I had a hernia repaired and now have scar tissue forming. The scar tissue along with the swelling is not allowing hardly any liquid to pass. The doctor wants me to wait until the swelling goes down (another 3 weeks of liquids!) to see how much I will be able to get down. If still not enough they will have o use a scope with a balloon to open it up some. It's a minor set back but nothing I can't deal with.

No liquid diet no drain
Rebirthnow replied to kimpossible67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't have a pre-op diet at all nor did I have a drain. Surgery was 11/04/14 everything went great! -
The reason one person can have UHC, Aetna, BCBs, etc and have it covered and another person can have the same company and not have it covered is the insurance companies cover what your employer contracts with them to cover. I work for UHC and UHC has a bariatric exclusion written in our contract. I have a friend that works for a title company and they have coverage through UHC and it is covered. It's based on what your employer contracts with the insurance company to have covered.

Was anyone sleeved outpatient?
Rebirthnow replied to Thenewnic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 11/04/14 I. Houston, TX and it was an outpatient procedure. I didn't have any complications, was walking around the hospital after a couple of hours in recovery. Slept in. Y recliner the first couple of nights because it was easier to get up then being in the bed. I also had a hernia repair. -
I work for them as well as have them for coverage and mine was excluded as well.

Surgery Scheduled 11/17/14...Any last minute tips?
Rebirthnow replied to ksdrn12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just sleeved 11/04/14! The Gas-X strips work wonders. I will be praying for each of you. I agree with the other posters as well get the sugar free Popsicles and sugar free jello. The pillow is a good idea especially if you have to cough. Be sure to get up as soon as they allow and walk, walk, walk, that's what helps the gas pain in your shoulders and back; the strips help with the gas in your belly. -
Congrats on your surgery! I had mine one week ago at True Results in Houston.

Any November Sleevers for 2014 need surgery buddys?
Rebirthnow replied to happymama2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't have any pain at all. My post op diet has only been clear liquids so there was really nothing in there but water and broth. I bought the Milk of Magnesia last night but did not use it as I felt a few rumblings in my stomach this morning and was able to go on my own. -

Rebirthnow replied to happymama2014's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My instructions were to take Milk of Magnesia or Magnesium Citrate if I hadn't had a BM in 3-5 days. I'm 5 days post op and finally had a movement today. -
I haven't had any nausea. I was also prescribed and ant-nausea cream to be applied t my wrist but I haven't had to use it.
-
Congrats!! I am four days post op as well!! I had blurry vision due to the nausea patch they put behind my ear, but once the patch was removed it went away!

Your Dr. needs to submit a pre-authorization form to the insurance company. It explains why you need the procedure. The insurance then reviews it and either approves or denies the services.

Where are the November Sleevers?
Rebirthnow replied to ToccoraVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you! I'm so glad it's finally done. I have a short neck so the gas gets trapped causing the sore throat..... I had really bad acid reflux. I was given a liquid narco as well as a pill that has to be crushed if needed for the pain. -

Got sleeved 11/04/14! Gas pain was the worst but walking and gas-x strips really helped. I too had the nausea patch behind my ear that made my vision blurry. The vision issue went away once the path was removed. Sleeping in my recliner has been wonderful as trying to get in and out of the bed proved to be quite painful. My throat was very sore but medicated throat spray helped ( even sipping water was painful). I feel so much better today. I was able to have the broth from a can of chicken soup and it was wonderful. Popsicles have been great as well! -

Pre-op complete, surgery is a go! Check in Tuesday 11-04-14 at 6:00 am! I am so excited!! -
The after care is what I am really concerned about.. Thanks for your honest review. I have a list of questions for him tomorrow. I am a very analytical person and often make myself crazy analyzing ever little detail so I require them to put everything in writing so I can read, read, and read again until I have clear understanding. The decision to have the surgery was made lightly so I don't need anybody to be able to say after the fact that they told me something different.

That's Good to Know!! I have a pre-op with him tomorrow 10-31. I have been on an emotional roller coaster these last few days. I am so ready to get it over with. How has your journey been thus far? My initial thought was the band but decided to go with the sleeve.

There are many insurance companies that have a bariatric exclusion in the policy due to the contract your employer has with the insurance company. It doesn't matter if it's BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UHC, or Joe Blow down the street, your employer negotiated the contract with the company. If there is an exclusion it will not be covered even if you can prove medical necessity. There are lawyers that will take the case and try to get it covered but that often is a long process and still no guarantee. I work for UHC and it is excluded, therefore I am self- paying. Hope this helps!
