One week to go before surgery
Glyndalin replied to Glyndalin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Doing pretty well. Came home today. How about you l? -
My surgery was at 7:30 yesterday morning. First day was kind of rough. Woke up in post op with a problem with my drain so there was blood everywhere and I had to be changed. Took one short walk but was very nauseous. Next few times I tried to get up were worse. But my nurse got on touch with my doctor and we switched to plain old Tylenol which did the trick. Went for a walk at 1 and 3:30 am. Got my cath out at 6 and went for a longer walk on my own. Things are moving along.

Well I had a few problems post op. My drainage tube leaked and I had blood all over me. I had awefull nausea and finally figured outhat morphine and I are not compatible so we parted ways. Things are progressing better now. Up and walking. I am moving over to the post op board, but I will be checking in to see how the last of the gladiators fare.

Off to the hospital. Here's hoping I'm back to tell you how it went in a few hours. Peace, all, and thanks for taking this journey with me. Glenda

My doctor had ordered an acid reducer (omeprazole), so I didn't have a problem, but I wonder if he prescribed it because other people do.

Hang in there. You can do this.

Thirty-six hours to go and I'm starting to feel nervous. Tomorrow is the Clear liquids day. I have to drive back to Austin in the morning. (I was facilitating a couple of teacher's workshops today in Carthage). That means I'll 4.5 hours in the car to let my mind wander. Not sure that's such a good thing. Deep breath. I've made it this far. Just keep swimmin. Just keep swimmin. Thanks to everyone who has shared your story. The really do help. I don't post much, but I read often.

I'm going Monday (27th). Trying to control my nerves, especially since I have to lead two workshops on Saturday. Just keep swimmin'. Just keep swimmin.'

I agree. That's an awful fast turnaround to lose 15 pounds. Your best shot is going to be either a VERY low (30 gram) carb diet with a calorie cap (probably 1000), or something like Shakeology. The hospital here has a similar "shake-based" diet available. Have you checked to see if there is something similar available to you through the hospital?

That's disappointing. Hang in there.

Congratulations! Up and walking a lot is awesome!

My whole life? o.O In all seriousness, it's been about two and half years since I was 303. That's why I'm opting for the surgery. Losing weight is painfully slow for me, and I've lost 100 pounds twice before and gained it back.
-
Oh, my gosh! I have not had any problem with the 30-carb diet until today. I have 4 more days until surgery but I am STARVING today. Help?

Had my final post-op meeting today with the anesthesiologist and the hospital's dietitian. I've already met with the surgeon and his dietitian and office staff. Go date is 10/27/2014 at 7 am. Whoo-hoo!

This is before the hysterectomy in 2014. I was about 283 here. -

This was after my hysterectomy and six months of working with a trainer on diet and exercise. I had managed to get back down to about 250.© 2013
