  1. I'm 2 months and a week post op this month. I went to an ugly Christmas sweater party yesterday and I cheated...had some mixed drinks for the first time since my surgery. I'm down total 25lbs which is a bit discouraging to me but my doctor tells me I'm doing good. It turns out I'm losing inches fast and she says the scale will eventually catch up. Anyway I took some pics yesterday and I finally see the weight loss. My face is covered because I would only like the people I told to know about my surgery.
  2. As I got ready for my day this morning I saw an old pair of jeans. I decided what the heck let me give them a try. Last time I tried them they wouldn't go up past my thighs. So there I went slipping my feet in, past my thighs, and buttoning them up with room to go! I went out today feeling so great about myself and then it happened, my first compliment from a coworker, saying I looked great and that I lost weight. I'm 4 weeks post op with no fill yet, but I do feel restriction, and I can honestly say I LOVE MY BAND! I remember my first week after being banded and thinking maybe I made a mistake, watching my family eat in front of me pizza, the confusion of thinking I'm hungry but finally realizing it was head hunger, the battle of making sure not to over eat, and finally I'm here. I know they're will be days where it will be tough and I may slip up, get off track but my band has showed me it does work if I work with it. I started at 247 then went down to 237 pre op and today I'm down to 222. My weight has stayed steady at 222 for a couple weeks and I'm ok with it but the change I have noticed most is how my clothes fits. Needless to say I'm one happy gal over here.

Thank you! Yes I am healthier and I have to keep reminding myself that's it's not a race almost everyday. With my second fill I do notice the change in my eating habits, almost like food is boring to me now lol. Other times I'm like getting a plate full of food because hungry then laugh because I only can eat a cup of it. It's definitely a change.
  4. I'm at the doctors waiting to get my first fill. A bit scared but will let you all know how it went when I'm done.
  5. I got my second fill on 12/09 and I'm still feeling the restriction thank goodness. I'm down 7 more lbs since the 9th so I'm pretty happy. I have my 3rd fill in mid January but if I'm still feeling restriction then I'm going to hold off. Good luck in your journey.

Hi all, wanted to give you an update. I had my second fill this past Thursday at 1cc so now I'm at 5cc. I'm definitely feeling the restriction. I'm down 5 more lbs since then. I started lifting weights and doing cardio 4x's a week now and I cannot believe how much energy I have. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced a jolt of energy?
  7. Good morning all. I had my second fill this past Thursday. The doctor didn't use a numbing shot this time but it wasn't painful at all. I did notice my port site to be tender the next day but not bad. With my first fill I had little restriction the first week then nothing after. This morning I made an egg, mushrooms, and spinach ( 1 cup total) . Yummy but OMG I ate maybe half of it and I'm stuffed...so stuffed I was scared I was going to have my first stuck episode. Felt like I had a lump in my throat and my mouth started watering (tmi). I walked around a bit, and said a prayer, promising I would eat much slower if I didn't get stuck. It went away after 5 mins. I have to admit I'm a bit sad I didn't get to finish eating because it was really tasty. I'm guessing this is part of the process. I keep thinking if I didn't have my wonderful band how much I would have ate just this morning.

2 weeks liquid diet but I was allowed 1 actual meal a day. It was hard but my doctor said its for my liver to shrink. He said a fatty liver can bleed easily during the surgery. I listened but a woman that also had surgery the day I did didn't and she bleed, he was really upset.

    3 days post op

You should call your doc and let him/her know you are starving lol. You could pop a suture (ouch)! This is usually the time you start to realize what is real hunger and head hunger.
  11. Everything you wrote is exactly my life. I was banded on 10/13 and have the same struggles. I started to prepare my meals, meals I know I would like, for during the week. This has really helped me because I would just for something fast to eat which is almost alway never healthy. As for the exercise, I started parking further away so I would walk. I also told someone who I know would stay on my case....my mom. She's now my workout buddy and it helps a lot. Hope this helps, Good luck to you!

I didn't want food but if I smelled or saw something delicious I would want it. Those first few weeks sucked for me.

    4 Month Followup

Getting my second fill this week...hoping to get in the green zone soon. Will be 2 months post op next week and weight is at a stand still. No complaints though. I'm feeling great and staying active. Glad to hear you're doing good.
  14. Hello everyone, Hope everyone is doing well. I'm 3 weeks post op and feeling great (minus a cold my son gave me). I'm down 15 lbs with my first fill on 11-09. I was wondering what some of you may do while eating to slow down. I'm putting my fork down but sometimes I catch myself eating fast. Today I was able to wear an old pair of jeans that hasn't fit in over a year and I was so happy!

    3 weeks post op

That's about the time I started feeling hungry again (2nd week going on to week 3) also. It's because the swelling from the surgery has started to go down. My doctor let me have puréed foods around this time so I just did that. Just be careful because you have to let the sutures heal, if your doctor is ok with you eating solids, eat slowly. I hear it takes some people about 3-4 fills before you feel restriction. I had my first fill and I felt restriction for a week but now, nothing. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  16. Well...that was tough! I attended a house warming this evening which included tons of yummies and margaritas. It felt like the people who know I had been banded kept watching to see how much I would eat. I got small plate and made sure to stay out of the area, as for the drinking I stayed away also but still had a great time.

    Help - starting over

I could never give up my coffee. I promised to give up sodas and other stuff but I can't kick coffee. I tried tea but it's not for me.
  18. I'm the same way one. It's been a month and I'm still at only 20lbs down. Getting a second fill soon and hopefully I will notice the change. Sometimes I don't even feel like I have a band.
  19. I had restriction the first week but now I feel like I lost some of it, like I can still eat and not be full. I'm sticking to healthy choices but hungry every 3 or so hours. I go back 12/09 for a second fill so will keep you updated.

    3 weeks post op

After my 4th week I felt so much better. The head hunger stopped and so did the pain in the chest. Be patient you'll feel great soon.

    3 weeks post op

No I don't miss eating the way I used to at all.
  22. I had my first fill on 11/09 and I have 4cc in my 10cc band. I'm not hungry until around 12:30 but when I do eat I can have a more than a cup, but still small portions, probably 2 cups. I'm eating slow and if I do eat too fast I feel like I'm going to get stuck ( pain in chest almost like heartburn) so I stop. Is this my "green zone"? Or am I supposed to be eating less than a cup in my green zone. Just trying to make sure I'm doing this right. I've last 3 more lbs since 11/09, yay!
  23. I'm one month post op and on solids as per my doctor. They had pigs in a blanket, chips, salsa, guacamole cakes, cokes, and mini taco bowls. So basically for me it was all slider food. I decided to get the mini taco fillings minus the bowl. My biggest problem in the past was not being able to stop eating when socializing. It was funny because I went back for more cherry tomatoes and bumped into someone and held a 5 min. convo and then I realized, I'm not hungry and I need to stay out of the kitchen, that was my light bulb moment. The great part was I felt satisfied and there was no need for me to unbutton my pants after eating lol jk.
  24. Thank you for the info. Didn't know it took a while to actually feel the restriction. My doc said he didn't fill my band but turns out he had put 3cc in there, not sure why he didn't want to tell me. As for the fill, they gave me a numbing shot (didn't feel it) and then gave me another cc, so now I have 4cc in my 10cc band. I'm on liquids for one day and soft foods for the next day. All in all it was no biggie and I couldn't be happier.

    Newbie

Congrats! The first couple of weeks are the worse but it gets better. It was hard for me to get comfortable also when going to bed. I bought a body pillow and tucked it under my belly when I slept on my side, it helped provide support and I slept much better. Good luck.
