  1. It's always a struggle to get all the Protein & water but I can really tell when I don't get the protein - definite loss of energy. I use the 3+3 vitamins & my blood work has remained optimal.
  2. Yes, in FL - Venice, near Sarasota - fantastic surgeon - also operates in Brandon.
  3. Wishing you the best. I'm 76 - had RNY at age 74. Only wish I had known about it earlier. I'm off all meds & healthy & strong. Just follow all the rules 100% You've made a great decision - it's a life saver & a life changer!!!

    Hi from Texas!

Hi from FL - 76 years old, lost 95 pounds, still doing Pilate Reformer. Life is Good!!!
  5. Pixie, I Celebrate my 75th BD next month. I had the "Y" 18 months ago and only regret is that I didn't know about it years ago! Just came back from surgeon & all my blood work is perfect for every Vitamin & mineral. Yeah!!! I am on NO meds for first time in 30 years. I thanked both my Dr.'s again this week for not looking at my age & saying I was too old. Went from 205 to 112 - from size 16+ down to a 2. I feel good, but most important advice from me 1)Always pre-plan ( think of yourself & your needs first - have your Protein & Water with you forever & know ahead where & what you will eat) 2) Don't buy NEW clothes for 11/2 years. It felt so good that I did, always thinking surely I wouldn't get smaller than this! Cost me lots! 3) Lucky you with sister for support. I still go to monthly support group when not traveling 4). When allowed, get back into whatever exercise you love - for me it's Pilates 5). It's never over - I'm still learning what I can/cannot - should/shouldn't eat. 6). Latest change for me was finding the Bariatric 3+3 Vitamin. Love them & they supposedly have every vitamin & mineral that Y's need. You suck on them like a treat. Best Wishes - you're definitely NOT too old!!! Will be waiting to read your after report. Oh, Yes, I started a journal before & kept it up with before photos & my analysis of why I got myself in that mess, then the amazing journey of loss! I still add to it occasionally when something special happens or I'm having strong feelings. You'll enjoy going back to it - I highly recommend doing this!!!

    3 days until Surgery.

I'm 6 months post & best decision I ever made! Only sorry I didn't make it sooner. I turn 74 next month & feel better than I have in 20 years! You'll do great...just follow the rules...this is the first time I really took everything seriously.
  7. Any over 70's still out there & checking in? I'm 6 months post op and will turn 74 next month. I feel better (& look better) than I did at age 50!! Clothes size from 16+ to an 8, and only meds are preventative.

    Protein

I also can't drink enough shakes to get my protein. I use Proteinex P18. 2 Tablespoons equals 18 g of protein. I'm sure I ordered it from Bariatric eating.com
  10. I am 72, 5 weeks post op and just drove alone for 2866 miles. No problems, just had to take a shot in the stomach each morning to prevent blood clots. Problems remain in difficulty getting enough protein and water. Energy still not back to normal, but I walk 2 miles a day and yesterday went back to hour long ballroom dance class. Best Wishes to all during the holiday season!
  11. Really important to me to stay in contact with those of you over 70. I'm one month out and feeling very successful. However I still have not been able to get an 80 g of protein. Another huge problem is I can't swallow the B complex pill and then opened up it tastes terrible even put in yogurt. Is there a B complex out there anywhere that isn't so horrible? I have a reluctant surgeons permission to drive from Florida to Arizona next week. However I have to take shots in the stomach every day to prevent blood clots. Feeling a little nervous about spending four months away from my support group, my nutritionist, and my doctor. Wonderful blessings to all of you this Thanksgiving time!
  12. Jodi, what protein are you most satisfied with. I dread all mine and take it like it's medicine. Would like to find something more tolerable.
  13. 73 and three weeks out from surgery. You are right, I'm sure it's different at this age. I'm very careful about getting all my meds and vitamins but still unable to get in enough protein and fluids. I'm still waiting for strength & energy to return as I plan to drive from FL to AZ by myself in two more weeks. Will be harder to fix "food" along the way. Stay in touch 70 something's....we're tough, we can do this.

    SLOW LOSER

My calcium and Vitamins are my treat of the day...chewable from GNC...guess we all need to keep sharing and learning until we see what works for us. My problem is still the protein...gag

    over 70

Sure would like to hear from others in this group...I'm 2 weeks post-op

    Let's get acquainted.

Surgery went well. I'm two weeks out with no nausea or pain. Haven't shared my journey with anyone except very supportive husband. Tonight going to a restaurant for the first time. I planned ahead, I will have a cup of soup broth, and if "tiny tummy" likes it, a little of my husbands tilapia. Friends will have to get used to someone that isn't hungry.
  17. 3 weeks out and if I just didn't have to eat I'd feel great. 1st priority, meds which are ground to powder and hidden in 2 oz of cream of wheat, applesauce or sugar free pudding. Next, vitamin supplements - chewable and good from GNC. Then starts the daily struggle to get the protein. I can't possibly get 80 g, going to meet with the NUT today to see how I can get more protein in.
  18. Love my Fitbit. Have 5000 steps as goal (2 weeks after surgery). Would never get the steps if I didn't have this constant reminder.
  19. 8 days out, only problem is that I can't get my liquids or my 80 protein in. Walking 5000 steps, still a little tired.

    I'm terrified

You'll do great - my surgery was 8 days ago...I only had someone with me for one night and have been alone all week. You'll be truly amazed that it takes up your entire day taking all your meds, vitamins and trying to get in all your protein. I still cannot get all the protein I'm supposed to have. I just still feel too full. I'm making sure to walk at least 5000 steps each day. By the way, I'm 73 so if I can do it I'm sure you will both do great. God Bless You! You've finally made the decision to make your own health 1st priority!
  21. Oh, my, email me...I'm in Venice and also scheduled for Oct 29th for bypass in Venice Hospital. Tatonsaunders@yahoo.com

    Let's get acquainted.

Mondaylady in TX...when is your surgery scheduled? I'm scheduled for 29th of Oct. Have last visit with surgeon today. No turning back now. Have lost 10 pounds on Opti-fast....nothing else, for last 15 days.
  23. JTS

    Let's get acquainted.

I am 72 and have my RNY surgery scheduled for 29 October. So happy to hear from others in the same age category. This seems to be the most positive group that I have read, the others were making me a little hesitant and anxious. My surgeon said I look 15 years younger then my actual age on the outside. But on my tests they read like a person 15 years older than my actual age. High BP, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritis, hip replacement (and more replacements to come if I didn't get the weight off), Barrett's Esophagus (and four out of six family members with cancer). It feels like it's the thing I should do, but certainly helps to read there are others out there like me. I live in Florida and Arizona. Love travel, making stained and fused glass, music and theater. Very active in my Inter-denominational church, and have a very supportive husband of 53 years. Starting tomorrow, three Optifast drinks and Water, nothing else until the surgery. Looking forward to the connection with each of you. JTS
