  1. Hi all. Not sure if this is a dumb question, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so I thought I'd throw it out there for your wit and wisdom! I have (as of today) already lost 17 pounds since surgery, which is awesome (was sleeved 15 days ago). I know a lot of this weight loss is just the initial jump-start from basically having no real "food". However, with 17 lbs gone, my pants and such all still fit the same, no change in inches, etc. This is odd to me, as with my band, I lost quite a bit early on, and the sizes melted away. Any thought on what might be happening here? I've started to walk for 30+ minutes a few days a week again (as I did before surgery), which I have decided is good for me, regardless of the "weight". Nonetheless, could there be something going on that I'm not "losing" size or inches, but just pounds? And, should I expect something to "shift" all of a sudden, and is this how things go with the pounds sometimes? Can I magically wake up a size smaller one day? (LOL, I know, I wish.) Anyways, hope you're all well, and I look forward to your insights.:smile::smile:
  2. Great words of advice, and insights, all! Thanks so much. We are all different, and with time, things will fall into place. :001_smile::smile::smile:

    Tell me this lasts!!!

Yes, your long-term information is very helpful and I appreciate your insights! Please come back and tell us more! :laugh0:
  4. Thanks to you both for the insights. I was hoping that it was still "post-surgery bloat" or something. I know things will catch up with themselves, it's just the weirdest thing to lose so many pounds, and no inches. Laura... you'll make it girl! It's hard sometimes, and I've been there, so I know how you feel. Hang in there, and just do your best. That's all you can ask of yourself.
  5. Sounds like all went well. How exciting. I know how scared I was to go out to eat for the first time with my band. Eventually all went well, and I really only had a problem a couple of times. Here's to getting our skinny lives up and runnin!:smile::smile:

    Prilosec vs. Prevacid

I take the Prevacid first thing in the morning (literally, as I get out of bed, I swig some water, take the Prevacid, swig more water). It has been so helpful. I was on the Nexium mups for a week, and it either 1) made me throw up, or, 2) made me nauseas, so I switched to the Prevacid. It's amazing. Glad it's working for you too!:smile::smile:

    Chobani Greek Yogurt

Hey ladies. I also love greek yogurt. Can't wait for mushies phase, I'm all over it. There are also some seriously yummy and HIGH Protein brands that I buy here in Vegas: Products | FAGE Total Authentic Greek Yogurt Voskos Greek Yogurt - Products The Voskos also has some good recipes on their page for the yogurt. The Fage non-fat is 20 grams of protein per serving, and the non-fat Voskos is 24 grams of protein PER serving. Craziness! YUM!:smile::smile::smile:
  8. Great idea! When I do the eliptical, I keep a towel/cloth on my shoulder, but I never thought about tucking it in.

Nexium, Hunger and my 2 cents

Keys... Phew! Glad I saw that you had checked on this. I'm not sure what the side-effects of Nexium are, but I'm guessing that much for any length of time isn't good. Happy to hear you're feeling better!

Nexium, Hunger and my 2 cents

Keys... I'm a little concerned that you are taking the Nexium 3 times a day. Dr. Aceves and Campos told me to take it ONCE per day, in the morning. I was having nausea with the Nexium, so they told me to switch to Prilosec or Prevacid ONCE per day in the morning. Prevacid has done the trick, and all is well. I'm not trying to cause any trouble here, but they told us (me and the others in for our sleeve two weeks ago) to take if for at least 3 MONTHS, only once per day. You might want to email or call Dr. A to clarify? Best to you, and glad it's help now!
  11. Wow, I didn't know they have ZUMBA clothes? Does it help with the class, cause I know I sweat like a mad-woman in that class, and sometimes what I've worn hasn't worked as well as I might have liked. :blushing:
  12. Good advice... I've been having a hard time finding something good... Thanks for the insights, and I agree... water vs milk, big difference!

    Kinda shocked I did this

Hey all! I went through a slump the other day, feeling hungry, feeling overwhelmed... but I think I'm getting past it now, and we all will move on to a better place soon! Hang in there!
  14. Thanks for the tips, Tiff! I've been thinking about Omega's a lot. I took those big horse-capsules of it before surgery, but right now, being 2-ish weeks out, that's not advisable. I did buy, try, gag, and take back a gummy-chewable Omega that was supposed to be for KIDS, and it was the MOST DISGUSTING THING I've ever tasted. I brushed my teeth, tongue, couldn't get the taste out for hours, so I'm hoping to get back to the capsules soon. How long do you think someone might want to wait after surgery to start taking these? I know they are really important and I don't want to fall off the health wagon, because of a lack of vitamins/minerals...
  15. Zumba is a LOT of fun! It's kind of fast paced sometimes, but it's cool because there are no wrong "moves" you're just dancing and trying to keep moving. I really like it. Thai Chi I have tried also, but I'm a bit too fidgety for the pace of that class... still, I would try it.:smile:

    Home from Mexicali

That Sobe Lifewater is a LIFE saver, for sure. Last I saw at Target it was $1 a bottle, a pretty good deal... They also have it at Costco now, and it's pretty cheap, comes in a case of like 12 or something? Anyways, I started drinking it before the surgery, and I like most of them. Some more than others, but like you said, they are a great choice and pretty darn healthy. :biggrin2::smile::smile::smile::smile:
  17. Isn't it kind of odd they have "two sets" of instructions? Makes me wonder if one set is for the band or bypass and the other for the sleeve, or some variation of that? You're right, it seems like all docs do it differently. One major difference I've noticed too, is whether a doc will let you take "pills" early on or not. Some people here are taking pills within days of surgery, some of us as told to wait a month (crush or break in the meantime), and some are even told no pills for 3+ months. Anyways, glad you're doing well... I am patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting next week for mushies!! YA! :biggrin2:
  18. Hi all. I need a little support, words of wisdom, and perhaps inspiration. Today has been my worst day, post-sleeve, thus far. Woke up tired, slept in too late. Could barely drag-butt to get a shower in, never made it to work (flex schedule today, so I could miss, but still, I needed to get some things done). I woke up feeling ravishingly hungry. Drank one of my Protein bullets before the shower, some Water and of course my Prevacid. All I could think about the entire shower was food, food, food. Finally got out the door and took my dog to the doggie-park, walked around there while he ran for about 30 minutes. Starving, starving. Driving home past every single fast food place in the world, and grocery stores, and restaurants, it felt like mental torture. After leaving the park, and on my drive, I felt weak, and tired and starving. Have been trying to drink as much water as possible, and do the protein, but it's starting to make me gag. Seriously, the Stat 64, well... I don't think I can drink another swig. Came home and made some tomato Soup with fat-free milk... and I feel "ok" but not good. I'm just feeling very tired, a bit depressed, and just insanely hungry. I keep counting the days until I can put something other than a liquid in my mouth, and I think I am craving the feeling of biting down on a food, chewing, I don't know. Am I nuts? Having been through all these phases with the band (Clear liquids, full liquids, mushies, and then food), I had a hard time here and there with it... but this time it's just so much worse. I feel hungry all the time. Actually, it might be more accurate to say I feel ravishingly hungry... How can this be? Please tell me once I can actually eat something, things will get better? I feel like I'm never going to eat again. I feel like the stuff I can have right now is making me gag, and is so unpleasant, I'm just subsisting on water, protein bullets (which is also becoming difficult - too sweet), and tomato/milk soup. Ok all... thanks for letting me vent. I just needed that off my chest, but if anyone has some advice, insights or wisdom for me, please share. I feel like crawling in bed and sleeping for the next two+ weeks when I can TRY some food...:scared0:
  19. Hi Oregon, There's no stipulation about the losing stage, it pretty much just says "you can't eat this ever"... and give some "reasons" why. I'm sure once I get past the losing stage, I'll be in your shoes, which will be nice. My plan is to try things in small doses as I go along, and see what works. My doc didn't give these super strict guidelines for the food phase, only to eat good clean Protein foods first, avoid breads and stuff like that... We shall see, I suppose! :biggrin2:

Yep, I met Wayne (from Oregon) and his friend from Washington... and the lady from Canada. Didn't meet the others, or you  Sounds like you're doing GREAT! Way to go! :drool5:

    Tell me this lasts!!!

Ya for you, sleeve twin! You've given me a ray of hope that very soon I may feel this same way... I sure hope so! Today, I am feeling much better than yesterday, less ravishingly hungry, and more in "control" of myself. :001_rolleyes: You're an inspiration to me, as is everyone else here. Thank you for sharing this fantastic development!

    Home from Mexicali

Hey FireFly... We just barely missed each other there in Mexicali. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet, but I'm so happy to hear you're back home and on the sleeved side! Sounds like you're feeling very similar to the way I was feeling at first. Still a bit chilly here and there, but a nice pair of socks seems to help. How is your weightloss so far, and how is your tummy? I hope all is well! Did you meet all the nice people that were there whilst you were there? I met a few that came in the day before you, from Washington State and Canada, nice people. It was a pleasant experience for me, overall. Hope it was for you too! Best! :001_rolleyes::biggrin0:
  24. Thanks, Tiff. I agree with you, it's not the VSG Bible. I just don't want to make any mistakes with my new tummy, and I was super sad to read something like "no corn, ever". Weirdness. Anyways, my doc hasn't given any of these specific restrictions like "no corn" so I guess I'll just go by that, try things when the time comes, and see what happens... :001_rolleyes: And, can I just say that I looked up what a bezoar is... that sounds HORRIBLE. And, it sounds like people who chew on or eat their own hair have serious problems with this... I sure hope this never comes up for any of us! Best and thanks again for your input!:smile::smile:
  25. I so wish I was you right about now... Just choking down the protein isn't working well for me, but I'm doing my best. I'm so excited for a week from now when I can try mushies. YAHOO! If you don't mind me asking, who is your doc? I've read a lot of people say their doc puts them on an accelerated schedule... even the article that was posted on this thread last night was a much more escalated schedule than I'm on... Best to you! :001_rolleyes:
