss for 10 days to 2 weeks or more. Your weight fluctuates every day so it it is going to make you crazy, you must stay off the scale. It is only one measurement that you should care about. Take a big breath and keep on going, your body will catch up!
  3. @@Dub I am so very very excited for you! You have clearly done a lot of thinking and researching WLS. You are well on your way to a much healthier life already. I am glad to hear you have kept an open mind about which procedure to pursue. There really is a lot to understand. I too had my heart set on the sleeve mostly because of all the hype. When I went to my first appointment with the Bariatric doctor and Bariatric nurse, they went over my full history. As we began to discuss the different options the fact that I suffered from Reflux and Gerd came up. At that time they recommended that I consider bypass instead of the sleeve. I was devastated but decided I would do some research and get a second opinion. The more I researched the more I learned that the sleeve and band can both make reflux worse and in some cases give someone who has never had it, can cause it to happen. In my case I was already on the maxi u dose of reflux medication so if I had a problem with it post sleeve there would be nothing they could do to resolve it besides revise to a bypass. After I saw my gastroenterologist he definfinately recommended bypass and even told me that the bypass would likely cure this disease for good. Well, after that meeting it was a no brainier for me. I had my bypass on 9/29/2014. I have been off all reflux medications at the 30 day post op mark. I have never ever had a single episode of heartburn, reflux or Gerd. I am down 105lbs and would like to lose another 40 although I look terrific already. I no longer have diabetes, stage 3 kidney disease, knee pain or ankle/foot pain. My sleep apnea has been resolved. I do still have serious spine issues that have gotten worse but that was because I waited too long to do something about my weight. I have normal to sometimes lower blood pressure and my cholesterol both good and bad are now all normal. I feel so lucky that I have a second chance at life! Your story is so inspiring and I really wish you the absolute best of luck as you go through this process. In terms of changing some things now, you are asking at a perfect time. I would suggest going after one thing at a time but for starters stop with the soda. You will never be able to have it again post surgery so ween yourself completely off now so it is not such a shock to your body. Then start with coffee. Practice eating your meals very slowly. Never eat for more than 30 minutes but try to take that whole time to eat your much more normal portions. Also if up you can, practice eating without drinking 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. This was the hardest for me to practice before surgery but I have had no problem sticking to it post surgery. Also if you eat in front of the TV, try really hard to eat without distractions. It helps you pay attention to what your body is telling you. Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress! I am looking forward to your success! You deserve it and are working hard to get after it.

    Flu ????

I just had a neck surgery that heavily involved my throat. Worse sore throat I ever had in my life. I swear it is like strep throat times 100. Still cannot eat solid food. I was able to order Cepastat from the drug store. They no longer sell it on the shelves and it is what they gave me in the hospital. I have 12 boxes of them sitting on my coffee table right now. They are sugar free, taste pretty good and most importantly it takes the edge off the throat pain. I just had a neck surgery that heavily involved my throat. Worse sore throat I ever had in my life. I'm eating like a normal person

This is such an interesting topic and it still shocks me everyday. Normally I would never do this but I just had surgery and am having a difficult time swallowing any food right now. I wanted something other than pudding or cottage cheese so I had my husband warm me up a can of Campbell's home style chicken noodle Soup. (You know, the little red and white can). He warmed it up and put the whole can of soup in a mug for me and then handed it to me. I laughed and said you know this is actually 2 servings of soup and I will be lucky if I can eat 1/3. He went and poured out 1/3,of the soup into a new mug for me. It took me 15 minutes to eat and I still had half of what was originally in the mug. I told him to cover it with Saran Wrap so I could have it for dinner later. He is still shocked by how little I can actually eat. I swear every time I get a meal at a restaurant I could just scream. They serve you enough food for 4 whole meals. When will restaurants start to realize they really are half the problem.

    One year ago today....

@@taterbum, You have come so very far! What an inspiration to others who are just beginning their new healthier life. Congratulations and good luck on the rest of your journey whether that is maintenance or continued weight loss. You should be very very proud of yourself!

    getting cold feet

Take a deep breath and relax a little bit. You already went through all the reasons why you should do this for yourself. Get that list back out and focus on it. Stop worrying about all the things that could, might happen because they are so rare. Remember in the beginning your restrictions are significant but I can eat anything I want. I just do it in very tiny portions. Most of that stuff I really don't care if I ever eat it again. Your tastes really change. Don't worry and keep your eye on the prize
  8. You can definately do this! You just need to plan ahead. The most important thing at this stage will be to stay hydrated. Make sure you take your Water with you and sip like crazy all day long. Take plenty of breaks as well. I am so sorry for your loss and pray you will get through all of this.
  9. What a great feeling! My oldest son was here last night , he is 6'2" tall. He looks good for his height except he has that tell tale sign of a ver small beer belly. He does like to indulge once in a while. I have always been the heaviest in our family. Last night he tells me he need to drop a few pounds because he is at his heaviest. I asked him what his weight is and he told me 225. For the first time in my life I weigh less than him. I am currently 205 headed for onederland. I am 5'10". Although I felt bad for him, I have to say I was so very proud of me for losing 105 lbs

  10. I tried these for the first time this week because I am barely able to eat anything due to my neck surgery. I love the fuzzy navel made with Water as well as the Caribbean cooler. The vanilla bean torte is delicious made with milk. I was actually surprised because I cannot tolerate the taste of Protein but did not have this problem at all with these favors. I am not sure about the other favors but give fuzzy navel a try and see what you think.

    Hairloss and Hairstyles

I have lost 3/4 of my volume. I take Biotin everyday and seem to have good growth coming back but it just won't stop falling out. I went with a short style so it is not so noticeable.
  12. I still like the idea of accidentally kicking him in the coconuts! I bet he would keep his mouth shut from then on! Chalk it up to pure stupidity!
  13. Yep, I would definitely go for the protein drink.

Last day of Pre- op diet

I feel so bad for you having to sit in the awful house and watch other people eat! When I was going through the liquid diet both preop and postoperative I could not get my husband to even eat anything in front of me. It was his way of being very supportive and he thought it was cruel to eat anything in front of me. It kind of made me a little crazy because I knew he was starving and would not eat unless I was in bed or gone. I finally convinced him that my choice to go through this should not punish him in the process. He finally started eating in front of me again but it took a very long time.

    Panni Vs tummy tuck

A tummy tuck actually tightens your tummy muscles as well as gets rid of the extra skin. For me it is a no brainier, I have had two children and must must must get the tummy tuck even if I have to figure out how to pay out of pocket.
  16. Ugh! I would absolutely hate that!

I call mine the grouch pouch! If I am good to her, she does not get grouchy! If I give her things I shouldn't like bread, she gets very grouchy!

    Biotin

Biotin will help with regrowth of your hair. It will NOT stop it from falling out. The sooner you start taking it the better.

    Forget to eat?

I would be surprised if this hasn't happened to everyone at one point or another. The bad news is, your body really does feel it if you wait too long.
  20. I had my lip and between my brows done before surgery. There is no change or regrowth in those areas which is good news because that is expensive and I would have been mad. I do think if we were going to lose hair they should picked some spots that would be more convienient. Not my head for crying out loud!

Will we have to low carb for ever?

I have been eating good carbs since the first 4 weeks post surgery. Eating a balanced diet is the most critical for long term success. So many people do not get that vegetables, fruits, cheeses are all carbs. It is the types of carbs you choose to eat that is most important. I was told 1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall. I was also told 2 bites of good protein for every one bite of healthy carbs. I love my protein and vegetables and that is what I crave.
  22. Hi there! @@ama2414 Did the doctor provide some insight as to why you did not have any success with the lapband surgery? I would definately want to understand what went wrong so that I could make sure up I am set up for success with bypass or sleeve.
  23. I wish you the best of luck with your weight loss goals. I hope that Topomax helps you out. I was on it for about 7 years for the prevention of migraines and was told weight loss was a nice side effect. Well, it did not stop my headaches nor did it help me lose weight at all. In fact, I was at my heaviest weight while taking that medication. I have heard of others having good success. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones!
  24. Totally agree with @CanyonBaby. This really is a journey you both go through together. If you already don't have support, you won't likely get it diwn the road. My husband is obese as well and really needs to do something for himself but in the meantime I do not pressure him. He will make the appropriate changes as he becomes more ready. As far as I go, he is so proud of the progress I have made that he tells my story all the time. We had to see my bariatric doctor this week because I am having a very difficult time eating much of anything following another surgery. My husband went on and on about how engaged I am in this journey, whether it be a support group lead role or simply helping spread the word. My doctor said to my husband that it is really refreshing to see a spouse so excited for his significant other. He really is my biggest supporter. He is my very best friend and has done nothing but support my choices along the way. I would like to think most healthy strong marriages become stronger after this type of life changing event.
  25. I swear I could not pee normally for over a week. That was the strangest experience and I have had many surgeries on my life. I struggled to pee for a long time. Again I wonder if it has anything to do with all the gas they pump into you?
