Big smiles and hugs to everyone who's already had their surgery this month and are on the mend. It'll be exciting to hear reports as things go on for everyone. I'm curious about the idea of not being able to go home until you can drink 4oz. an hour. I haven't gotten any word on a time frame for release yet. All I really know is that I should plan on at least 2 nights in the hospital. My surgery is next Tues. I'm really starting to get panicky. Still doing the pre-op diet. I sure hope my liver shrinks as much as Jeffery's did. I have to go out of town tomorrow until Sunday night. My father in law is rapidly declining, and I'm so afraid that if I don't see him this weekend I won't have the chance to see him before he passes. I'm anxious to see him, and cry every time I think about saying goodbye. It breaks my heart. I'll miss him so much. I dread having to get on an airplane tomorrow. I tried to book my seats so that I'd have no one next to me. It's so embarrassing when you practically engulf the person next to you. I hope no one else books before tomorrow afternoon. I'll try to keep in touch while I'm gone. -

Hey there Jeffery. I'm so happy to hear that everything went well for you. I sure hope my liver is shrunk enough. I'm really anxious to hear how the next week or so goes for you once you get home. -

Hi. I sure hope you're better by Thursday. The antibiotics should help. If it were under different circumstances I'd tell you to have a couple shots of good bourbon with some honey in it and call me in the morning...... All kidding aside, I hope you feel better, and all goes smoothly for you on Thursday. Good Luck. -

I'm LOL because I know you and I started the liquid diet at the same time, and today I want to chew my arm off. I've had so much to drink I feel like I'm going to drown, but I really want to "eat" something. With my docs orders I'm allowed to have something lite as an evening meal like a salad, but i did that last night, and it just didn't cut it. I'm chewing gum..... -

I can't believe it. I looked at your profile and recognized your doctor's name. I live in Monroe.... I'm having my surgery done at CMC Northeast on the 11th. We definately need to get together. Maybe after we're on our way and feeling good we could meet somewhere ( like a park) take a nice walk and sip some Protein Water together. Message me if you're interested in trading contact info. Please don't question your decision. I think all of us on this board have done that, and after you do it once or twice you begin to realize that there isn't anything on this planet that we deserve to do for ourselves more than this surgery. I'm on Nov. 11th. This group is a really good one. The support is great and the people are wonderful. I think next year around this time we should all pick a date to Celebrate together no matter where we are. How we celebrate can be decided as this year unfolds. -

Me too. I'm really excited too, and look forward to being able to buy those "skinny" jeans next year at this time. Problme is that I'm really starting to panic. I'm not sleeping very well, and I find myself a little fixated on the things that can go wrong. I know that's not good. When I catch myself I try to get back to thinking all the good reason why I'm doing this. -
After surgery daily schedule for meds, vitamins, protein and liquids
Dabliss111114 replied to smiley922's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So many great ideas. I've been stressing over this for the last week now. My surgery is a week from this coming Tuesday (Nov.11) I can see where you could get a little OCD over making sure you get all the Protein, liquids, Vitamins, regular meds, etc. I hope things all fall into place after a couple weeks. Right now I'm doing my 2 week prep diet (liquids with one light evening meal 800 Cal. max). So far so good. -

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Jeffrey, I love your idea of being the "new" Jeffrey. Next year at this time we'll all be "new". Can't wait!! Best wishes you two. -
Having gastric bypass 11/12/14 I need a mentor / buddie
Dabliss111114 replied to phxmomx2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi. Doing fine on the liquid diet. This is my 5th day and I"ve lost 10 lbs. I'm actually allowed to have one light meal of protein(chicken, fish) and veggies while I'm on it. I'm already stressing over how I'm going to get all the Protein and liquid in during the day when I can only manage 2 oz. at a time. I'm having a hard enough time now....it seems like I'm drinking something constantly, and I'm downing more than a small sip at a time. Hopefully I'll get a handle on it after my surgery. -

I hear you loud and clear. I think I'm past the worst of it for sure. Now all I can think about is getting through the next 10 days before my surgery. The pre-op diet is going fine with the exception of a daily late afternoon headache. A couple Tylenol seems to take care of it. I've lost 10lbs. so far. I've added you as a friend, so keep in touch anytime..... -

At the Beginning of the Journey
Dabliss111114 replied to Chrysaia's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do know that my surgeon won't due the band surgery either. It seems that more and more doctors are not doing it because of the number of complications, and the number of patients who end up going back in to have either the bypass surgery or the sleeve. I considered the sleeve but changed my mind when I was told that the chance of stretching the remaining stomach is more likely over time. With that being said I was afraid it wouldn't be permanent enough for me. I desparately hope that as time passes with the bypass option I'll learn how to not only view the part that food plays in my life differently, but also learn that portion control will be my friend forever. My husband is actually thinking of having the sleeve procedure done after the holidays and once I'm on my way with my journey. He doesn't have nearly as much weight to loose (60 -70 lbs.) but he has heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and he has sever sleep apnea. He has to use 3% oxygen with his CPAP machine every night. Most people only need the CPAP to control their problem. You may want to research the sleeve as an option for you if you don't think the bypass is what you're comfortable with. My surgery is in 10 days and I'm really starting to get frightened. I know I've made the right decision, but the anxiety and the fear of the unknown is now keeping me awake at night. -
Bless your heart. I know exactly what you're feeling. I've been in that same situation more times than I care to count. It's so hard to be big in today's world, especially when everything is made for the "average person", who seems to be getting smaller and smaller in size. I panic at the thought of going somewhere like a sporting event or a play, knowing that I'll be too big for the seat, but still trying to squeeze into it. I know people around me are judgemental and it makes me feel even worse about myself. Right now I'm praying that my father in law, who is very old and ill can hang in there for at least 4-6 months because if my husband and I needed to go to his bedside, or his funeral, I wouldn't be able to fit in an airplane seat. This thought brings me terrible anxiety. My surgery is on Nov. 11.. I'm so happy to have found this group. We all are on a journey towards a new life,,,, one that's long overdue for so many of us, and together we can all be successful, healthy and happier.

Hey gang, OK so I've been on my liquid diet since Tuesday and I've already lost 8 lbs. That's the 8 my doctor yelled at me for gaining while I quit smoking. Now I don't have to worry about him cancelling my surgery the day of like he threatened to do is I didn't loose weight before my date. Jerk..... Great surgeon, but a jerk as a person. His ego is bigger than I am, and that's pretty big. I know there's people who are going into surgery over the next several days......I want to wish you all the very best and to let you know that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Look forward to hearing how you're doing afterward. -

Hey Dan, Welcome to our little group. I'm having my surgery the day after you. Yep, the blender will be our BFF. I started my liquid diet on Tuesday. I've already dropped almost 8 lbs. That should make my doctor happy since he yelled at me for gaining 8 lbs. while I quit smoking. I'll add you as a friend so we can IM if you'd like. Keep on sippin'......... -

Shellbell79 You'll get the hang of it. I'm finding that if I click on the tab for new content it will bring up the discussions that you're following (you do need to check the follow button at the top). I then go to the last page or so of posts to see where I left off. That's easier than scrolling through everything. I've also added people as friends so that we can talk one on one. That is very supportive for me. I'll add you as a friend and you can IM anytime. Your surgery is a week before me. (Nov. 11). It's getting very real now...... Good luck..... -
Been a rough few weeks! Don't ignore your body.
Dabliss111114 replied to angb1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My goodness, that really is scary. A lesson for all of us. I know that first few weeks our bodies are under such stress and so many things can happen, we have to realize that the benefits of having the surgery outway the risks. We would have many of the same risks because of our weight even if we didn't have the surgery. I'm so glad you got the care you needed right away. Please keep up posted as to how you're doing. In the meantime take it easy and get well. -

I agree with everyone who says that if you're counting your calories, you're still loosing, and it's something you really enjoy, go with it. The only question I have is about the caffeine. My surgery is in a couple weeks and my doc made me quit caffeine completely. It was awful!! I tried to do it gradually by mixing regular and decaf together in different fraction amounts until I was only using the decaf. It took me a whole month to do it. I happen to really love the taste of coffee, so even though I'm now drinking decaf I still drink several cups every morning. If there a point when the caffeine doesn't cause problems? If so, I'd be thrilled. That would mean that somewhere down the line I could actually wake up by enjoying a morning cup of jo, instead of having to splash cold Water on my face just to function. -
At the Beginning of the Journey
Dabliss111114 replied to Chrysaia's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgery is in less than 2 weeks, and believe me, over the past months I've had the same thoughts and fears that you're having. It's great that you found this group because I've found out very quickly that there are people that are at every step in the journey. I admire you for finally getting to a place where you could tell yourself that excuses won't work anymore. That's a hard thing to do, but it's the most important step. We all have to get to that breaking point before we decide to do something. This option isn't like any of the diets we've all been on. This is life changing and the results will hopefully give us all strength to not abuse our new tummies so that we can enjoy a smaller healthier body for the rest of our lives. You'll do fine..... We're all in this together, and can help each other a great deal.
