I use myfitnesspal to track food and my fitbit for everything else. Since they talk to each other it works well. -
Just had sleeve surgery on 11 15 2014
nikki9 replied to naje78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be afraid. It didn't't hurt but it is the oddest feeling that I can only relate to an alien being pulled out. I did want to punch the dr that took it out. -
Protein pudding not tolerated
nikki9 replied to nprcowboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to water down my pudding with milk until it was thin. I don't know if you tried that. I was told nothing thicker than a milkshake and i probably made it thinner than that. I just do it for the flavor. Nothing else seems to taste good in the liquid phase. -

Your response to: "but you aren't 'THAT' big!"
nikki9 replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I started talking about the surgery I heard you're not that big or you're crazy. So when I actually made the decision to do it I only told a couple of people. My bmi was just barely 40. My weight has always been evenly distributed. I have an hourglass shape and if I ever wore anthing tight around my wasit people always thought that I lost weight. Even when I was gaining. They don't expect me to have a shape. My surgeon told me he has never had to deal with weight issues so he can only understand my struggle so much. He commended me for coming in now instead of waiting until I was sick with diabetes and high blood pressure. The nutritionist said I was only the low end of who they do wls. This is usually because people wait. people at work know that I am off for surgery and I go back to work soon. I haven't decided how I am going to handle the questions. I want to own the decision but I am not sure I want to yell it from the roof top. -
Has any one tried putting Protein powder in a green smoothie post op as part of the liquid phase? this is the only doctor that I found that actually recommends it:
-
Let me know what you discover. I've been doing a green smoothie the last couple of days and have had no issues. I just make sure that it is very thin.
-
Try coconut water. It has electrolytes.
-
I just bought a variety case of the isopure RTD .... I hope I fiind one i like. So tired of protein shakes.
-
I have a 40 bmi and when I was talking to people about the surgery they all said "you're not that fat" or "why are you even thinking about that" When I made the decision to have vsg I only told a couple of people. Since I have to be off work for 6 weeks - some people know that I had surgery. Right now they are all assuming that I had a hysterectomy. I haven't corrected them. I don't know what I am going to say when I go back to work. I told my dad the day I had surgery. He was very supportive but his wife sent me a message that said she was shocked because i wasn't even that big. I haven't responded to her message. I'm sure she doesn't mean anything by it.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!
nikki9 replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved on the 30th. 274 starting weight. 277 highest weight. 265 day of surgery. 255 today - 1 week post op. So tired of liquids but not feeling any hunger at all. Biggest problem is the smell of food. I need a smellectomy. The liquids/protein powder don't taste good and I'm for something that tastes good. -
I always thought RNY was too harsh for me. Going in to this process I wanted lap band. After research I changed my mind. I feel like I just needed a little help. I just barely met the 40 bmi requirement. I was looking to be proactive and not keep waiting making the same mistakes and then wondering why I didn't do something to help myself. The first time I saw the surgeon he wanted me to do RNY. That's their gold standard. He said the data is not there for the sleeve. Once we talked about my migraine medication ... its a NSAID I believe. Then he suggested the sleeve. For that and the top 2 reasons you listed. I hope this makes sense and I'm not rambling. I'm sure if you post this in the RNY section the will give you good reasons to chose that surgery. I know of someone that was going to have the sleeve and at surgery changed her mind to get RNY. Just felt that if she was going to do it she might as well do the whole thing. I'm sure once you make a decision you will be happy. Let us know your decision. Good luck!

Thoughts on sugar free?
nikki9 replied to nails211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Will you keep me posted on your progrss? This is what I want to do too. -
I'm in Sacramento. Mine was done 7 days ago at UC Davis.
-
Good luck

I bought whey protein isolate (flavor less) in bulk. It is my favorite because you can add it to anything. I got samples of the flavored ones. They still taste weird to me. The premier protein tastes like chocolate milk though - not bad.
-
I didn't think about needing new bras! I don't want to lose all of my boobies. I hope my weight loss is proportional like my weight gain has been. ... but I can lose all of my stomach!
-
Did you tell your coworkers about your surgery? (Sounds like it) you should be excited. That 80lbs wasn't easy! Enjoy the attention.

Thoughts on sugar free?
nikki9 replied to nails211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't like artificial sweetners. I think they are unhealthy. I had moved away from them prior to surgery. I had been making changes to have a whole foods lifestyle. But I'm only 7 days post op ... so I'm forcing down the artificial sweetners because the doctor said so. They didn't give me a sugar free popsicle in the hospital and I did not have a bad reaction. So I'm sure I can have stuff with sugar if I wanted. -
How do I get all this tape off my body?
nikki9 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is so much left over stickyness on my body from all of the IVs, staples, etc. I've been using soap water and a face cloth to shower but I'm so afraid of rubbing my staples (which I've done). I look like a mess! -
I can smell the lasagna in my house!
nikki9 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on October 30th! Why do I have a sense of smell? Weren't they supposed to remove that with my stomach? I smell the lasagna and I just wan t to lick it! I guess I'll take another sip of my Protein shake :-P
