carbs.. when are they allowed?
nikki9 replied to dacosta.juli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been living on mashed potatoes and Protein powder during my puree stage. In addition to tuna and refried Beans. I probably will not be eating mashed potatoes after I am able to eat other foods. -
No more chewables! Tell me about your vitamins?
nikki9 replied to une nouvelle vie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I get mine from HSN. I like them because they are capsules and I can open them and get to the powder if I need to. They are very gentle as I do not like taking vitamins or horse pills. I don't feel like I can swallow them. -
Outpatient Sleeve Surgery Yesterday
nikki9 replied to Thenewnic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get your protein in. It's important and so is walking. Walk as much as you can. It seems to get things settled in your body. My doctor said 30 minutes a day at least for the first 2 weeks. They have since moved me up to 45 minutes. -
@@Inner Surfer Girl thank you! I'll go look over there!

A little scared this has been pretty easy for me.
nikki9 replied to llmccay1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I totally agree. Who complains about something being easy? me! that's who! I haven't had the pain or discomfort that I was expecting. I was sleeved 10/30. I still seem to like the smell and taste of food. I can eat more than a 1/4 cup of my puree food. I have no actual feeling of fullness. It all scares me. I don't eat more than 1/2 a cup of food and I take 30 - 60 minutes to eat it. I do it on purpose because I'm trying to learn not to eat so fast and that's what the NUT/Dr instructions state and luckily I don't feel hungry. I feel like I'm still obsessing about food only it is different... it is am I getting enough Fluid or Protein? is this puree of soft foods? am allowed to eat this or should I wait? What am I going to do when I am allowed to eat normal food.... what if I don't ever feel food? How will I know what to do? -
@@Elode my 2 favorite food groups: Italian and southern! LOL! @@nprcowboy I've seen some random links around. it would be nice if we could them all in one place and categorized for each phase. I haven't played around enough in this forum to figure out how to do it.

@@Elode You're awesome! I'm going to try both of them. I think I am going to need you to write a cookbook!
-
I need puree recipes! I've been eating the same mashed potatoes or cottage cheese or tuna over and over. I hve to do puree for 2 weeks before I can move on to soft foods!
-
My doctor's office says 2 weeks. I thought it was because of pain meds which I had stopped when I got out of the hospital. Come to find out it was because they don't want you using your abs. Go figure. After I wad told that I realized how much I actually use my abs when I drive. Never thought of it.

I am only in puree stage but if I have to take medicine that needs to be taken with food ... How do I do that if I have to drink 30 minutes before eating and 30 minutes after? I like to take my Vitamins with food too. I've been trying to figure this out but I end up eating a little and take the medicine with Water and continue to eat which means I am not following the 30 minutes before and after rule.
-
Thanks guys! And I think they are all capsules so I can open them and take them that way.
-
I've never been able to take pills without liquid. I have a hard time doing it with liquids as it is. Didn't think about this issue preop.

Congratulations!

How do I tell work I am having surgery?
nikki9 replied to tfarr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know much about FMLA but I thought you can get it for each "incident" like migraine and asthma would be 2 separate banks of FMLA time. -
I got my freebie today. grande decaf skinny vanilla latte with Protein. Unfortunately they messed it up. They didn't mix the Protein powder in the cold milk before steaming it. I watched them mess it up. It had clumps so I spent a lot of time declumping it. The taste was great! Perfect coffee fix! Thanks guys. Next time i will be sure to explain how to prevent the clumps
-
Really? I had no idea they had protein powder! Thats very exciting. Maybe I'll try that with my freebie.

I was thinking about getting a decaf skinny vanilla latte ... I think it is 90-100 calories I have a freebie I need to use. LOL!

Regrets after Gastric Sleeve Surgery, is this normal?
nikki9 replied to Wmc1231's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm with Elode ... I have yet to get 60oz and I am 15 days out. I average around 40oz too. Even when I sat down and sipped 1 oz every 15 minutes ... I couldn't get 60oz. My nut told me to get 75 Protein but I have yet to get more than 65 .... usually it's between 50 and 60. I was very good about walking the first week and half and have now fallen off. All thst is to say I feel the same frustration. .. did I fo the right thing. But as I sit here I just finished 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and realize that it has taken all day for me to eat it. I'm not hungry and that is so unusual. I'm not going through my cabinets looking for something quick and unhealthy to eat. This can only be a good thing. -
It appears to be a process they are moving away from. My surgeon said they don't recommend the band and they have all but stopped doing them. He didn't actually tell me I couldn't have it but he recommended sleeve or bypass. I did sleeve but I don't think anyone in the goup of 15 people that went to tge nutrition meeting with me did the band.

Was anyone sleeved outpatient?
nikki9 replied to Thenewnic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I could have done it outpatient I would have - or so I thought. My surgery center keeps you over night to do a leak test and to make sure there is no nausea. I was kept 2 nights. My blood work was not stable. They waited until they were stable and I stopped "throwing up" (a whole other story) to send me home. I was glad to have been there both nights and to have been offered another night if I felt like it. I really wanted to come home. When I got home my bed was not anymore comfortable than the hospital bed. I end up sleeping on the sofa. I felt good after surgery and totally felt like I could have gone home. I would say just to have a game plan in case there are any complications. -
I totally know how you feel. Any time anyone invites me to the movies I go. Everyone knows I go for the popcorn. I'll see any movie but I have to have popcorn! I can't imagine going to the movies right now.

@@Aribay1 I was sleeved on the 30th! As long as I don't see it or smell it I'm good. My son brought a pizza home one day and I wanted to lick it. It smelled so good. I'm still on liquids. I start puree tomorrow. so frustrating. I want to chew something. I know most of it is in my head because if I didn't have to be aware of getting Protein in I wouldn't think about food. But sitting on the sofa counting the amount of liquids and protein I see commercials and my brain thinks hmmmmm. I know I've been going stir crazy. I just got released to drive yesterday. I am willing to drive anyone anywhere right now.
