    Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve

Yeah, I get the " you re not that fat"" comment all the time.....
  6. The following is a email I sent my 34 employees yesterday, my surgery is this Friday. the response below that is from one of our patients and a good friend who is head of a department at a nearby university. I just want to show other options..... About 20 months ago I wasn’t feeling very well. I had an upcoming physical and after blood work Dr. Foreman informed us I had crossed the line into the early stages of type 2 diabetes. He prescribed metformin , diet and exercise. I took that to heart and at a checkup 4 months later was told I was doing great and to keep it up. Unfortunately I didn't. .This past June my A1C had gone up some and he surprised me by suggesting weight loss surgery. He explained that weight loss surgery patients with co morbidities were having surgeries with lower BMIs and resolving many of their co morbidities. Flo & I spent the summer researching and meeting with an excellent surgeon. After having a lot of test BC/BS cleared me for the surgery and I am scheduled for surgery this Friday am. My primary objective post-surgery is the complete resolution of my diabetes. Through our research and discussions with Dr Paul Enoch, we have decided upon a gastric sleeve surgery with a new component that’s fairly new. In fact, I am included in a study that only seven surgeons nationally have been asked to participate. The procedure itself has been performed in Spain for three years, and in the States for one. Below I will include some information about the procedure that you may find interesting. I have always been an open person. You can ask me anything and not offend me. So I am approaching weight loss surgery ( WLS ) the same. We have told everyone in our lives about it and I hope that this may have some positive impact somewhere. The surgery will be a huge change, but it’s not a magic bullet. I will have major diet and lifestyle changes but most importantly I hope to be diabetes free very quickly. Surgery is Friday am at Rex, I should be in just overnight and home a few days! One response from a friend.... The message from Steve sets a new standard for how to disclose honest and accurate information to one's family and colleagues and to invite further discussion as a means of self education. It is so well done!

    Any November Sleevers?

Day 9 of 14 pre op. Feel ok but do have sinking spells of weakness but it passes. I don't think there is any way I could exercise while consuming only 800 calories a day. 5 more days!

    Any November Sleevers?

Good luck, your 5 days ahead of me. Keep in touch and let me know how it goes!
  10. Alex, I couldn't agree more with what you posted! Well said!! I've told everyone to point I'm a little tired of the story. Last night my wife went to a party, I'm I week from surgery and didn't want the temptations so I stayed in and watched football. With my permission she announced to everyone what. My plans and reasons are. All were supportive. Tomorrow I plan to email all my employees about my health and surgery.
  11. My straw was being diagnosed with diabetes . I spent a year trying diet and exercise and metformin to control. Worked for a while but I know from observation that it's a long road and a terrible disease. I'm having my surgery to rid myself of diabetes, the weight loss is less important. I'm having a version of the sleeve that resolves diabetes 95% of the time.

    Pre op diet slips

Great story, I guess my worst fear is that my liver won't have shrunk enough. I've lost 11 lbs in the first week of pre op. One more week to go.
  13. I'm on day 7 of my 14 day liquid pre op and had my first slip today. I ate a sasuage, egg and cheese muffin from a batch I made for the kids earlier. I'm back on the horse and alls ok. I have lost 11 lbs in a week but I am feeling guilty. Anyone want to share your slips? None of us is perfect......

    Pre op diet slips

Lol....no worries, not beating myself up. I'm happy, cause surgery is a week away. No way I would call and confess a slip!

    Any November Sleevers?

    Any November Sleevers?

I love reading the posts from people just back from surgery.....sore yet happy. I can't wait for the 14th to get here........
  19. I know everyone has different situations and you can't dump all the naysayers. It was just a response to all the comment in this thread I have read. Just my feelings.....
  20. Mojo56

    FRUSTRATED ????

Stay strong, it's a long road with bumps but it will be worth it
  21. Mojo56

    What would you do?

Do it! I'm having mine Nov 14th. If you postpone you will still be doing the pre op diet during holidays. Better to get it done
  22. I've read a lot of the comments on this topic and I'm amazed. A lot of you have people in their lives that you feel would make negative comments if you were open about your surgery. I'm not sure who these people are.....but dump them! If someone can't see the sense of WLS and how it will positively effect your health then the hell with them. I ve told everyone about my surgery and the details if they wanted to hear and only one asshole has said " couldn't you just diet and exercise?" and I pay him no attention. I think in life it's important to surround yourself with good, loving and supportive people. I totally get that not everyone comes to the same decision about this issue but perhaps choosing to not express your joy about your upcoming life saving surgery might tell you something about the people around you, the importance you place on their words and how you feel about yourself. For me, the worst part is repeating my story over and over. I apologize if this rant offends anyone but I had to say it!

All good info, thanks. Had my last appointment with doc before surgery. Picked up my liquid pre op, doing well so far and looking forward to the 14th

    Any November Sleevers?

Day 4 of the liquid pre op and it's going pretty well. Only had a spoonful of the chili I made for the family on Saturday. No other slip ups. It's amazing how I don't feel hungry, oh , I want foods..but I'm not really hungry. Tough stuff considering I'm the cook for our family and they still gotta eat. I just made a pot of from scratch spaghetti for tonight. I'm staying with the diet. I've loss 8 lbs since Friday and my Liver feels smaller.......lol
