    Devastated by this

I hope you've gone to the doctor by now and are feeling a little better. Have you talked to your kids about why you vomit all the time? I think having a conversation with them about how "Mommy's stomach hurts sometimes and she can't help throwing up" would shed some light on what's going on for you. Obviously they are picking up on your sickness, and talking to them about it can help them see it's not something you enjoy, but is something you are trying to work out with your doctor. Maybe you can give other examples of people who have special things they do, like a diabetic giving themselves a shot. They sound scared about it, and maybe a little reassurance that you are mostly ok and are working on this will help them feel better. Hope I am not overstepping any bounds here. Good luck!

Addiction, Emotional Eating and the Band

I can totally relate to your story. I have found that after I had the band and wasn't able to eat mindlessly like I used to that I overeat to numb myself from uncomfortable feelings as well. I myself am kind of scared of groups like OA or AA, so I am doing individual therapy and read a little bit from a self help book each day. Between the therapy and the books, I am finding awareness of my actions and the motives behind them. Geneen Roth is one of the most famous writers about compulsive eating/dieting, and I've been steadily working through her books, as well as her work book. I think that getting down to these deeper parts of ourselves and what actually causes us to overeat is the only way to be aware of what we are doing, and then allows us to take the steps to regain control in our lives. All the best to all of you and your journeys!
  5. Sounds like you are having a really hard time with the band. I am in the same boat with the yellow-straight-to-red thing, and I know how hard it can be to NOT EAT EVERYTHING when you've been forcibly fasting. It's so hard. I am definitely strugging with that. As far as your 'psychotic episodes,' they sound really stressful and I hope you are not experiencing them anymore. As a counselor and someone who goes to counseling, I've found it very helpful to help me cope with the stress of the side effects of the surgery. I get angry at the band, especially when I can't hold down liquids. I definitely did not sign up for dehydration as a form of weight loss!! I hope your story turns around.

    Should I celebrate?

Every day you wake up breathing is a reason to celebrate! I think sometimes we people who carry extra weight also carry extra guilt around, and don't feel like our achievements are worth as much as the next (skinny) person's. The main thing here is you are moving along in your journey, and what's not to celebrate about that? Three cheers for you!

    Please help me, I'm MISERABLE!

Hey there- sorry to hear of your struggles. I am also having a difficult time, but thankfully have a very nice surgeon who fits me in whenever I need to adjust my band due to extreme restriction. I have had it for over two years and have never had a sweet spot experience. I'm either eating almost as much as I could before banding, or unable to eat anything, and sometimes can't even swallow water. I hope you get some information from your appt that you can work with. Let us know how it goes.

    unsupport from my boss...need advice.

Honestly. The things that come out of some people's mouths. I would really go talk to her manager, and see what you can do about getting her to stop. It is true that you volunteered the information when you didn't need to though. If only we could take back our words sometimes!! You might have to live with that though, in that she might not change her ways no matter what her supervisor or you ask her to do. I'd really try to get out of that job if I were you. IF she keeps harassing you maybe her manager can help you find another job with a reccomendation or something? But that is unfair. SHE IS THE ONE WHO SHOULD LEAVE. I told someone at work too, and instantly regretted it. The people who havent had this struggle just don't understand. Good luck hun!

Help: Pain in Throat, Chest and Back

Well, I'm glad you got some help. You may need the pills now, but it may be temporary. Do what you need to so you don't hurt and maybe later down the road you don't need them. What a bummer though. I'll be thinking of you
  10. I love when people are supportive!! Congrats! Also, way to go on losing so much before hand!! Good luck on your journey
  11. I understand the mentality you have- you are doing it because other people are holding you to it. Remember though you are doing this for yourself too!! I'm sure you can get another personal trainer if this one won't help you anymore, and if your doctor won't see you frequently enough maybe you can check in with a nutritionist or go to some sort of support group to keep up with the positive changes you have made in your life. I KNOW you can keep it up after all this time!! Believe in yourself, get the help you need and keep at it girl!! We are all rooting for you!

    Loose skin???!!?!?!?!

Someone on another thread mentioned body wraps as a way of tightening loose skin. I don't know anything about them other than what the website says, which is sure to be positive. When I get there (haven't been banded yet) I think I'll try this before surgery just in case it works. Anyone had experience with this??
  13. Wow what an adventure! I just read the whole thing. Congrats on your successful surgery!!

    Doctor approval

Thanks for all the tips and stories. Glad to know docs are often better about it than your own family even!! Or mine at least. Very gudgemental my family; though they are all big too and maybe the idea of me actually doing something about it threatens them. Thanks again!
  15. I currently go to college and my nurse wants to send me to a MD to get my medical approval for the surgery. I'm really nervous about going to see some doctor for the first time and asking for surgery that a lot of people think is unnecessary. My nurse knows me and knows what I have been going though, but who knows with this new doc. I'm just so nervous he or she will turn me down with the prescription of diet and exercise. Anyone have experience with this?
