  1. @@TXhappyday, As everyone else has said everything you are feeling is completely normal. If you were not questioning it and running full steam ahead I would be shocked. The biggest thing to remember that most people do not understand is that obesity is a disease. Logically you tell yourself if I eat less and exercise I will lose weight. The reality is you have a metabolic disease that pushes against everything you do to try to lose weight. I have lost hundreds of pounds over the years only to gain it all back and then some. After I got older (I am 52) I noticed that I could not even lose the weight to begin with no matter how hard I tried. Then the weight really started piling on fast for me. I did not eat a lot, I promise. What I ate was killing me! Literally. You are going to be so happy once you have a tool to help you be successful. Trust me when I say this is not easy either. There will be bumps in the road but you will get through them. By the way, I had bypass. I have thrown up exactly twice in 11.5 months. Both times it was from eating more than my little pouch liked. You learn the rules and then believe it or not you follow them. I wish you the very best of luck with your surgery. Trust that you are making the right choice to get healthy!
  2. @@Babbs Thanks for the suggestion. I may give the whole grain idea a try. If I toast the bread I might have more success with it. Bread is usually hard on my pouch. Also I usually can tolerate a bite or two of rice so maybe that will help. I have been at this calorie count now for about 6 months so I was tempted to bump it up and see if it makes a difference. I feel like my body is definitely complacent.

    Loose Skin

It definitely has a lot to do with age and how long you have carried that weight and how much weight you carried. I am 52 going through menopause and have carried an extra 100lbs and more since I was 26 years old. No matter how much exercise I cannot exercise away the mudslide I now have after nearly 120lb weight loss. I no longer have boobs or a butt, just loose skin. Everything has sort of fallen downward hence the name (mudslide). I will be seeking plastics for my arms, boobs, tummy, legs and even my butt. The only reason I would focus on my butt is it is so bony that my tailbone sticks out and it hurts like hell. At the end of the day, I could not be happier with my result. I am much more healthier and happier person. In clothes I look fantastic, I can deal with the lose skin issue. Good luck to you!

    Protein smoothie

@@meSparkle83 Honestly I steer clear of all/most powdered Proteins. I just cannot stand that gritty Protein taste. I really stick with Premier Protein ready made shakes for that reason.

    Protein

Premier Protein seems to be the best tasting and easiest as they are ready made. The can be purchased at Sam's or costco in 18 packs. You can sometimes find them in 4 packs at Walgreens. The nice part about ready made shakes is you are not dealing with the grit that comes along with the majority of powdered solutions. I will say that my second favorite would be the syntax nectars that can be mixed with Water or milk but you will need a blender or blender cup with the little ball in it?
  6. Likely you will need to go the an RNY gastric bypass but it really does depend on your current health situation. Most centers of excellence are getting further and further away from the lapband. There are more complications that require a revision to bypass with that surgery. If you suffer from reflux at all, bypass is the way to go. It is the gold standard for weight loss surgery and is know for achieving more weight loss overall. If you don't suffer from reflux/Gerd then the sleeve might be the right solution for you however I would definitely ask questions about how much weight you would likely lose with the sleeve. I would suggest taking a class (they are free) at your local bariatric center of excellence. Best of luck to you!
  7. I have always weighed daily and have done very well even through stalls. My longest stall was 28 days. As I am now within 25lbs of my goal I have to say I am ready to smash my pretty glass scale as it has become very frustrating. I knew these days would come but now that I am here it sucks. I have been stalled again now for 11 days and decided this morning not to weigh daily any longer mostly because I am reacting stupidly. Meaning I am adjusting my eating drastically from one day to the next and it is not making any difference anyway. So the moral of the story is, I need to stay the hell off my scale and just focus on sticking to my eating plan. Otherwise my pretty scales will be in teeny tiny glass pieces. LOL!

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!

I have been simply walking as I have been on restriction for nearly 4 months. I am not a fan of exercise myself but I do love the way I feel after.

    What’s in Your Healthy Lunch?

Almost everyday I have 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese with 3 strawberries sliced in it. On days where I have a good leftover Protein from dinner the night before I will have that protein in a garden salad.
  10. I made an outstanding home made low carb chicken parmesean tonight for dinner. My husband loved it and my pouch is very happy now! I used almond flour/meal instead of flour and bread crumbs . Here is the recipe: 1 large chicken breast (I love smart chicken brand) - boneless, skinless 1 egg 1/4 c milk or half and half 1cup almond meal 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesean cheese - all I had was Pecorino Romano and it was excellent! Salt Pepper Olive oil Fresh mozerella - chopped Marinara sauce - I cook this by sautéing onions and fresh mushrooms and then adding my favorite jarred marinara sauce I preheated the oven to 375. I sliced the chicken breast to make a thinner filet using a sharp knife. This made two large chicken filets. Set up a breading station. Place 1/4 cup almond meal in one dish, 1 egg plus 1/4 cup milk whisked with a touch salt and pepper. In the last dish add 1 cup of almond meal plus the parmesean cheese. Mix well. Place a shallow layer of olive oil in your frying pan and turn heat to med/high. Place chicken breast first in plain almond flour, then dip both sides in egg mixture, then roll in almond flour/parm mixture until well coated. Repeat with 2nd slice of chicken. When oil is hot but not smoking add both chicken breasts to pan and brown. You will finish this dish in the oven so you are just looking to brown your crust. Remove chicken from pan and place in baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce around the sides and a little on the top of each breast but don't cover them completely. Some of the crust should be peeking out. Sprinkle with fresh mozerella and cover with foil. Place in 375 oven for 8 minutes. Remove foil and let bake another 7 to 10 minutes to brown cheese. Do not over bake your chicken. Adjust the times accordingly. Mine was very juicy, tender and delicious! Yum! Eat up! I was able to eat about 1/3 of one slice with some lovely green Beans with bacon and onion as my side. Very nice Italian dinner.
  11. I know that premier Protein at costco runs 24.99 for an 18 pack and every so often they run a sale for $5 off each case with a limit of 2. Their recent sale ended August 30th. I always stock up when they are on sale.

    Confused

Yup, she is not wrong. Most companies require a BMI over 40 or a BMI over 35 with at least 2 comorbitities. I am sad to say that if you stay on this route you will likely develop more comorbitities over time but by then you could be so much closer to better health. Are you certain you don't have sleep apnea? It might be worth getting the study done. So many people have it and don't even know they have it. If you did, it would qualify as your second comorbitity. Just a thought.

    Vomiting stomach acid

Have you had your bypass already? If so, you should not be vomiting stomach acid as they cut away the part of your stomach that generates it. This is one of the reasons one who has RNY doesn't get acid reflux. I would call your doctor but it likely is some other issue you are having. It is not because you are not eating. It is possible that you have developed an ulcer. Call your doctor a sap.
  14. @@Mayastone I am glad to hear you made a decision that you are comfortable with. I wanted to reach out again to simply say, don't worry so much about the dumping issue. First, not everyone gets it. I don't. Not at all. I actually wish I did because it would definitely help keep me away from stuff I should not eat. Many people on this site don't dump. If you follow the food plan from the very beginning you will do great. Second, I have read posts from sleevers who dump. There is a version of it even for them. Third, if you are a dumper, you will learn what to stay away from and will adapt. You will lose the weight you need to with bypass and will do great. As I think I said in my previous post, I planned to do the sleeve as well and was devastated when RNY was recommended for me. I am so very glad I had the bypass done and the only thing I regret is not doing it 15 years ago. The best of luck to you and feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.

    Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction

I am so sorry you are struggling! I don't have any experience with this at all but I wanted to reach out and wish you well. Take care and I hope you get answers.
  16. I think it is actually the detox from all the sugars that cause all the taste changes. For many even the smell of overly sweet things can turn your stomach. The smell and taste of some of those Protein drinks especially certain ones with certain sweeteners. Ugh! I had to change what I used almost immediately and fell in love with Premier Protein ready made shakes. 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar, 160 calories. They taste as close to a milkshake as a Protein shake can. chocolate is the best flavor in my opinion but vanilla and strawberry aren't bad either. They can be purchased at Sam's or costco in 18 quantity packs. I have also found them at some Walgreens stores in 4 pack quantity,
  17. It definitely sounds like it could be lactose intolerance. In the very beginning I had this issue and had to switch to lactose free dairy products and had to change to a new Protein drink as well. Now my case was fairly mild but it was miserable and I was not getting my protein in. I switched to lactaid brand cottage cheese because I did very well with it. Also I started using Premier Protein ready made shakes and still use them 11 months later. You might try also re fried Beans. Puréed chicken, scrambled eggs.

    Birthday Cake

I will be looking for answers on this question too! I have been scouring Pinterest and yummly looking for ideas that are made with almond or coconut flour. I cannot use artificial sweeteners due to allergy but could use honey or even real sugar if it is not an overly sweet cake. Thanks for sending this out, looking forward to getting some answers!
  20. @@impact I am so sorry for your struggles! What you are dealing with is my biggest fear and I want to do everything I can not to get to that point so I appreciate you sharing your story. I have often said, if I were to start gaining back weight I would reset beginning with the liquid diet or 5 day pouch test. For me getting all the junk out of my system was the thing that helped me in the beginning. I would like to think it would work for me again. It likely is not the cheese that is getting you. It is probably the bad carbs you spoke of, losing the restricted feeling and lack of exercise. I have psoriatic arthritis as well as just had a 3 level cervical fusion done in June. I hurt bad every single day. My knee, hip and spine are horrible but I know that if I don't at least walk for a period of time, I will not lose weight. I try my hardest to get on the treadmill or go for a long walk every single day. If I hurt after which I always do, I use ice and a heating pad. You must get your body moving in some way but I think you already know that. Then while you are eating remove distractions such as TV. Slow your eating down just as if it were the day after surgery. Listen to your body again. I find when I am distracted it is really easy to simply inhale my food to the point where I am stuffed. Being stuffed is not necessary. Go back to tracking every single thing you put in your mouth using something like my fitness pal. Hold yourself accountable. It really does help when you have to put some garbage you ate in there. You can see the added carbs, fat and calories and know that you won't lose the next day. I wish you the very very best of luck. I think you just need to get started again.

Can I Just Say how Much I Hate Autocorrect

LOL!!! I have had more auto correct disasters than I care to. My son and I laugh about it. He took my phone one day so he could turn it off so he did not get some disgusting text from me again! I cannot even repeat what I typed to him. Let's just say, he was blushing and I have not made him blush in many years. LOL!
  22. @@betrthnever Congratulations on getting approved and your upcoming nuptials! I am not sure that I can help because I did not have a revision. I had RNY bypass and lost nearly 55lbs in that first 8 weeks. I dropped from a size 26 to a size 18. I only know this because I went to Vegas exactly 8 weeks post op and had to buy all new clothes. I had just been released to soft foods a couple weeks before. Now the tricky thing is where you lose which is different for everyone. For me, my butt seemed to go first followed by my boobs. Even after being so close to goal my arms, thighs and tummy is where everything is hanging on. It seems from watching everyone on this site that weight loss differs so much from one to the other in the beginning. I would just assume as you are, that you will likely be somewhere between 25 and 50lbs smaller. Keep a seamstress involved and just go with that. It is the best you can do. Again! Congratulations!

I have a gift for many of you...

I say give people a break and if you don't feel like reading a long run on post, Don't! There are some of us on here that try to read every post because if someone is reaching out they likely need help. To someone else's point you have no idea of how they are posting nor their level of education and more importantly it should not matter. They need help! I for one will continue to read every post that I can and help where I can.

    People's expectations of you...

Ditto on everything everyone said before me! What a a$$hat! Don't let him get to you, just stay the course. He is likely threatened by you and will soon change his ridicule to something else. My sister n law is much like this, in the beginning it was all about how fat I was. Now her big thing is I am too skinny! She is definitely threatened by me and I pretty much blow her off which makes me feel better and her feel worse. I cannot change her, only she can do that. I have no problem telling her to mind her business, that I am under a doctors care. Several of them in fact. Of course I still have 25lbs to go to get to a healthy weight so I am not too skinny. People who are unhappy like your cousin and my sister n law will do anything to make others unhappy right along with them. Oh, and yes she is constantly trying to derail me by bringing Cookies and cake for things like my birthday or other family gatherings. It's just plain rude. I will say sure, I will have a piece and when I get sick I will throw up in your fancy handbag. That usually shuts her up about my not having one. I don't dump at all but she don't need to know that! LOL!
  25. To add to Suze, many don't ever dump from the wrong foods. It just requires even more due diligence in staying away from sugar and fats. I am one of those people who don't get dumping from sugar and fat. I do however get an uncomfortable even painful feeling if I eat bread or Pasta as well as eggs. I get overly full in just a bite or two and then I sit in pain and of course cannot get my Protein in. I simply avoid pasta and bread altogether. I do eat a little egg once in a while just to see if it gets better and it has been improving. If I overeat because I am not paying attention I will actually have severe pain in my chest followed by vomiting. This has happened twice in the last 11 months. It is the worst feeling so I choose not to do it.
