  1. Hi Loser... I was told to eat high protein, low fat, low carb. As much as I want, but LOW or no carbs. So, it's not like what you're doing, and I'm sorry you're stuck doing such a strict diet. My BMI is below 40, but barely... and the doc just wanted to be as safe as possible. Even though I know I can "eat" I am still having mental anguish over this stuff... I know, what a wimp I am! I'm buckling down hard-core tomorrow through the weekend. I must say, my current approach is to try to sleep as much as possible this week... can't eat when I'm sleepin! :001_tongue: Anyways, here's to both of us makin it through this week! We can do it, buddy!! :confused1::biggrin0:
  2. Bumping to see if anyone else is coming down to be sleeved January 31-February 4? Would love to catch up with another person who will be there with me at the same time. Best! - :thumbup1: :biggrin0:
  3. Hey Loser! So our sleeve date is almost here! Sounds like you're doing great on your pre-op diet! I start my "week-o-hell" tomorrow morning. Today was my last day of food-sin. I ate whatever the heck I wanted. It wasn't much, but those tater-tots were tasty. At any rate, I have been thinking about you, and will keep you in my thoughts as our shared sleeve date gets closer. I'm heading down to MX on Sunday, Jan 31, and surgery Feb 1. Do you know if you'll have a phone that works down with you? If so, perhaps I can give you a call and check in? Anyways, here's to being sleeve-twins! We're both going to do great, and I'll see you on the sleeved side, brother! :thumbup1: :biggrin0:

    Straws???

I tend to think this is situational, based on the person. I've never had a problem with straws, from day one of my band... A word of advice from my gastrointerologist for taking down enough proteins/liquids was to use a large straw. I've tried this in sampling some of the protein drinks, and such, prior to my sleeve... it seems to make the taste more bareable. I'm not sure why, maybe because nothing is hitting the lips and the front of your tongue? Anyways, if your doc says no straws, I guess I'd stick with that... at least for the early stages. Later, perhaps, you'll be able to use them again?

    Lap-Band Failure Rates

You're very welcome. Sorry to be a Debbie-Downer, but this is all verifiable fact. I support any and all who do what they need to do for themselves; however, I hope we all have the proper information to make the best decision we can, prior to committing to something as serious as surgery. On another note with me... I am going in for a sleeve February 1. I was able to (again) save and save and find a way to do this. I have, unfortunately, gained back almost all of my lost band weight. I am now at 210 lbs. Starting my pre-op diet tomorrow morning, and am counting the days. CANNOT WAIT! Scared, but SO excited. This is what I've been hoping, praying, and waiting for! Best to all here at LBT. I'm also under this same name (Youknowit) over at Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery (VSG) Forum
  6. I will let you know how it is when I get this and try it... I hope we will get a chance to meet when you get to MX, before I head home. If you don't mind, PM me your name and such, and perhaps if nothing else we can chat on the phone whilst both of us are in Mexicali? On another note... Have any of you tried the "chewable" protein supplements? Bariatric Chewable Protein Tablets & pills For A Gastric Bypass Diet
  7. Hi Jaffa, I agree, I "feel" like I have very little to gain from telling people, even those close to me. I have gauged this based on observation and listening to those around me, and their "rude" comments, of the nature that were mentioned in this article. I also found that one of the most interesting notes from this article was that those who tell ANYONE often share this only with someone who has already had WLS, or who is also considering it, which is basically what we're doing here. As for sample size, this being a qualitative study, which also included quantitative data from outside studies of larger samples, 14 people is actually very acceptable. This is more an "initial" collection of data and info, and thus, many more hypothesis could and should be explored in the future, regarding this issue. Real qualitative research is very complex and time consuming, and I believe the researchers did a good job utilizing the proper methods in this study. Ok, can you tell I've done this type of research before? Sadly, I could talk about this "boring" stuff for days and days! :wink0::wink0: I'm glad you guys thought this was interesting... I really think there is a ton of good research, data, and information being published over at Bariatric Times, so hopefully more will check it out. best to all! :biggrin0::smile::thumbup1:
  8. Hey, glad you found the bullets. They aren't the best tasting thing in the world, but it's a very small amount, so should be something you can add to Water... Has anyone heard of or tried these products... they have a "flavorless" one, which, if it is truly flavorless, would be AWESOME! Thinking of buying it to see how it goes, but would really like some feedback... Bariatric Advantage - liquid Proteins - Pro-Stat64 Bariatric Advantage - Liquid Proteins - Proteinex - 18g
  9. You can get the Isopure at CVS, and to make it taste better, try refrigerating it. This somehow has cut down on the weird taste for me (been trying these out). In fact, the only thing about the Grape Isopure that bugs me at this point is the aftertaste, but it's very tolerable. If you have a WalMart near by, you might want to try this stuff... it's a bit sweet, so what I'm trying with this is that I dump out about 2-3 oz of my Water bottle, add this... it cuts the taste, and you're getting in the protein: Walmart.com: Body Fortress 26 G Protein Fruit Punch Flavored Drink Super Whey Protein Shot Ultimate Recovery Fuel 2.9 fl oz, 2pk: Diet & Nutrition Hope this helps. I'm so excited to hear your made it through 100% and are back home in your own bed! :thumbup1:
  10. Cool! Unfortunately, I'll be leaving (gone) as you're arriving. Sorry we won't meet. Best of luck!
  11. Am I going to be all alone down there in Mexicali or what? Sure hope not... Anyone else coming done Jan 31-Feb 4? Cheers!
  12. Glad to hear you both made it through safe and sound! Keep us posted... how are you feeling today? Doing the breathing exercise? Here's to your sleeve!

    Why? ? ?

I don't want to sound like a nosey bi***, but perhaps you are getting poor legal advice, Alex? C&D letters are only of value, legally (and otherwise), when what someone is doing is indeed defamatory, or intentionally malicious. If this is the case, I totally support your upholding the legality of the C&D, however, let us also not forget that a defensable C&D across international borders is generally a bark with no bite... I would encourage you to check out some information at this website, which is a joint clearinghouse project between the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Harvard, Berkeley, and a number of other law schools here in the US. They focus on first amendment rights, responsibilities, and the venue of online posting, discussion, etc. Chilling Effects Clearinghouse

    Why? ? ?

I would say to all who are reading that LIBEL can ONLY be proven when something someone says is untrue or unsubstantiated. Lawsuits for stating the truth... especially across an international border... that's a BIG joke. And so, if I "disappear" from here as well, it's been nice knowing you all! xxoo :001_tongue:

Saw what you posted the day of your surgery, about the liquid diet and being scared... I start my pre-op diet this Sunday, I'm scared and excited. Here's hoping my surgery is as successful as yours! You look amazing! Great work. :001_tongue:

    Weary from Dieting

Tracy - I can TOTALLY relate to what you said... I too have lost and gained. I lost 80 lbs with my band, I was 20 lbs away from goal when it went caput. I must say, for the most part, I never "dieted" with my band, which spoiled me... once I lost it, I went right back up... to over 200. I know from years of Weight Watchers, South Beach, YOU! on a Diet, and all that jazz, that I can do that if I need it. And, without the gnawing hunger buzzing in my head all the time, I think the sleeve will be like the band for me, a bite here, a bite there... the restrictive nature of the sleeve (as with the band) will really work for me. Or at least, that's my true and sincere hope and prayer for us all! We can do this, and I can't wait to get started! :001_tongue:
