I was heavy since I was 4 years old and was bullied viciously until high school and by that time I had absolutely no self esteem... Whenever I went in public I was given dirty looks for being in the "skinny clothes" stores... People are always saying "you could be gorgeous if you were thin" and I'm thinking to myself so I'm not pretty now ? I just want to ask if anyone can relate or tell me if they got self esteem after the WLS

I can sympathize with you because after all the bullying and criticism over my life I can't find anything positive about myself inside or out... I can't even accept a compliment from people, I end up saying thank you but it doesn't go past that. If I find a photo I like of me, the more I look at it the more I find to criticize

Shaelya I know how you feel because diet and exercise never seemed to be enough for me either... I took phentermine as well and like you said it helped but it would trigger my IBS a lot and make me sick quite a bit and every time I went to a doctors office or a hospital they would think I was a drug addict because it would make me pop positive for speed or something like that... I know how frustrating it can be to try it all and be depressed every time it doesn't work, but we are all here for a common cause of taking back our lives so take comfort in the knowledge that you are not alone.

I totally agree about feeling you have gotten lost along the way. I've been so heavy for so long I don't ever remember being skinny except for pics of my first 3 years of life which is emotional enough to think I'll look in the mirror and see a different girl and that maybe for once I will like my own reflection

Thank you very much

Johnathan I'm sorry to hear of your bad experiences too... Sometimes I think that if I had some visible illness like cancer that people would judge me less, but what they don't know is that obesity is just as difficult and deadly as cancer or anything to that degree. I am very happy to hear that low self esteem will go away as well as medical issues because I have quite a bit of physical disabilities that can really make me feel like a freak.

Has Anyone Else Gone Through This Problem of Skin Hanging?
SwimSlim92 replied to tmartin1023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Brian Green Thank you very much for this tip ???? when I get my surgery I will definitely try it, also my sister had her WLS 2 years ago and recently had a tummy tuck that went bad post op but is now healing and she would love to try this -
I'm 5'3" weigh 274 pounds.... I'm at the beginning of my journey and have high hopes for the outcome from my bypass when I get it

Hey everyone I'm starting my journey and have everything planned except I don't know who to see for the psych eval... Can anyone help me ?

Sandy S I am in the beginning phases of my 3 month multi disciplinary program and am so excited to be changing my life, scared about the surgery itself, anxious about the post op weight loss, and worried about my family comparing me to my sister who had Gastric Bypass 2 years ago and be disappointed if I don't do as well as her or lose as fast as her. I can totally understand the emotional storm that accompanies not only the surgery but the lifestyle change that comes with it
