  1. A lot people seem to think surgery is the easy way out and we have no will power or something. It is the opposite. Having surgery takes a lot of commitment and will power. It is not easy. Diets dont work and some of us need that kick to get our bodies back in gear. Or in my case my body was never in gear. I have been on every diet including diet pills and starvation and never lost more than 20 lbs. With my sleeve I am loosing real weight and my diabetes is gone. My liver is healing from the abuse of being overweight my entire life. It is not easy. .you still have to follow a meal.plan and exercise it just a tool like everything else. Don't think of it as a failure but a reward to yourself. And your family.
  2. I cant get it work on my phone (droid) It opens a million ads then closes. Too bad would love to use it
  3. I didn't have any issues but do eat very slow and small bites. I am 6 weeks post op and can eat just about anything except carbs..I ate a bagel and threw it up. The only thing I miss is smoking! ☺
  4. I loved it..i was so happy to taste food again! I ways been a yogurt freak and i lived on greek yogurt for days! haha
  5. I wish I had known how hungry I would be during the liquid diet and had cut back on carbs and sugars before that stage. I think that would have helped with the headaches and how awful those two weeks were! I found the surgery and such very easy but I had researched a lot before hand. Do get up and walk as soon as you can, evenug the nurse. I walked the evening of my surgery and I think it helped make my hospital stay much shorter (two days') I tell you one thing I did that I am so glad I did! I bought new sheets for my bed and a couple of loose fitting nightgowns that were soft and warm. I found being in my own bed so much better and it really helped! I found I was getting more tired than I thought and the bed being special helped me recover fast.sleep better... I also brought energy drinks with me to the hospital, as they don't give you anything but Jello, tea Water and horrible bouillon. I couldn't get any of it down and the energy drink (I love Isopure carb fee,,comes in good fruit flavors..not shakes, but the fruit drink) was a god send. I also brought my own robe to the hospital to wear over the gown they give you.

    Having the poop issues again

I don't eat red meat at all as it doesn't sit right with me so it might be the problem. How much water are you drinking? I also eat a prune or two for my morning snack. I cut way down on cheese and bananas which are consipating and don't eat any white flour. I also eat a lot of salmom eggs and kale. ..hope this helps

    overthinking things....right

I dont think 3 lbs in 5 days is bad. Remember the first 5 to 10 lbs is water. But if you think you have hit a plateau then you might not be eating enough. Really!

    Cheated postop...concerned

I think the pre op liquid was the hardest part of this process. Shrinking your liver is so important. The dr needs to get around it and if he cant no procedure. It depends on your age weight and health if cheating is going to affect your surgery. I have NASH from the diabetes and being fat my whole life so the preop diet was extremely important for me to follow. My liver was very "sticky"but I was able to get my sleeve but my dr said he had to be very careful. I would tell your dr you cheated so he will know we what to expect when he goes in.

    Diabetes

Hi everyone. I have my pre op appointment in two weeks to start the liquid diet and will have surgery in December. I am diabetic and need to loose about 80 lbs but am mainly doing this because I am diabetic. Its been frustrating over the years because my body starts to resist all effort and now I am taking insullin . I would love to hear from y'all about if this really does get rid if the diabetes. I am having a SIP where is the sleeve and they also do the bipass my dr says it help with dumping and malisorption problems. I honestly am doing this more for the diabetes because I have been fat my whole life and don't even know if I have a thin side of me. I have no other health problems even though I am 57 years old. My blood pressure is actually low and I had to do a stress test because my heartrate is low (no problems) I am also rather hyper and active and wonder.how this will change me. Thanks for listening. I cant wait. ..very excited to not have to do shots anymore

    NEED HELP!

I agree everyone is different. A lot depends on how much you need to loose too. But if you havent had counseling with your dr then you need to seek it. I eat 60 to 70 grams of Protein a day and fill up the Proteins. I dont eat any carbs and only if I am still hungry will eat greens of some sort. If I eat fruit I count it as a carb Get a food diary going like fitness pal. I have found my sleeve doesn't seem as Small because I can eat two hardboiled eggs for breakfast. Eat every three hours protein protein protein. And start walking .even if its just a mile. Every day. if you still arent loosing I would see your dr. You might have something else going on

    How long did it take?

Mine was about a year as well between diet and all the pretest. The tests alone took 3 months. ..got my approval after the weight loss but my doctor likes to do testing to make sure there are no surprises.

    Long term regrets?

I agree it hasn't been around very long and I am only 2 weeks in but I love it so far. Have so much energy and the weight is falling off. And havent had diabetic drugs or insullin since liquid diet a month ago. Very little pain and was back to work in a week.

    cookbooks?

I am a cook by profession (actually a pastry chef...I know, crazy, isnt it?) and love to cook. I am one week after surgery and still eating all this liquiod stuff, and can't wait to start cooking! I have been looking online and bookstores for some decent cookbooks, and have found some great blogs, but I really would like a good cookbook or two. I have several issues, not only the sleeve, but I cannot eat carbs or sugar AT ALL because of a fatty liver. I was suppose to have bi-pass and couldnt because of my liver and I am hoping the sleeve will work for me. I have found several good books on gluten free that will help, but I was also hoping for high Protein recipes that aren't high in fat. Where is your favorite go to for ideas? Being from the culinary world, I already started playing with some ideas that I of course can't test yet and my husband is already telling me to write a cookbook since there seems to be a need for one out there. I am going to fer sure try to dream up on treats using quinoa flour! Looking forward!

Has anyone experimented with this yet? You basically take plan greek yogurt a packet of steevia and a half scoop of a protein powder. Mix and freeze...It sounds delish..
  23. I had the sleeve surgery to not only loose weight but for my health. I have been diabetic for 20 years and it gas almost killed me. I have done all I can to keep the sugars under control. I would diet and my blood sugar wouldn't drop enough so I would be starving and shaking and overeat. The meds made me hungry. Starving. I knew I needed a tool to overcome that..I wanted full bypass but I could barely do the sleeve because the sugars have destroyed my liver. I weigh 200 lbs have no colestral problems as actually have low blood pressure. I would like to drop 50 lbs but the main reason I am doing this is the sugar. I have been off meds for three weeks . now and off insulin unless my sugars go to 150. They haven'tin two weeks . I have a ton if energy food is no longer controlling my life. That I s what keeps me going. Not loosing weight or if I can wear skinny jeans but that food doesn't control my life. Sure I miss greasy pizza and a big crunchy salad..and even biting into a crisp delicious apple. But I want to live a longer life. That to me is more important
