October 2014 sleevers check in please!

I keep seeing people talk about stalling...I'm not down with that. Not looking forward to it. Is this just some sort of necessary evil? I assume everyone responds differently, biochemically, to it as it occurs.

    First Appointment

One thing you could consider asking is how long the surgeon is contracted to be "in network" with your insurance provider. Albeit, you may not receive a direct answer. Also ask your surgeon if he will admit you to the hospital as "observation" instead of "inpatient". This impacts how the hospital bills - ultimately impacting how much you may owe - your hospital stay. "Observation" tends to be more cost effective.

    First Appointment

I think the procedures vary from surgeon to surgeon. On my first visit, it was a very extensive meet and greet with a lot of individuals. This included, an insurance specialist, registration specialist, registered dietitian, behavioral health specialist, nurses and the surgeon. It also included a physical examination and an EKG. Dont worry, i didnt shave either!

    Feeling like this is...

@@Jennifer Rogers, i am glad you are having an easy recovery! The profound lack of hunger still surprises me. I've been learning to listen to my new anatomy and feel what its telling me. So far so good. Good luck to you on your journey.

    Ummmmmm...?

You should be fine. I've taken some larger than normal pills since my surgery and haven't had any issues. Bear in mind everyone is different but you should be fine.

What are you eating post op?

For the first week post, i was eating clear liquids; drinking rather. I was allowed to progress to semisolid foods beginning the 2nd week post op. At that time my eating consisted of refrained beans, low fat string cheese, yogurt, egg whites, sugar free pudding, 1% cottage cheese and various protein fortified desserts. I have been cleared to progress past semisolid foods at my discretion and will try fish today for dinner. Mahi mahi is one of my favorites!

    Hows the libido?

I haven't experienced any drop in drive. I would assume that things should right themselves at some point.

    Wondering....

Hi @@Jennifer Rogers. Always check with your surgeon before attempting physical activity that you are unsure of. You surgeon has a very good idea of your internal anatomy and suture conditions. Some surgeons can be very lax regarding this area and some arent as much. It's just always a good idea to check in with them about this type of thing.

    Best San Antonio Surgeon?

Hi @JaneJaneDoe. I highly recommend John Pilcher in San Antonio, very knowledgable, excellent skills and bedside manner. Let me know how things progress for you. Good luck with everything!
  16. Hi everyone, 500+ when i started this journey. Looking forward to many, many changes. I wish you all the best!
  17. I went 10 days after my surgery with only one drink of Metamucil, three days prior. No problems, albeit it was slightly larger than normal and i did strain a little. Im regular every three days and i had started semisolid foods three days prior to this first BM.
  18. Hi, @LisaLou30. I know you can do this! Sometimes it can be discouraging when unexpected circumstances seem to put off or threaten to put off your surgery along your journey. If your physical activity has decreased because of your injury, you should definitely consider decreasing caloric intake. I used the premier shakes for my preop diet, one for breakfast and lunch and a normal meal for dinner. The meal consisted of 3oz of lean protein and 3 oz of non starchy veggies. It worked for me and provided results. How is your fluid intake? For me, my body seemed to like water more that any other zero calorie liquid.
  19. @@TSJackie, Thats still good. I think i may visit some gyms next week. Great job on the loss! What kind of restrictions are you still on? My surgeon lifted most of mine during my post op visit, except for heavy lifting. I also plan to return to work n 11-3. That should give me plenty of time to settle into my diet and find some things i really like. Like your new profile pic btw!
  20. @@TSJackie, impressive! I haven't gotten into a gym yet but ive been thinking about it. I am doing well and have just been focusing on liquids. I have been walking regularly. My first post op appointment was 10-22 and i recorded an 18 pound loss.
