  1. It's not just an upper-GI/leak test. They do the bloodwork to check your Protein, Iron, etc. Vitamin deficiency is a well-known problem with many bariatric patients, and some people do have problems (I did in the past with vitamin deficiencies, especially Iron). Anyone else want to share their thoughts or their doctors thoughts on this? Best!
  2. Brenda, Do you mean Thursday, May 20? If so, that's (literally) the only weekend I can't do this... as I am in a friends wedding here in town. If you mean the weekend before, that's doable. Let me know. This would be a fun, and great adventure! Are you driving from PA to Reno? Ah!

    ODD Man Out!

I didn't have many problems drinking, after the first week (when I was in the hospital I had a lot of nausea, so that was a problem, but once we fixed that up, all was pretty good). I can now drink as much as I want of anything for the most part, and I'm not even at 3 months yet. It worried me at first too, but now I just consider it normal and part of my journey. If you feel ok, that's great. Here's to your sleeve!
  4. hey tiff... i was cruising through some stuff on youtube and saw you in this video... before and after WLS pics. not sure if you knew about it, but thought you'd want to, regardless... fast forward to 2:42 and that's you, girlie! :)

  5. Do you think you might go in May? If so, let me know what day(s) you might be thinking. Gaby told me that May 15 is the one day a month they do two trips to the airport - for both pickup and then to drop back off that evening. She also gave me some other days I could come down, if I chose to drive... I'm thinking about it. It's only 5-6 hours from my house to Calexico, so it wouldn't be too bad. :001_huh:
  6. That is so true, and it's really nice to be on this journey with others... Because I didn't tell family or friends (minus my brother), having all of you here is my ROCK of support and help! And you are doing great too, Mini!:biggrin0:
  7. Girl, you're right! We're all doing this at our own speed and in our own time. Being that I went through the weightloss and regain once before (with the band), this makes things a little different for me... I "know" in my head to be patient, but I also know what it feels like to be at 150 lbs, so I'm anxious! Can't wait, and truly hoping for 120(ish) Here's to us!
  8. It's recommended for everyone, and it's $150. That includes bloodwork and the upper GI xray. They don't charge for seeing the doc. Many have gone back to Dr. A for this followup, but, a lot of people get it done back home as well... You can email Gaby and she'll give you all the info on it. Hope this helps!
  9. Wondering if any of Dr. Aceves January or February patients will be heading down for the 3(ish) month followup? I am hoping to head down in May, and Gaby told me that they do their one day a month of pickup and drop back off at the airport on May 15. Anyone else down for this? It'd be nice to meet some of my sleeve sisters and brothers, if you'll be there. If not, I would also consider driving down on another day in May, if anyone else might be there at another time? Do let me know, and maybe we can coordinate this together! Best!

    Prickly People

I'm sorry to hear that people have been rude, and I certainly hope that this isn't intentional on anyone's part. I have noticed from time to time that people get a bit jumpy, especially about their choice in how/when/where to have surgery, and by which doctor... Hang in there, and hope whomever is bugging you will chill out.

    5% of 1%?

3-9% of U.S. citizens in the most recent data are either Atheist/agnostic/ Nonbeliever in God. Much higher numbers in this regard worldwide... I'm glad someone started this thread! Here's some great, very thorough academic research on the topic: http://www.pitzer.edu/academics/faculty/zuckerman/Ath-Chap-under-7000.pdf
  12. Thank you for posting this! I've been discouraged, off and on, with my weightloss. I think the mind-game we go through has a lot to do with us losing so fast at first, and the inevitable slowdown. I finally broke below 180 this past week, and that made me happy, but then the next day, I was back up to 180? AH! Today, back to 179. I have to keep telling myself this is a process, and to be patient with myself. I just hope this sluggish losing isn't a long-term trend for me... Best to all!

Bag of Cheetos & a Can of Dr. Pepper OMGoodness!!

You should try the baked ones... they are pretty legit as far as cheese poofs go. They have some good ones at Fresh and Easy Market, and at places like Trader Joe's and WholeFoods. Maybe that way you can still have them, cut the fat and the calories. Love it! :cursing:

Motivation... I need it! Any ideas...

UPDATE: So I've been vascillating back and forth between going to work out, and being a lazy bum. In general, the lazy to workout ratio has started to change. I've worked out two days in a row this week so far (yesterday and today), and will take tomorrow off, and go back again on Thursday. Thanks for your support and ideas, all. I've decided I can give myself a little treat of browsing the shoe store, or ULTA or Old Navy on my way home from the gym... and this seems to help a bit. :cursing:
  15. Hey Brenda! I'm doing pretty well. Still struggling back and forth with hunger, and trying to get everything calmed down in that regard. I just finished my antibiotic treatment for the H.Pylori, so hopefully that will help a bit. Some days I feel famished others I feel nothing the entire day. It is truly odd. Nonetheless, I hope to get where you're at, very soon! best! :)

  16. I went through the same thing at about 7-10 days out, and it did finally pass... It's hard, but hang in there!
  17. Hi all. So I came across this article on Real Age, and found it interesting. Not sure if/how this might apply to Sleevesters, but nonetheless, am wondering what you all think about it. You can check it out here: Lose Weight Faster with This Premeal Habit - Health Tip - realage.com
  18. Hopefully this information might provide you with some insights... Many do not consider "food addition" to be bonafide addiction, but for those of us who have/had the problem, I'd say many would disagree. At any rate, hope this helps: Mental Health: Food Addiction
  19. You're very welcome, I'm happy to help! Please keep us posted on your progress!

  20. I'm actually going to sell my copy. I thumbed through it, read the small sections I needed, and figure since it's so hard to find, selling it might be useful to someone out there... Here's a link to it on Half.com (I listed mine under "like new" to be 100% honest... I did look at it, but no bends, no dogears, etc.): Half.com / Books / The Emotional First + Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery

    advice, please

Yes, you will get through it! The 2nd day/night is indeed the hardest. If you could have stayed until the 3rd day, that might have been better... However, you're home now, so just keep walking and sipping and know that you'll be ok! Also, something that I took with me to Mexico, and have used here and there since returning home is a nice, warm, heatpad. If you have one, try putting it on a low heat, on your tummy, and that will feel great. We're here for you!

    Acid Reducers?

Prevacid is over the counter now, so I would start there. Or, Prilosec would probably do the trick as well. I've been using Prevacid, and have stepped it up to one every 12 hours now. That has helped me feel less "hungry"... as it was the acid. Hope this helps!
  23. Are you taking Multivitamins, Calcium, Iron, and Biotin every day? All of these should help. Also, how much Protein are you getting in per day? Getting enough seems to help as well. Been through this "losing the hair after gastric surgery" twice now, and things are progressing FAR better for me this time, with getting in more protein AND the iron and biotin. I have read Zinc and Magnesium are supposed to be helpful with this too, so I take them as well. (It's quite a pile of pills I down throughout the day.) Best to you! :confused1:
  24. Anyone try these yet? They're like those little packets of Crystal Light or Kool-Aid, but it's a Protein supplement, Designer whey... Would like to know how they taste and if it would be worth it to try them? Thanks! Buy Designer Whey Protein Pak 2GO Orange Mango Online at drugstore.com
  25. You will lose slower, being a "light weight" but that doesn't mean you won't lose it all in the end! I have another friend who went to Dr. Aceves last year, and she was 180 5'1" on the day of surgery. Yes, it took her a little longer to lose all the weight, however, she is now 120 and very happy. It took her about 9 months to get there... I started at 210 and as of today am 183. This is in just 8 weeks. I can't complain! :001_rolleyes:
