I was 6 months out before I tried coffee again but then I had a very rough start post op. I always use fat free vs sugar free in my coffee but that is what I was drinking before surgery. I eat/ drink everything else sugar free because sweetness has intensified 100x's post op which really doesn't leave too much that is not carbonated but that is ok because water works for me. Good luck. Just try a little at a time and see how your pouch tolerates it.

It is interesting how Dr.'s have different views. My Dr.'s rule is 30/60 which is hard like you say because it is not like we can chug-a-lug water. Hahaha.

4 months out & still don't feel hungry....
Doxie Mom of 3 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the dr last week for severe dry heaving & nausea and explained that it is hard to eat because I do not get hungry. Does anyone else have this issue? She sent me right over for an upperGI and will have an endoscopy soon. The upperGI showed everything ok but omg I can't eat and have no energy. Any recommendations greatly appreciated. -

Help! 4Months Post-op and dry heaving
Doxie Mom of 3 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As my tag line says I am 4 months post-op and I am dry heaving quite often after eating and some times even if I haven't eaten. The only things I am able to eat are fruits and veggies. Typical day I eat one orange and a cup of mushrooms/carrots and on occasion I can eat shrimp. All other Protein makes me nauseaus. Anyone else having these issues? So tired of having no energy and unable to eat anything. When will this get better? I am sooooooo regretting the surgery. At this point I wish I never had it. I want this feeling to change but right now I am mentally stuck. Any advice would be much appreciated. -

I too have this problem along with excessive dry heaving at times. Ughhh... I can hardly eat anything and hate to try new try new things because of these two issues. I am 4 months out and eat very little at all. I have an appt with my Dr. in a couple weeks so hopefully they will recommend something. Good luck to you. I hope this improves for you. -
Which food tracking app are you using?
Doxie Mom of 3 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning! I have downloaded several food tracking apps but haven't found one that fits my needs quite yet. What I am looking for is one similar to the weight watcher one that has an extensive food database & caloric/protein calculations etc. Just curious as to what you are using. Thanks in advance for your recommendations Have a great day! -
Any tips on avoiding loose skin.....?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to newxina's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My doctor advised me skin removal surgery is very common after wls. Working out will help but it is possible for it to be an option for you when you get to goal. My BFF lost 130 lbs and still needed a tummy tuck. It is all a personal choice. For me the focus is getting to goal and then I will worry about excess skin. Good luck to you! -

Dining out with coworkers?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to Bryan Graeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One other thing I recently learned is your Dr can provide you with a card that confirms your surgery and you present it to the waiter and they will often really adjust your size meal and price. Wls is so common now that a lot of restaurants want to cater to us. Some restaurants won't let you order from the kids menu unless you are a kid but with this card they may now. We have a lot of friends that like to go to buffets and I told the cashier I had wls and she charged me the kids rate. That was really nice since all I ate was a very small amount of mashed taters and small amount of cottage cheese. That way we felt like we could still go with our friends and save $$ too. Good luck! -
nauseous all the time

I know this post is a few months old but wanted to add lemon helps with nausea. I drink ice tea with lemon when I go out to dinner because I do not eat much when I do and it helps with that kind of food where I am not sure 100% how it is prepared. Good luck! -
After surgery daily schedule for meds, vitamins, protein and liquids
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to smiley922's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have a med pill container for morning, noon, mid-day, and evening. I have to take lots of pills as I am sure a lot of the gastric bypass ptients do as well. On Sundays I fill it for the week. I work from homwe so leave it at my desk and take them throughout the day. I have room for improvement inactually taking them that is for sure but I am getting there. I need to do a food app too so I can show my Dr. what I am eating. Good luck to ya! -
Does everyone have a drain after surgery?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to cpower100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had medial gastric bypass and did not have a drain. But I do remember my drain from my gall bladder surgery and it was a pain to deal with and painful period. -
Help how to slow down
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to jackie's journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I concur with the above posters. When I eat I use a small bread plate or my small child sized Mickey Mouse bowl or ramikin for soups etc. small bites and put your utensil down in between bites. Small utensils I have not tried but my Dr. Did mention it now that I read the above post, I had forgotten about that. Love this board -

I am 4 months out and have tried hamburger, turkey meat, pork, halibut, tilapia, shrimp, and chicken. At this point the only thing I can tolerate is on occasion chicken and have no problems with fish & shrimp so I try to stay with that. My friend who had the sleeve eats turkey Jerky almost daily to get in her Protein. With jerky though you need to watch the sodium. Good luck to ya!

How many oz could yall eat 2 1/2wks post op?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to 3sprintcar's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the gastric bypass so my surgeon had me on soft foods about the time your hubby is at. Mine told me 4-6oz meals but right now 4 months out I have to remind myself to eat because I don't get that hungry feeling I got pre-op. Frustrating but I am working through it. Good luck to you both as it is definately a change for a couple when one or both have wls. He is a very lucky man to have you. I know I am too with my hubby. -
Dining out with coworkers?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to Bryan Graeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What I do is split a meal with someone if you feel comfortable to put that option out to your co-workers. You never know someon else might be watching their weight too and would appreciate it. I too eat Soup a lot when we go out. Pre-op I had no issues taking home leftovers, now post-op the thought of eating leftovers makes me nauseated for some reason. So my hubby gets to enjoy them. I too try to eat from the apps menu but sometimes things on their are all fried so it just depends. When we go out we try to go before the dinner menu switch over because the portions tend to be smaller and the prices are cheaper often times too. Good luck! -
annoting personal questions people ask.

My husband has been doing the "you can't eat that" and I am 4 months out. Granted I have only been eating solid foods for a few weeks now and still introducing new foods to see how my new pouch handles it. While it annoys me and I have to remind him to please stop monitoring my food I am glad he is involved and concerned for my health so I can't be too mad at him. I would keep your reaponse positive but short and don't give them the option to rebuttal. Good luck! -
What to do about Thanksgiving?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to ready2B's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I see now that you are having gastric bypass. Please undersand that people who have the sleeve have quite a bit different recovery and meal plan than us who have/had the gastric bypass. Be sure when taking advice that you make sure to check with your Dr. first. S/he will tell you what you can and can not eat. -
What to do about Thanksgiving?
Doxie Mom of 3 replied to ready2B's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I kinda echo what others say. I am 4 months out. In the beginning I didn't tell my family only my hubby of course and my BFF's because one had the sleeve a year prior and provided me with wonderful support. After several months I had come to the realization that I need to own my decision and anyone who didn't support me I didn't need to be around. For the first time I was putting myself first. Once this happened I told many people and was pleasantly surprised at how supportive they were. Shockingly so. You don't mention what type of surgery you are having so I am using my knowledge of my medial gastric bypass as advice. Right after surgery you will be on Clear liquids....sugarfree popsicicles, SF Jello, clear broth (low sodium). DO NOT eat creamed corn!!!!!!!!! My Dr. Advised corn is a never ever again food because you can not digest it. Please please do not try it esp. 2 weeks post-op you can tear something and cause damage. Secondly milk is a never ever again as well unless it is soy so cream corn is out! I would have a conversation with your son and explain what you are doing and that while you would love for him and his gf to come visit that you won't be doing "your" traditional turkey day and that you might be going to a friends house. Do not push your self. Rely on your grown kids to help you. Best of luck to you!!!!
