    Broke the 300 barrier!

Way to go! That's no small feat! Much continued success!

    Bad knees, what will work

Every extra pound you carry adds 5lbs of pressure to your knees. I listen to Doctor Radio a lot on satellite and the orthopaedic guy stated the number one way to reduce knee pain is weight loss. I have one buggered up knee and its markedly better since I've lost weight. I know I have no cartridge in it (found out from a knee surgery) but it doesn't hurt near as much as it used to. When I go to my circuit training class it gets sore but by the next day it's all good.

    Lasagna?

Sounds like a good idea to me!
  4. I would've been absolutely mortified if someone had tried to approach me with this, no matter how sensitive or caring their intentions were. It took me a long time to come to terms with the changes I needed to make to live a life after WLS and that's a very personal thing. As an obese person you absolutely dread anyone trying to "help" you make better choices. When people ask me now how I'm losing so much weight I tell them I eat a lot less food and do a lot more moving. Unless they themselves are in the same boat I was, then I explain my journey. But only if they ask. Otherwise, and this is hard for me at the best of times, I keep my mouth shut.

Tell me what makes YOU special.

I've got a smart mouth and a smart mind-both of which helped me to survive the loss of my little boy and go on to have 2 sassy daughters.

Totally frustrated and don't know what to do

I think you need to ask yourself that if you lose weight is he going to change or will he nag/verbally abuse you about something else? I have a dear friend with the same issue and when she did lose weight he found something else to b*tch about. Have you thought about marriage counselling? Sounds to me like he's looking for an excuse to do whatever he wants and can blame on your weight. Just my opinion. Please know that my heart aches for you and I hope you can find some peace with whatever decision you make.

Pre op day 13- Need advice!

I was told it was more important to hit my fluid goals than my protein goals those first few weeks. You absolutely must stay hydrated or things will not go well. If I got one shake a day in I was happy.

    Dumping and sleeve

Ice cream and sugary foods make me feel like complete crap. Sometimes as a reminder from the universe, they make me nauseous and then shoot right through. Nice to have these little reminders every now and then....
  9. You look great! And so much happier! Congratulations!
  10. I absolutely felt the same way. But I know that doing it my way for the last 45 years didn't work so I had to defer to the experts. When I woke from surgery I was elated-mostly because I didn't have to worry anymore whether to go through with it or not. Not one regret since.
  11. At the gym I go to we do bear crawls-forwards and backwards. Never could do the backwards part until now. Huge personal victory for me with many more to come.

    What irritates your sleeve?

Sugar. Can't have anything with sugar without getting nauseous. Let's hope it lasts forever.
  13. I know I had a lot of fears too the night before. But not doing it was not an option for me. It's a normal reaction to a life changing event. Take a lot of deep breaths and keep going. All the luck in the world to you!
  14. I too am now astounded by how thin people eat. It amazes me to see people eat a regular portion in a restaurant. I couldn't even if I tried. I hope to one day be the person people look to as a healthy portion eater, rather than view me as a cautionary tale. I'm 3 months out from surgery and my mind is slowly making the shift...

Serious Question. How is WLS the "wrong way"?

My thoughts: its viewed as the wrong way because people who are overweight brought it on themselves and should have to tackle it themselves. Well thats crap. If there were a surgical option for people with drug or alcohol addictions/problems no one would second guess the genius of it. There's a huge prejudice against fat and the media and ignorance fuel that fire. I struggle with telling people I've had WLS because in one way its none of their business but am I making it worse by acting ashamed by my choice? A real conundrum for me.

TV Shows - What are you watching ?

    Love love LOVE Veep
  17. I used the "get up and do something else between bites" tonight and it was outstanding. It really helped to slow me down and be more mindful. Excellent advice!

    Need some experienced weight losers

I am undergoing the same thing not far from you. I have qualified for the surgery through a ton of hard work. But its the mental game that had to change, like you said. I told, and keep telling myself, that doing it my way for the first 45 years of my life hasn't worked out that well. So clearly trying something else is the answer. I deferred to their expertise.
