    Opti-fast Week 2 Weigh-in

Way to go. Good surgery day. Let us know how it goes.

    Drinking at meals

Because of certain medications my mouth is always dry. I drink a lot not because I am thirsty but to swallow without gagging. So I also drink at meals as well as during the day. My concern is whether drinking at meals on top of my 'cup' of food max is stretching my stomach. I am not more hungry or anything. My surgery was Sept 19.

GEHA Bandsters do these figures look right?

In Canada, I paid 15000$ for surgery & now all post care.

    Exercise and eating

Not getting your period can be a sign of lack of nutrition - especially calories. Feeling sluggish can be a sign of lack of balance between food & exercise. Muscles speed up the metabolism and so being more muscular requires more calories than the same amount of fat would. Keep up the health habits.
  5. I had my surgery 19/9. I have basically eaten alone since surgery. As I mentioned in another post I told only my husband & 2 teens. This week I am staying with my brother's family. How have others of you people managed eating so much less than a standard plate without telling about the band.?
  6. I too had trouble getting to 65g of protein. I just did my best by drinking some protein drink each day. It is only a short period.

    Hernia

For me, I had no real symptoms of heartburn or whatever and only knew last minute that the surgeon would repair it if it existed. I had no upper GI scope or barium testing. So, I was very surprised to find out that my surgeon had repaired 'a big one'. As my surgeon said post-op: '2 surgeries for the price of 1!'

    Perrier Water

I didn't clue into the no carbonated beverage until after the surgery. I would say I have done everything I have been told from the written instructions. Except I did try diet pop (my favourite bad habit). I have had no problem at all. I know. this doesn't mean It's for everyone. If I had started having symptoms ,burps or gas, I think I would have stayed away. But I am delighted by be able to indulge.

    3 weeks post op

I am now at 5-6 weeks post op. I have bought little two pronged forks & very small (jam pot) sized spoons at the dollar store. I am making myself put down the utensil or item of food between each bite. I will download the app mentioned above. I am not hungry much but when I am late for a meal, it is really hard to make myself eat slowly enough.
  10. Applesauce and there are some mixed with carrots and peaches. I didn't stay over night so my perspective of what to bring differs from the participant above
  11. You can't keep anything with you at all - as in an iPod. You take the medication before so you might nap pre surgery.

    Who did you tell?

I discussed it first with my husband. My two teens know - just for simplicity sake. The only other person who knows is my boss. She directly asked me and I trust her. I missed Thanksgiving to avoid the issues of food quantity.
  13. Planning food for lunch at work is going to be a lot harder without peanut butter sandwiches as a staple. I hear you about the bread - what about peanut butter? It is sort of doughy
  14. I hope I can learn to chew enough & to eat slowly enough soon. The smaller portions is easy but the slowly and carefully part is hard. I will try harder to prevent the stuck feeling.

    September banders

I have lost 8 lbs since Sept 19th but I don't see it in my clothes or looks. I am not having trouble with eating less- I don't feel hungry but I still eat too fast. I don't chew enough nor do I take long enough between bites. Any ideas?
